There was a player at Geelong a while back called Mumford, they really liked him and had him pegged as having a good future with them. Sydney thought he would be good for them, made him an offer Geelong couldn't match and who would have guessed, he ended up at Sydney. I hope we are into Bolton & anyone else that could help us improve. No point adding more nqr's...

List changes who do we cut, trade or go after.

I would add May to that list, just needs to spend more time on the park. He added real stability to the back half when he was there. -

Not sure where to put this so here is as good as any place. Heard King yesterday put big wraps on Sparrow as a mid... I don't think he would have seen much if any of him so the wraps must be coming from someone he rates to make that call. Hard at it and explosive pace away are King's comments. Personally I've been concerned that he didn't get a lot of ball at Casey when playing as a mid. Have though he might make it as Jetta's replacement. I guess we wait and see. I hope King is right on this occasion. -
Small forwards - what are our trading and draft options?
rjay replied to Pates's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would lock in Fritsch now as our 3rd tall...Trac rotating more in the mids but also spending quality time forward. The 1st 2 and at least one good small are a problem. Tmac is a number 2 man...as for the number one man there really is no one available for trade unless Cameron falls out so that leaves Weid and he really must step up next season. Need to trade in a small, Tiges have the most so at least one should be gettable.... -
Yep, not a fan either but to this day no one has proven that it was his decision to take Toumpas over Wines. We can blame him for many things but this one maybe not despite the conventional wisdom on this site. It may well have been Viney that made the call for all we know, Jack seemed to be a Toumpas fan.

No rising star nom??? He was ok, played a role, obviously a coach favourite...not brilliant. -

No going to happen 'norm'... We need to trade in. -
They really don't anymore...they did, but not now.

I don't care where he's from, so long as he can coach. I haven't noticed a lot of Hawthorn people in their FD and it hasn't hurt them. The idea of needing a Melbourne person is a croc...

...but he is just repeating what many of us on here have been saying. At least it seem he can read..

No one at the club has said he is a mentor and I doubt very much that this is his role. He is a senior assistant though and we need that particularly with Macca leaving. The coaching division is a bit young with the exception of Rawlings. I would expect a few more to shake out yet...

For what it's worth 'SWYL', I don't think Richo will ever coach a senior team again in his own right. It's not what he's been brought in to do. He has a history with Burgess at Port and it was a very positive one. I would bet that's why he's come on board at Melbourne. He's a top notch backroom boy and that's what he's here to do, not to be a backstop if Goodwin doesn't work out. If Goody doesn't work out I think it would be Clarkson/Simpson or bust...

Brayshaw can't or won't play wing, Jordon is a great prospect but I wouldn't back in any of the others you've named. Baker can't find the pill, Dunkley still a bit early to tell without a preseason, JKH depth at best, Stretch VFL level/depth, Hunt time to move on, Kolo may not ever get on the park, Sparrow more likely to make it as Jetta's replacement if he is to make it at all, Wagner C to slow in his decisions and reactions again VLF/depth... Langdon is a must get along with at lest one small forward and then who ever we pick up in the draft. If Brayshaw moves on then it opens up more opportunities to improve the list balance...

We've had 2 for a while now 'SWYL', remember Macca was a senior coach and Rawlings has had senior experience as a caretaker. I think the crucial ingredient to success is that Goodwin is prepared to listen. If he's not we could get all the best, most experienced assistants in the business and it would amount to nothing.
-
If Brayshaw is part of the Langdon deal I would want Cerra in the mix...I reckon he has a lot of upside and Lyon hasn't helped his development to date.

Well, there's no doubt now that the writing was on the wall early. We didn't recover from last years prelim, with the JLT games signalling this before the Port game. 4 games set the trend. I just didn't think the drop off would be this bad. If I look back at the original post a lot was right, some not so. If I take out the Frost delist call most looks to have held for the season. Max stood up, Oliver picked up possessions but really need a rocket and to get his head out of his a...Tommy Mac drop off, Trac showed he was a good player, maybe not the star we want be was solid. Hibberd a shadow... Outside run was always going to be the issue and still is...no small forwards.
-
Like the Pies who were going to play Howe forward where we should have played him. He's playing back, where we played him...apparently a genius move by Buckley. Trac will play where it best suits us/them, there are no guaranteed positions in football and his manager know that.
-
What gives me hope is that Goody finally admitted we got it wrong this year. That recognition is crucial and how we go about fixing it will see us bounce back in 2020. ...but the first step is always admitting you got it wrong.
-
Absolutely 'Ethan'... It's crazy what some are posting on here about wow factor and his St Kilda record. He's here as an assistant and he's one of the best in the business. Very highly regarded. What a great get...
-
Richo is a great get...I had hoped we would pick him up when the Saints were making life hard for him. Forget his senior record, not all coaches excel in the senior role. Richo is a very, very highly regarded assistant. For the new sayers on here, you seriously have no idea...

Agree 'Diamond'. It's really effected our depth, particularly this season with the added injuries.

Dees to meet with AFL Commission after disastrous 2019
rjay replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
They can't of been approved yet 'Nev'... In the end it's a commission decision and they don't meet until after the season. They haven't always gone along and rubber stamped Gill's wishes either. Not saying they won't get it, just that it hasn't been approved. -
Like St Kilda did with McEvoy... Stupid move and left them devoid of leadership and ruck talent.
