  1. Half our team can't hit the side of a barn. We need more than him.
  2. I heard that on KBs show too and if teammates are upset about it, they are kidding themselves. He has (with Dusty) been their best performer this year by so far that he can decide to come back whenever he likes!! It's not compromised his performance so what's the issue? It's the other spuds on that team that should be taking a good look at themselves. And whilst I wouldn't be surprised if Rance left, I just can't see him wanting to come to us. He'll want someone who can contend right now - I reckon it will be the Eagles or nowhere.
  3. Staggered by this change. Surely they have to give Neal-Bullen an extended run? If VdB had been in great form then I'd understand it but he was lucky to be in the side in the first place!
  4. Our goalkicking from set shots has been pretty good this year but it cruelled us on the weekend - those misses from 40 out directly in front in the 3rd (Watts, Stretch) were critical, and Jack Viney's kick from 40m that missed everything in the 2nd quarter was horrid. If Tommy Mac had done that there would have been hell to pay on Demonland!!!
  5. I agree with this but not only do we overuse it, we handball to players feet constantly! Quite often the handball is on if the target is hit but like our kicking out of the backline, too often it's not!!
  6. I think Hibberd is very likely to come to us, and 2nd rounder would get it done. I don't think any of the Bummers players are going to become DFAs. As for Prestia, I would have loved him a year or two ago but I think we have enough inside mids - he's a good player but I don't think we should be selling the farm to get him. We need some outside class and poise. Will be watching O'Meara's last 6 games with interest. He would light us up if fit.
  7. Funnily enough, I was having coffee with a good friend of mine todaywho is a Bomber fan, and he actually said the same thing....rates Hibberd higher than Melksham and reckons we paid slight overs, said that it made sense that we paid slight unders for Hibberd. I know, an Essendon fan that is reasonable, hard to believe
  8. Hopefully Hunt continues this form, in which case he'll get a nomination soon enough - but it has to be Mills this week, he was great and has been all year.
  9. Very confident he'll stay. He's just a fantastic footballer...another 12 marks last night in greasy conditions. What I like about him most is his footy smarts and his consistency. Rarely kicks a bag but you always know he's going to kick 2-3 goals and take 8-12 marks every week. We keep forgetting how young he is for a KPP.
  10. Very happy with the win....this was a big danger game and off a 6 day break against a team that had 15 days, I thought we showed resilience in the last half after they got on top halfway through the third. I'm certainly not going to try and get this one on "Name a Game" but there were some really positive signs...they led 12 to 6 quarter and before you knew it we were up 56 to 13, so to kick 7 on the trot was very pleasing. We completely dominated the first 2 and half quarters. Big game next week against the Saints, who are 4-5 goals better at Etihad. At least we get an 8 day break. and it wasn't a bruising encounter so I don't think we can use the "we played in Darwin" card if we lose this week. I just hope we decide to man up that blonde centre half forward for St Kilda this time....
  11. This game has trouble written all over it. Six day break, never won a premiership season match in NT (that I can recall anyway!), haven't beaten the Dockers in eons (and in fact, haven't got close in recent times), they have just had the bye...and if it's humid and greasy like it usually is up there, it will play right into the hands of Freo's pressure and tackling game. We are a much improved side of course, and they have gone the other way with plenty of injuries so just hoping that a strong attitude and effort enables our talent to shine through. But if you were to tip an upset this round, this would be the one!
  12. Great topic to raise. In three of our last four games, the opposition have had season high tackle counts against us - Hawthorn had over 100, Swans a game record 155, and Adelaide I think got to the century this week. You could argue that the wet conditions played a part in the Hawks and Swans games, but I've got no doubt that the no 1 instruction from opposition coaches is to put extreme pressure on us at the contest, because even though we'll often get first hands we tend to handball to teammates a metre or so away who are immediately swamped, and they'll handball again to someone in close. Someone said to me we should have won on Sunday because we had 34 more disposals but the only reason we had more was because of all the ring-a-ring-a-rosy handballs trying to get out of trouble. Watch the Dogs and Crows - they do whatever they can to handball long and out of the contest (often virtually throwing it, as we saw in our own game v the Dogs) because they know they've got guys on the outside who are generally quick and can explode away. We don't have that yet....it's why someone like an O'Meara would be fantastic for us. Essentially, our game style can be really exciting when it gets going but it invites pressure, and the good teams make their tackles stick. Expect Freo to be all over us this week - Ross the boss described us as a "high handball" team on the couch last night so they will love the greasy conditions in Darwin which should help amplify their pressure and tackling.
  13. More to the point, anyone who has watched us closely this year will understand that Hibberd and Hurley are EXACTLY the two players that we need to help push this team forward. We are crying out for run, polish and smart decision making off half-back - that's one of the reasons why Hunt stands out like dog's b@lls in our team with his electrifying pace. T Mac and Frost do some exciting things with their athleticism but their countless decision making brain fades suck the air out of the team (and the supporters!). Hurley and Hibberd are both tough as nails and so much more composed. If we can get them (and I'm far more confident on Hibberd than Hurley), will make a massive difference next year, particularly with Melksham and Salem as other options in the back half next year.
  14. No interest in Rockliff. We've got enough inside bulls, and his outside game is average at best. I'd rather an O'Meara type (assuming he gets through his upcoming games returning from that knee injury).
