  1. Lucas Cook was always mentioned as a 20-30 pick in the year he was drafted. Most had us selecting Darling or Jacobs with our pick. Prendergast was a clown that has lead to the MFC demise and the current state. 1. Emma Quayle (Age) - Geelong Pick 23, Lucas Cook 12. MELBOURNE - DYSON HEPPELL Vital information: 18, from Gippsland Power. 189cm, 80. Clean, creative half-back/onballer who plays with urgency and a long left-foot kick. The rationale: Too good to leave sitting there. The Dees will consider any tall options that fall to them, but Heppell is a top talent. Put him at half-back and send Jack Grimes into the midfield. Best-laid plans: If Tom Lynch is there, he'll appeal. So will Jack Darling. Midfield options Shaun Atley and Brodie Smith will tempt them. 2. Paul Daffey (AFL) - Kangas Pick 27, Lucas Cook 12. MELBOURNE - DANIEL GORRINGE We missed on Jacobs, Harper, Smith, Jetta, Atley, Darling (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
  2. Dean Towers (Nth Ballarat), Luke Andrews (Box Hill) and Leigh Osborne (Frankston) must ALL be on the radar from the VFL. They are all good running types. In terms of midfield options, surely Ben Ross, Werribee, 22yo, JJ Liston winner for 2012 is a possibility. He was delisted by Kangas at end of 2011, due to Wells, Swallow, Bastinac, Ziebell, Cunnington and Adams being ahead of him. Is a standout in the VFL and excelled in the 2012 VFL v Tassie game. Ready to step up. Maybe a pick 50+ option for us.
  3. Agree , marginal call here. The club is best placed. Has shown some signs but it depends on how ruthless Neeld is. I would also look at Kyle Hartigan in the VFL as a good tall (21yo) option.
  4. We should split into : 1st tier: Travis Boak, Brendon Goddard (we offer $$$$$$$$$ and pick 3,4) 2nd tier: Chris Knights, Ben Jacobs, Brett Meredith, Koby Stevens, Jared Moore (we can offer a game & come home factor)
  5. Retired: Green Farewell: Liam Jurrah Free agents: Moloney & Rivers Delisted: Bate, Bennell, Bartram, Davey, Davis, Cook. Trade/delist: Petterd, Jetta, Morton. Thats 13 off ... ( Foundation (12): Jones, Frawley, Clark, Trengove, Grimes, Howe, Jamar, Sylvia, J Mckenzie, T Mcdonald, Blease, Tapscott On thin ice (3): Gawn (need him to stand up), Watts (intensity?) Garland (must cement the key back role) Keep (8): Martin (huge upside) & Spencer (for ruck depth), Gysberts, Strauss, Dunn, Joel Macdonald, Sellar, Bail Develop (4): Fitzpatrick, Nicholson (elevated rookie), Taggert, Tynan. So we must add 12 more as Nicholson is elevated. Targets (Trade, Free agents & Psd): Travis Boak, Brendan Goddard, Josh Caddy, Ben Jacobs, Koby Stevens, Shaun Mckernan, Chris Knights, Xavier Ellis, Ashley Smith, Callum Bartlett. Draft: 3 (Jimmy Toumpas),4 (Oliver Wines), 13 (Sam Colquohoun), 25 (Jack Viney), 45 (Nathan Wright), 65 (Dean Towers).
  6. Our top 10 ... Jones, Clark, Sylvia, Grimes, Howe, Jamar, Blease, Frawley, Trengove, Jurrah (when fit and free)
  7. Rewind to September 2011: Brent Moloney, Melbourne FC best and fairest winner 2011. Barracked for the Dees as a boy and now has won the b&f. At 26, he is poised as a potential leader and captain. Herald Sun: OUT-of-favour Melbourne midfield star Brent Moloney will be footy's first free agent. Moloney is certain to leave the Demons and up to six clubs, including Sydney and Port Adelaide, are pursuing the Melbourne 2011 best-and-fairest winner. Dropped for the last 2 games of 2012. Has lost a yard of pace and seems a little p##$ssed off with the club. (???) Thoughts? why? how? compensation ??????????
