  1. Get on You Tube and watch the "SANFL 2012 Round 19 Goal of the Day - Ben Kennedy". Yes the pace, and the long thumping kick from 50.
  2. Kevin Sheehan says: “Left-footed small forward/midfielder with explosive pace and rare agility. Prolific ball winner who excels at stoppages and is extremely dangerous around goals with set shots or snaps. In 2011 won All-Australian NAB AFL Under 18 Championship honours as a bottom-aged player and debuted at senior level. Backed it up this year with All-Australian honours, averaging 26.2 disposals.” A potential for pick 4 (though Toumpas a definite and Wines & Mayes may be ahead) A certainty if he is available and we still have pick 13. Think a better version of Brent Harvey.
  3. Its a win win - Morton for Stevens. Neither are getting a game, and other more. Mrton would be better in the free space of Subiaco, and Stevens would welcome the warrior style of Neeld.
  4. Josh Toy wants out of the Suns. Hopefully Josh Caddy also says his coming back to Victoria. Caddy is our focus. 20yo, strong, long kick, and physically ready to go.
  5. Josh Caddy HAS to be a prime target for us. Get the deal done.
  6. Adam Cockie would be a certainty for a return to an AFL list in 2013, either as a rookie or a listed player. I hear Tigers are interested in him.
  7. yes, its that time where Melbourne's contribution to Casey goes from 14-15 players to 10 to 9 to 8. By the end there will be only 3-4 MFC listed players in Caseys finals. Straight sets for the 3 year running !! 39 listed+ 7 rookies = 46 22 Demons 1 reserve - Magner 5 (??) - Nicholson ... rested. Martin ... rested. Jamar ... rested, Evans ... rested (played last week and finsihed the game). Mystery illness - Leigh Williams. 2 Lawrence and Jurrah - leave passes. 8 Season ending injuries- Gawn, Bartram, Clark, Davey, Taggert, Bennell, Morton, Petterd = 8 to Casey Imagine us having a standalone team (we have David Misson as the master ???????????)
  8. If only West Coast has taken Morton ... I think our preferred next pick was Rhys Palmer.
  9. prefer #3 Toumpas #4 Wines / Mayes #13 Gartlett #25 Viney. Mayes has the class. Wines the grunt. Toumpas is all class and pace. Gartlett is like a new Cyril Riolo. Viney is a engine.
  10. Correct Bate will not be traded ... delisting more likely
  11. Toy is worth a look at ... Josh Toy in exchange for Petterd and pick #45 (fair deal ??)
  12. Yes the AFL (oops, Suns and Giants) will noiminate Viney to "force" us to use pick 3. Likely #3 Viney, #4 Toumpas #13 Jono O'Rourke #25 Jason Pongracic (prefer Viney as 2nd round f/son choice ... #3 Toumpas #4 Wines/Mayes #13 Gartlett #25 Viney)
  13. Great bloke Brad Miller. on field, gave his best and was a good footballer, who played a role down back or fwd off field, he always had time to say Hi and was good with the kids at clinics and family days I hope he remembers Melbourne FC for the mates, supporters and the good times on the field, and not the "ending" being delisted.
  14. Hmmm - hopefully there is more chapters in the Red & blue for Liam.
  15. and we signed Jamar to a 3-yr deal. Chapman as a free agent, at $300-$350k over 2yrs is a good option. He showed agst the Hawks that he has the toughness, skills and ability to be at top of the game. We missed him in 1999 draft. Culture, and inspiring to the young group. Can you imagine Chappy leading Viney, Jonesy, Jordie Mck etc into battle
  16. agree. We have tall defender tyoes a plenty. Need mids, small fwd & power fwd in our trade window
  17. Strategy: 1. need mids -> Free agent: Paul Chapman (toughness, culture, ... offer a 2-yr deal for $350k per annum) Trade options in: Josh Caddy (Suns), Koby Stevens (Eagles) AFL draft: J Viney (given), Toumpas, Mayes, Wines, Kennedy, O'Rourke 2. need small fwds: Trade options: Cruize Gartlett (kangas ) ... was on the fringe but they recently brought him into the seniors and he has done very well so trade unlikely now AFL draft: Dayle Gartlett (daylight) ... 3. need another power fwd Free agent:Travis Cloke (daylight ...) Afl draft: Kristian Jaksch, Mason Shaw 4. need skillful small defenders ... kick ins & on small fwds Trade options: Taylor Duryea (Hawks), Josh Toy (Suns) Afl draft: Tom Carter (WA)
