still defending the cale Morton recruitment no doubt...

I understand that the coach has to sell hope but how would we all feel if at the start of the season neeld had been brutally honest. if he said he'd walked in and found a club that was at joke level and nothing less than a total rebuild from scratch and at least two years of pain was required. would people have more respect for him? I guess it still doesn't explain effort...

Playing devils advocate : MFC Head recruiter

Hogan is a glaring beacon of hope and will be a huge draw for sponsors and new supporters. We need him and viney over all else. -
Bring back njr!! Mend the bad blood.

Some fans may have given up hope, but players haven't

It does sound like Dawes is worried about neeld getting the sack desperation is required. Like their lives depend on every moment. -
Not every good player is a good coach - Watson, voss, etc. I'd go ratten in a heart beat.

very astute observation. Its utterly ridiculous to come in to a young side and try to get them to adopt the latest game plan of one of the good sides at the time because you don't have the cattle but also because game plans adapt and are beaten . You are better off making your own to suit the circumstances. remember that under daniher the arrival if a young and super quick Aaron Davey basically invented forward pressure and daniher came up with some other ideas like the mid huddle then spread during kick outs, etc. a good coach doesn't copy they create and adapt.

Time to call a Spade a Spade or state the Bleeding Obvious

Lol. When you watch those foity flashbacks of the daniher and northey days and even the early bailey days we have crumbled.... -
And as a reminder - only three clubs have won more premierships than us....

Kick it to neitz!!!

Sorry won not won't - auto correct!

Highlights for me were just about every game of the 2004 season watching Scott Thompson carve it up time and time again in the midfield. Yze was always kicking goals from outrageous positions. I think big al Nicholson was still around. one particular memory I enjoyed was a game in 2004 against Carlton where we won by over 100 points of I remember. but other than 87 and 88 plus our side in 2000 the other year and season I loved as when we beat the saints in 2006 qualifying final after they got ahead at quarter time - grant Thomas's last game as coach. They said we won't the Victorian grand final that night finishing higher than any other Victorian side. cam Bruce had some great seasons as well. when you watch the daniher or northey years you realize just how shameful we are now. bring back Nathan Carroll - sorry I jest - but Scott Thompson leaving was the first step in our decline. They changed the rules on white and turncoat jolly left. bailey and neeld are way behind.

INTO DARKNESS: THE BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS
Norm Smith's Curse replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Our culture is poisoned. -
First thing you need to do is some how change the culture - a culture tarnished by the sacking of stalwart captain James MacDonald - a culture tarnished by over tanking - a culture tarnished by the poor treatment of longterm players like Robbo and Cameron Bruce - a culture that allowed players like Brock McClean and Tom Scully to leave with little more than a whimper - a culture where passed players and officials lined up to dob in people at the club administration for tanking. A culture where losing is ok. A culture where kids are your best leaders. the club is truly poisoned. A total clean out is the only way.

Cull as many players as possible
Norm Smith's Curse replied to Striker475's topic in Melbourne Demons
sack everybody! Even get employers around Victoria to sack all their employees that support the club. hang on, even sack family members of those that support the dees. haha. sorry -
Under Daniher we didnt sack out captain (James McDonald) or shaft Robbo and Bruce. Under Daniher even in 2006 we still had a half decent list although there were some obviously poor recruiting decisions even make then (or as far back as Luke Nolan or what ever his name was - but they can happen to anyone). Under Daniher we didnt tank so overtly that it was obvious to everyone and it ended in our brand getting tarnished just to get a pick that wanted out of the club as soon as he could. Things were a little dicey in the last years of the Daniher tenure but things went to joke territory afterwards and Im yet to see anything to indicate that its changed...
-
Ah better times. The Daniher years were great. I often wonder whether we ever had a chance of getting Ross Lyon and where we would be right now if we had moved harder on that?? Maybe im just dreaming

Who should be the new football manager?
Norm Smith's Curse replied to rjay's topic in Melbourne Demons
Balme would never come back to MFC. Still the only coach Ive ever seen walk out at three quarter time. -
I thought Grant was being negative and outlandish. I thought the same of King when he said similar. I defended neeld despite strange decisions - pushing Moloney out; making a kid a captain; poor performances, low morale/confidence. I thought that at least with a preseason and some recruiting tweeks we will get to see what Neeld can do and I think all anyione wanted to see was effort. Instead we see a list of players playing for themselves, hoping they arent the one that looks the worst in the highlight reel.
-
Here's an idea - sack the coach and then have a lottery on thursday night to allow a member to coach for a game.
-
Peter Jackson has my vote of confidence. Neeld had it but lost it. Neil Craig is in charge of sports performance... I rate him highly so just what is the problem down there?