  8. as a consistent star ... go back to 1975-85. Robert Flower. Others have threatened , Gerard Healy (before Swans), Lyon, Synes, Schwartz and Neitz. But none where consistently in the league top 10-20 players. Our kids have no ICON to follow , like the Judd, Ablett, Franklin, Hird, Buckley, Koutoufides, Carey, Lockett, Voss, Kelly, Ruccuito types etc etc. WE NEED A STAR
  9. This kid at the Lions showed some good form in the 2nd half of the 2012 year. A mate who is a Lions fan says he could be a real AFL star when he hits the 1sts. His draft bio from 2009 reads well, and 3-years in the sun at the Lions. Height: 179cm Weight: 75kg DOB: 19/06/91 Recruited from: North Geelong Bio: Quick and agile goal-kicking midfielder with excellent ball winning ability. Disposal by foot is a feature of his game.
  10. Marlon Motlop is putting in some very very impressive efforts in the WAFL. His recent form has been fantastic and had lead Swan Districts to equal top. In fact his last 6 weeks would have seen him get Sandover votes in every game. Has now acquired a man's body. Had time at Port Power 2008-2011. Drafted as an 18 year old, with great skills and pace. Ideally suited to a wing position, and would be one to grab either with a pick around 50ish or as a rookie draftee.
  11. mistake number 26 under Bailey and one of Barry Prendergasts many "what was I thinking" moments move on to 2012 draft and hope we "learn" our lesson Dayle Gartlett - huge talent, skilled, great Rioli like goal kicking ability ... but had some off field concerns. GET HIM anyway.
  12. Ruthless = delistings - Jamie Bennell, Matthew Bate, Aaron Davey, Neville Jetta, Troy Davis, Cale Morton, Lucas Cook, Ricky Petterd & Jake Spencer (Brad Green retired). That's 10 off the list. Brent Moloney, Lynden Dunn, Joel Mcdonald all survive.
  13. Strategy ... (optomists only Chook ... BTW stop feeding yourself) 1. muscle - again we get pushed aside too easly. Watch the crows, eagles etc and their body shapes are superior to us. 2. fitness and injuries - our curse continues. Some clubs such as the kangas and swans have 2-3 players out with injuries. We have 10-15 out, with this year up to 9 players out "for the season". 3. positive confident footy (and ENTERTAINING). Not sideways, sideways, backwards turnover footy. Its pointless. Forward quick footy is MANDATORY. We must aim to kick goals. The first simple strategy is to be able to kick a winning score. 4. tackling that is elite. It is crucial. Too often the opposition gets the ball "forward'> You rarely get a holding the ball decision nowadays. 5. forget the handball handball handball turnover footy. We overpossess the footy (whn we have it). Handball, run, kick is abetter style. Watch the kangas, and crows resurgence. Their style is quick and effective. No "mucking around". 6. clearances: intensity, keep your feet, work & blok for others ... we are absent at all these. We have the grunt (Jones, Mckenzie, Magner). Its not the heart but the brain at these clearances. WE get SMASHED. Neeld get it right. 7. kick ins and kick outs: GET IT RIGHT. Overall, this "event" happens between 25-40 times a match. We are rubbish at defending kick outs, or attacking from our kick ins. Neeld MUST get it right NOW. 8. break the lines running - get Strauss, Grimes, Sylvia, Bail, Blease etc. to run run run & run. I don't care if they get caught. Just run and gun. 9. Forward crumbing ... the last man was Davey back some 5 years ago. We rarely get goal from a crumbing event. opposition often score 4-5 goals to our NIL. This has to do with fwd setup but also blokes hitting the base of packs. (even Calinan and Petrenko were active and setup goals from turnovers & fwd crumbing ... and Milne, Thomas, Riolo, Lewis Jetta etc etc get goals from this ). We need strategy. We are absent in any real entertaining footy. The above is needed NOW.
  14. Heart and soul player. Gives 100% each week.
  15. 1st sign of madness ... barracking for the mighty Demons. We have all kept the faith. Forty plus years for me. No premierships. Joy but many heartaches. This is now or never. At the crossroads. Cut the weak. Get players that will look you in the eye and bleed red & blue. Who do you barrack for son? Why do you love footy? Kamikaze style players? strategy 1: change the game style to be aggressive. 12-15 goals a game is the goal. Forget the rest. If they kick, 20+ goals. I don't care. It must be aggressive and entertaining. players: Top shelf: Jones, Clark, Frawley, Sylvia, Howe, Grimes, Trengove, Blease. They are weapons. Use them. Be aggressive. New blood: Jesse Hogan (#3 to GWS), #4 Oliver Wines, #13 Ben Kennedy , #25 jack Viney, #46 Jake Calvert (shhh ...this kid can play). Free agents: get Goddard ... $750k a year over 4 years. He is a leader. He's aggressive. He shows the way. Jred Moore (swans) ... money ball player. Will play every game as a small fwd. If he doesn't get it, he will attack the player to get it back. Frozen out by the swans. Trade in : Koby Stevens for Cale Morton. Chris Knights for Ricky Petterd.