  18. Agreed. Kristian Jaksch will be a very good player. But for me its mids all the way in 2012 draft.
  19. Clinton Young trained at the Demons after 2005 season (u/18's) and then went to Hawks rookie list (!!!)
  20. Ouch, I did not know that we cannot trade the "Compensation picks". Is that right?? Here is a good bio on Josh Caddy to date (online search) Josh Caddy is one of the rising Suns in the AFL and will be one of the hottest properties going during trade month (formerly trade week) if he requests a trade home to Victoria as he did last year. Having captained the Northern Knights in the TAC Cup, Caddy was drafted by Gold Coast at pick 7 in the AFL draft of 2010. He is still in the early stages of development but is already regarded as one of Gold Coast’s most valuable players going forward. In 2011, the Suns’ inaugural season, Caddy struggled with a navicular bone injury and only managed to play the last two games of the season – the first against Melbourne where got ten disposals in a thirty point loss, and the second against Hawthorn where he garnered sixteen disposals and kicked two goals in a nine point loss. With the Suns not making the finals, Caddy returned home to Victoria to visit his father who was suffering from a heart condition, and informed the Suns’ management that he wished to be traded to Essendon after just one year up north. The Bombers offered pick 19 and a player (reported to have been Cale Hooker) for Caddy hoping that Gold Coast would accept their offer on the grounds of compassion, but the Dons instead saw the Suns emphatically knock their offer back. Several other Victorian clubs were interested in recruiting Caddy, but the midfielder refused to talk to any other club. This led to many questioning how serious Caddy really was to return home to look after his dad if the only club he was willing to talk to was Essendon, and by the end of trade week, no trade occurred and the man who likens himself to Dustin Martin was stuck with the Suns for another year. After an impressive pre-season and solid NAB Cup, Caddy was named in the starting line-up for the Suns in round 1 and has played every game so far this season. The hard in-and-under midfielder has been used in as a rover by the Suns, and the 19 year old has begun to display the skills he showed when finishing first in the clean hands challenge at the 2010 draft camp. He can also take a good contested mark and is not afraid to take the game on. In round 2 against St Kilda he finished with eight tackles, whilst in round 4 against the Bombers, he kicked a 60 metre goal on the run in a match the Suns nearly won. He can find the ball, as seen by his 27 disposals against the Bulldogs in round 8, although is not being utilised by the Suns as the type of player who accumulates numerous uncontested possessions. Against Geelong in round 15 he pushed forward more and kicked three goals in a fourteen point loss. Despite having played sixteen matches, Caddy is yet to have played in a winning side. In keeping with the rules the AFL established for them, Gold Coast must have reduced their senior playing list from 46 players to 42 by the third and final list lodgement this year on November 29. On top of the four players they already have to cut to reduce their numbers at the end of this season, the Suns have to cut at least another three players to be allowed to participate in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft, and another player to allow for the pre-listed Jaeger O’Meara to move on to the senior list. If they wish to upgrade any of their four rookies then even more players must be cut. If the Suns wanted to trade to bring anyone to Metricon Stadium or have more than three picks in the draft, further cuts would be required. As it currently sits the Suns have 27 players contracted beyond this season including Ablett, Rischitelli, Bennell and Swallow. Despite looking to clear room, the Suns are still very much desperate to retain Caddy, although must realise that he could walk for nothing in the pre-season draft if he wanted (Caddy has not played enough football to be a free agent). This could also backfire on Caddy as it is almost certain that Gold Coast and GWS will have pre-season picks earlier than Essendon or any other Victorian club. Not long after his trade to Essendon collapsed, Caddy told the Gold Coast media that he