  15. It's pretty clear when you watch him and when you listen to him that McClure has an enormous opinion of himself. Ridiculously so for someone who has made a career out of rumour mongering
  16. Having lived OS during 2012 - 2014 I don't know much about Hibberd, but a Bomber mate of mine reckons he is a very good player, a beautiful kick who plays taller than his 187cm. Rates him highly, and definitely better than Milkshake.
  17. I think you nailed it Jhorse. He's alot tougher than some give him credit for....I was in Alice Springs right in front of where he made that great run down chase of Karl Amon on the wing. A few mins later he did another one in the goal square which saved a certain goal. He's one who is developing and getting better right before our eyes and realises that if he defends well, his other natural attributes will come into play. Juzzk1d is also right about releasing the handball more effectively, I think he'll get better at that and another pre-season to give him more strength in the tackle will do him wonders.
  18. Garlett's efforts were better than "a fair few others". Highly debatable. Who else was worse than Garlett on the weekend? Hogan was beaten by Frawley but I didn't think it was effort, I thought he struggled to know where to be position wise in the wet conditions....didn't play in front enough. But, unlike Garlett, it was one of his rare poor games over the last 6 weeks. But hey, if you want to drop Hogan ahead of Garlett, then good luck to you.
  19. Anyone who thinks Jeffy's "effort" last week was acceptable didn't watch the game. And I'm not talking about the incident that has been magnified this week. He only chased now and again, fumbled regularly and didn't put his body behind the ball enough when it was on the ground. I went with a friend who doesn't barrack for either Hawthorn or Melbourne and he was scathing of Garlett's effort, couldn't believe how lazy he was. His only good games in the past 6 weeks have been when we've played the witches hats of Gold Coast and Brisbane, and for a senior player, that's not good enough.
  20. I was staggered when I saw that vision....he got 2 down to 1, same as Hawkins got for a love tap! Unbelievable. That was an elbow to the jaw by Ceglar, and Hogan was off the ground for about 5 minutes. Should be out for at least two, possibly 3.
  21. - Tyson was exceptional. Clearly BOG at 3/4 time until he ran out of puff. - Bernie Vince, thank you. We've been bullied by these pr**cks for 10 years but he wouldn't stand for it today. Beat Mitchell comfortably and dumped him and belted him to the ground every time he could. So nice to see the Hawk players get chirpy at him; he rattled them. - Their class, bigger bodies and nous won out in the last quarter...example being Breust v Wagner in the forward pocket when it was a point the difference. Wagner just had to clatter Breust and knock that ball out of play but let him keep it in, leading to a goal to the head ducking first gamer - Cyril is a freak. That crumbing goal at the start of the 2nd quarter was magical, took a super grab in the last and his tackling was superb. Garlett on the other hand.... - Birchall is a very smart footballer. Zones off to the right spots to intercept and always uses it well. - If Trac spotted Trengove in acres of space about 30m out from goal when we were 7 points down in the last instead of kicking to Dawes in the pocket, it would have been game on. Can you imagine the lift it would have given them if Trenners goes back and nails it from 30m out with 8 mins to play? - Speaking of Dawes, he dropped a couple he should have taken but also had a couple where his arms were held that were clearly frees...the most costly one being the one in the last. I thought overall he was ok, his tackling is good and he'll be better for the run. - Maxy tried hard, some of his taps to Tyson were superb but just couldn't clunk any marks today in the wet conditions. - Hogan also tried hard but is dropping a couple every week that you'd normally expect him to guzzle...first quarter an example when he dropped that chest mark having done all the hard work. - Harmes and Kent should have been dropped. Kent was ok today without being great but Harmes needs a spell. - TMac had a better second half but at times he's just not physical enough in his spoiling attempts,...and that "effort" in the 3rd quarter when he just had to take the ball out on the Members wing instead of overrunning it was terrible. I just wonder how much that shoulder is bothering him. Oscar was pretty good today but will still have his moments as a young player - Liked Frost in the backline. Like others, needs to improve decision making at times. - Hunt and Wagner were good for the most part, been very handy additions and will only get better. Wagner is generally pretty composed with the footy. - We need more pace! - Geez I hate Gunston. - So sick of them whining about injuries. Roughy is a big loss, as is Hodge but other than that who else do they have out of note? Their guns never seem to miss at finals time so quit whingeing, you're not the only team who has injuries and plenty of others have more than you!
  22. There seems to be alot of hate for the defenders here and I get that....zoning off Riewoldt is asking for trouble in my book and I was staggered how long it took to lock down on him. But I think we're letting our midfielders get off scott free for the lack of pressure they applied. It's not T Mac, Jetta and Dunn's fault that there are four Saints streaming downfield by themselves....it's because our mids either haven't applied enough pressure or won't run back the other way Nate Jones got 31 touches today but laid one solitary tackle. Jack Steven had 25 touches and 11 tackles! Their frontal pressure when we got it in the backline was exceptional and we didn't handle it at all. When they got it we weren't prepared to run back with them. It just felt like after the first 5 mins we thought we were going to have a field day and had too many blokes running ahead of the ball. Saints have plenty of talent...I'd love to have a few of their lightning outside runners and small men, their speed killed us.
  23. Come on guys, don't fall for the media click bait headline. He said if his body language continues to be that drastic for the next couple of weeks they should drop him, he didn't say drop him this week. Lloyd's probably gone a bit far to make his point but it's a decent one....we don't want a Richo Mark II on our hands.