  16. But for 1 week of this season I would just love to see our players playing with some sparkle in their eyes and enjoying the game that most of us dream we can play at that level AGREE AGREE AGREE We need to love the game style. Neeld's style is slow and boundary riding. Corridor ?? What corridor? We handball to others under pressure, we kick sideways and backwards x4 any other side. Aggressive. Play on style. Watch the Crows - 218 kicks to 108 handballs. Demons 188 kicks to 168 handballs.
  17. Dockers will win by 60+. They will go for jugular. We are playing for ...?? pride ???
  18. Great bloke. Has bled red and blue for 6 years up until 2012. One bad year and he is gone. Rewind to the end of 2012. B&F club champion. He spoke about how you can play for the club or ^&%#$% off. How fickle we are? Is it a club ... or a business? Don't complain about Scully etc if you offload Beamer after one poor year. Aaron Davey has had 3 shockers !!!
  19. the AFL is a cut throat league. The top 8 is solid. Richmond, Essendon and Carlton will be drawing blood next year to get into the top 8. None of the top 8 looks like getting any weaker. The Cats have blooded new players who are on the up. Suns and Giants will get better. We need 1. new young players 2. a better improved game style 3. good run with injuries. Forget ladder positions. From 21 games to date, we have won 4 (3 agst the new teams), were competitive in another 4 (Saints 1st time, Power, Dogs, Freo) and were frankly out of the game by 3/4 time in another 13 (!!) . That has to change.
  20. I liked Luke Parker in under age footy. Six B&F's in a row from Under 11's to under 16's. Swans got a bargain in the mid 20's. We must TARGET Josh Caddy. Exactly what we need.
  21. agreed. Watched him in the under age champs in the game Country vs Metro. Not able to effect that game, but I saw enough to think he could be top 10. Has HUGE upside.
  22. 6. Sylvia - NOW get out his back, Col is vital for 2013 and beyond. 5. Jones - my 6-yr old son loves Jonesy grunt and desire for the footy. 4. Sellar - a good #53 draft pick. Versatile as a key fwd or back 3. Howe - puts a smile on my face. Great mark and agile. A big pres season and watch out. 2. Grimes - got better over the last few weeks. Now lets see a full season and an ability to run the loines again. 1. Dunn - has found a spot in defence. Now a versatile option in our list. minus 6 : Spencer. 9% hitouts to advantage, that's 2 out of 21. In fact, half his taps went direct to the Crows midfield. Jacobs was in their best 5. We lost the centre square and clearances.
  23. JACK WATTS I also was on the Jack Watts # 1 pick bandwagon (ahead of Rich and Natanui). Though I had Watts 1, Natanui 2 and Hurley 3. I saw a bright young man, with elite skills, aerobic ability and a young Nick Riewoldt type. I missed his lack of intensity or willingness to desire the AFL work ethic. In under age footy, his skills and talent got him ahead. Not in AFL firsts. He needs: - a bit more raw mongrel - 3 months in the gym, on protein powder. Forget the 5 kms run. Gym sessions twice a day. - desire and skills to be executed without laziness. At the moment he is Cale Morton like. A floating half back, with no accountability and unable to compete man on man. Sure he outmarked Jared Petrenko who is 8 inches shorter. No trade yet, but 2013 MUST BE A HUGE YEAR.
  24. Yes I do understand the modern game, and so does Brenton Sanderson. Disposals Crows 326 (kicks 218 handballs 108) Demons 356 (kicks 188 handballs 168). Switch must be effect. Not when you are 55 metres out from goal. I watch 3-4 games a week and we "give up" 4-5 goals per game. as well as missing 3-4 simple chances ourselves. This is ridiculous. My points are a strategy for success. Others welcome to contribute, but not more negatives.