could see himself being with the Suns forever, but as we know from previous situations with certain 20 year olds that front the media, what a player says and what a player does can be two very different things. With the Suns and Bombers unable to strike a deal last year with pick 19 and a player on the table, the chances of them working out a deal this year are even slimmer as the Bombers’ first round pick is being used under the father-son rule to acquire Joe Daniher. This means that the Bombers will either have to offer one of their top 10 players, or both of the clubs have to use a third club to do a three-way trade. Due to how many players the Suns have to delist they are not keen on a player exchange. It is believed that the Suns are most keen on regaining some of the compensation picks should they be forced to give up Caddy, but are content with early draft picks. With a deal between Essendon and Gold Coast looking unlikely, Caddy may have to open up his options and allow other Victorian clubs to approach him if he really is desperate to be home with his father. Geelong is known to be looking for a young hard at it midfielder as they prepare for when their ageing midfielders retire, and although Travis Boak is their first priority, should he not leave Alberton the Cats may well try and target Caddy. Geelong remains the only Victorian club to hold a compensation pick, which puts them in the best position in terms of negotiating with the Suns. The Demons are another club also looking for skilled midfielders and have money to splash to try and lure Caddy to AAMI Park, although there is some doubt as to whether the Demons can offer anything to the Gold Coast in return for Caddy as they have already activated both of their compensation picks for this season and once they are activated they cannot be traded. The Demons first pick (most likely pick 3) may also be end up being used to acquire father-son recruit Jack Viney, although the Demons are hopeful that GWS and Gold Coast won’t bid the first or second pick in the draft for him just to force Melbourne to use the third pick in the draft for the youngster. This would then allow the Demons to recruit Viney for a pick in the early 20’s and leave pick 3 available. Even if this did eventuate, it would not help the Demons get Caddy as there is no way the Dees would consider parting with pick 3 for Caddy. The Blues may also have a look at recruiting Caddy as they will be able to free up money if they decide to delist Brock McLean who is commanding a decent salary and was a big flop for Carlton until a few weeks ago. If Lenny Hayes retires at the end of this year, then the Saints may also make a bid for Caddy, although funds are tight at the Junction Oval. Richmond may also take a look at him whilst Kangaroos could also be a suitor to Caddy as his grandfather played for North Melbourne and the Suns player is said to have been a mad Kangaroos fan. So what will become of the Josh Caddy? An article in The Age a few weeks ago reported that Gold Coast would be willing to trade off one of its young ruckmen (although not Zac Smith) along with Caddy if a club was willing to offer a very good draft pick or an elite player. The Suns are also short of key defenders and would accept a trade that saw them get a decent player in that area. As it currently stands there are no solid key defenders on the market and thus will make it even harder for Caddy to leave. If Caddy does what he did last year and refuse to talk to anyone but Essendon, he will almost certainly find himself stuck at the Suns again. With trade week now going for a month, clubs will have more time to work out a deal but if Gold Coast and Caddy do not shift their stance, this could become very ugly.
  21. Thought I'd see where we think our current top 10 players are. 1- Nathan Jones 2- Mitch Clark 3- James Frawley 4- Mark Jamar 5- Jack Grimes 6- Liam Jurrah 7- Colin Sylvia 8- Sam Blease 9- Jack Trengove 10- Jeremy Howe apologies to Jordie Mckenzie. Maybe view it as, if these players were out injured, it would hurt our chances. Not based on potential (ie. Watts, T Mcdonald).
  22. Agree. He is contracted, is seen as an class player, who can kick goals, go in hard and versatile as a mid/fwd. He is better than 30 other blokes on our list. Unless its a top 15 pick in exchange for Sylvia, then DON"T WASTE OUR TIME. Move on.
  23. Swap pick 13 for Josh Caddy. 2 years development and will be very very good.
  24. Underperforming midfield, smashed in the clearances. Time for another change, so a Republic for me .... no Royals at MFC
  25. Here is a phantom draft from Big Footy. Good reading IMO. I think GWS will swap Jack Martin to Suns for pick 2, so Whitfield #1 and Grundy #2 to GWS. We woulkd be happy with Toumpas, Mayes, Wines and Viney. That's the engine room for 2013-2020 + Jones, Grimes, Trengove, Mckenzie, Gysberts. Goals from Clark, Jurrah, Howe, Sylvia, Blease and the Fitz. Defence from Tommy Mcdonald, Frawley, Sellar, Garland, Nicholson, Tappy and then one or two tough smaller types. 1st Round 1. Greater Western Sydney - Brodie Grundy (Ruck) Height: 202cm Weight: 100kg Club: Sturt Range: 1-6 Description: Grundy would be one of the best ruckman available in quite some time. He is probably the only true rival to Whitfield for that no.1 selection especially with Sheedy's comments about talls. Excellent tap ruckman who can really bring his midfielders into the game. Already has a big body and with his mobility and ability below his knees I think he will be able to come in and play as a 2nd ruck from day one. Could probably be the no.1 ruck on ability but he'd just get banged up. Reasonable contested mark, good tank on him already and his kicking skills are improving very quickly. 2. Gold Coast - Lachlan Whitfield (Midfielder) Height: 184cm Weight: 74kg Club: Dandenong Stingrays Range: 1-2 Description: Whitfield is the best junior in this years crop on current performances. To go along with his elite skills he has the endurance to just go and go all day at good speed. I have a feeling I read he clocked a 17 in the beep test which is incredible for a 17/18 year old. At this stage is more an outside midfielder who can go forward and kick goals which in modern footy is a more than handy attribute with the sub rule. With the Giants' array of inside mids Whitfield will be the outside class that they need to add to complete their midfield. 3. Melbourne - Jimmy Toumpas (Midfielder) Height: 183 Weight: 74 Club: Woodville West Torrens Range: 2-5 Description: Toumpas is a very highly skilled midfielder from SA.He's a player that a coach can throw anywhere on the field and he can perform. Has already been performing to a very high level at SANFL senior level as a 16 year old including a premiership with WWT. Like Whitfield is probably more of an outside type but has the ability to win a clearance and just burst out of a pack and be very damaging with his ball use once in the clear. Suns probably need inside mids Toumpas will be too hard to pass over and I believe ina few years will have no issue playing more inside. 4. Melbourne (compensation pick) - Sam Mayes (Midfielder/Forward) Height: 187cm Weight: 78kg Club: North Adelaide Range: 4-12 Description: I may be alone here but IMO Mayes will become the best player in this draft. Absolutely love the way he goes about his footy. He has one of, if not the very best kick in this draft pool. Top notch kick. Has a lot of versatility with his development beginning as a lead-up forward where he dominated at champs last year. This year has turned into a more full-time midfielder. Has copped some heavy defensive attention this year so is very highly rated. Last year playing forward he had the ability to get great separation from his defender and whilst I haven't really seen him use this burst as a midfielder as much he always seems to have an eternity. I think he compares pretty favorably to Pendlebury in this regard. 5. Western Bulldogs - Troy Menzel (Midfielder/Forward) Height: 186cm Weight: 77kg Club: Central Districts Range: 5-20 Description: If Menzel can stay fit he will probably be one of the most damaging players in the draft. Managed to kick 15 goals in 2 Champs games before succumbing to injury. Has had the LARS surgery but that was some 2 years ago. While I’ve currently got him going quite late I’m sure someone will take the punt on him early. Will probably go between 10-15 at least. Troy is a highly skilled medium forward/midfielder. He’s a great size and elite kick of the footy. As a forward he is more than capable of getting his goals from being a lead and mark player or as a crumber similar to a Stevie J. When fit is a pretty good athlete which should hold him in good stead at Draft Camp and boost his draft prospects. 6. Western Bulldogs (compensation pick) - Dayle Garlett (Midfielder/Forward) Height: 180cm Weight: 75kg Club: Swan Districts Range: 4-15 Description:Garlett is the most interesting player come draft night for mine. Will he go top 5-10 like his talent deserves or will he slide out of the first round due to his 'attitude problems.' By all accounts he still has a fair way to go to rid himself of the perception he has created but he has gone a long way to doing so. Another highly skilled outside mid going early but he has genuine line-breaking ability with his pace and deadly accurate kicking skills. He also has the ability to win his own ball but his forte will be as a goal-kicking outside midfielder. 7. Port Adelaide - Ben Kennedy (Midfielder/Forward) Height: 174cm Weight: 76kg Club: Glenelg Range: 6-25 Description: Kennedy is a lightning quick midfielder/small forward. Is very much capable of doing both to a very high level. Can rack up a huge number of possession through the midfield or kick bags of goals in the forward line. If he was bigger would be a certain top 10 IMO and is still a chance to go there. By all accounts was very close to being selected by Adelaide with the mini-draft pick last year so that gives an idea of where he is at. One thing I really like about him for a guy who has the assets he does is he has a touch of arrogance. (Maybe more than a touch) Just has that I’m going to be able to burn you off look in his eyes when he sizes his opponent up. 8. Brisbane - Lachlan Plowman (Defender/Midfielder) Height: 191cm Weight: 86kg Club: Calder Cannons Range: 4-13 Description: Plowman is a very good rebounding KPD whom the VM coach has said was sorely missed during the Champs (can't have been missed too much seems they won it ). I have him this high because a few Melbourne fans have said they believe they will take him. Just a hunch but I think his career may pan out similar to a Mundy. First few years as a rebounding HBF but then move into a midfield role. 9. Richmond - Josh Simpson (Forward/Midfielder) Height: 183cm Weight: 72kg Club: East Fremantle Range: 7-25 Description: Simpson broke his collarbone I believe earlier in the year so had a slow start and showed a few signs in the Championships. Plays midfield and forward and will probably start his career as a forward before developing into a midfielder. He still has a bit of filling out to do to be ready for AFL but he has some really great skills both football wise and athletically. Has a huge leap on him to go with some very good pace. Think long term he will develop into a Daniel Wells type. 10. Fremantle - Mason Shaw (KPF/Ruck) Height: 198cm Weight: 92kg Club: South Fremantle Range: 8-16 Description: It's a shame about the broken jaw that Shaw received earlier in the year. Kicked 8 in his return game but he hasn't really got going yet outside of that. Not completely sold on Shaw as a high pick but he's a great size at 198cm and can play as a 2nd ruck as well as FF. He's more of a stay at home forward rather that a guy who will roam up the field which is fine because he is a very good contested mark and looks like he could fill out to be a monster like Tippett. Kicked 7 in last years Grand Final so that should hold him in good stead come draft night. 11. St.Kilda - Jake Stringer (Midfielder/Forward) Height: 191cm Weight: 91kg Club: Bendigo Pioneers Range: 5-20 Description: Stringer could be the bargain of the draft or he may never get over his injury. He’s being looked at as a mid-late first rounder and with the Cats interest in him with a mini-draft pick they will be over the moon if he could last until their pick. Stringer is just a man mountain in under 18’s. I have a few question marks over his foot skills (I’ll admit I hadn’t seen him pre-broken leg so that could be the reason) and whether or not he dominates midfield because he’s just that much bigger. Having said that he’s not an awful kick and he does crack in hard so that should translate to being a dominate AFL clearance player too. I think if you are drafting him it’s as a midfielder who rests forward rather than a forward who pinch hits. 12. North Melbourne - Jonathon O'Rourke (Midfielder) Height: 183cm Weight: 75kg Club: Calder Cannons Range: 8-18 Description: O'Rourke is a skillful inside/outside mid who could possibly rise into top 10 calculations by seasons end. After an injury riddled 2011 he has remained injury free this year. Not an overly big player physically but is quite an accomplished player on the inside. Always seems to have time to pick the right option and hit his target. Fantastic composure. Is also a very good athlete with good mix of endurance and speed. Will probably play a season or two as an outside mid before moving into the guts. 13. Melbourne (compensation pick) - Oliver Wines (Midfielder) Height: 185cm Weight: 83kg Club: Bendigo Pioneers Range: 5-20 Description: Wines would challenge Viney for the title of best inside midfielder in this draft. He's a fair bit bigger than Viney and isn't afraid to crash in with his big frame. Has pretty good endurance so can run all day but isn't overly quick. He's a decent kick without being anything special and at Champs it would have been nice to see him convert a bit more of his oportunities in front of goal.He could be a viable option for GC if they really want a pure ball winner but I think they'll just go best available and pick inside mids later. 14. Carlton - Nick Vlastuin (Midfielder) Height: 187cm Weight: 83kg Club: Northern Knights Range: 5-20 Description: Vlastuin is a real hard nut inside midfielder. Someone who a GC, Richmond, Carlton would love to have. Wasn’t hugely productive in the Champs but was playing a new role off a HBF. For a big bodied inside mid he has some pretty neat kicking skills. The downside to him would be that he isn’t the most athletically gifted player going around in that he isn’t very quick, he doesn’t have a big leap and he’s already very physically developed. However, he is already a pretty high level player and has the added bonus of good leadership quality as well. 15. Sydney - Kristian Jaksch (KPF/KPD) Height: 194cm Weight: 85kg Club: Oakleigh Chargers Range: 8-30 Description: I think Jaksch will turn out to be the best of this years KPF. Not sure he is worthy of a top 10 pick at this stage but I think a team will snatch him up quite early. Is a pretty solid KPD but it's his work as a KPF that will push him up to being a pick in the top 15-20. Is a very good contested mark and I believe he is a guy you could build an attack around long term. Has very good skills for a big man and believe he will turn into a big, strong FF/CHF like a Hurley type.
