Season 2024 Over for Clayton Oliver
Pennant St Dee replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
A very special player and If he has the desire to get seriously fit, he will be a massive bonus in 2025. Hope he gets healthy and happy within himself again. Ball is in your court Clarrie, but most importantly look after you -
Jack Viney Extends Contract Until 2028
Pennant St Dee replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
He actually said that I listened to the segment. As others of said part of the media barrage were copping currently. Cornes actually ran with this yesterday as part of our implosion saying Viney was looking around. He actually knew when he made this statement it was false. When Cornes brought it up this morning it was he who pushed Viney, Clark was more discussing the kind of experienced player he was looking for. He was like this earlier in the season with Bevin and he will not let up -
How typically Melbourne Brodie Grundy
Pennant St Dee replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes playing as the #1 ruck has increased the player rating but after Rd 10 he has been fairly ordinary and actually providing very little around the ground. I see why we traded for him but also agree once the decision was made that it didn’t work it was right to clear space and move Grundy on -
Season 2024 Over for Clayton Oliver
Pennant St Dee replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Kane picks low hanging fruit and currently that is us. Earlier in the year it was Bevo and North. In March it was the Hawks tanking because they offloaded O’Meara and Mitchell On Tuesday he said we were along with Richmond a club who he saw no real upside for the next four to five years Yesterday he was saying how many good players under 22 we had and that a few good decisions could turn everything around quickly Kane on a daily basis opens his mouth without thinking or without giving any consideration to his previous comments -
I wouldn’t try and use logic with an irrational person

Ever had a new mum struggling and needed to make a work decision to give her a support network she trusts. I have, may not be relevant to this decision but having some life experience helps me to look at all possibilities. Not saying there aren’t issues within the 4 walls but ffs try and keep open mind

It’s going to be difficult to top “We fluked a Premiership” which has been trotted out regularly by certain poster
-
And that in a nutshell is the crux of it. So many posters losing it over this story which is an everyday occurrence in AFL at clubs. Is there some substance in it, I would say yes Has Tom Morris taking journalistic license and talked it up while adding mayo, I would say yes Does Roffey or Pert need to come out - absolutely not Deal with it internally and leave it at that
-
I’m embarrassed for these people
-
Mate defence wins premierships
-
We have a gun ruck and obvious thing when game is on the line is to own the outside and force them under the footy but we don’t do that ever But in all honesty these AFL line coaches aren’t [censored] they do actually know what they’re doing
-
Hold on we’ve been known in the past for being a stoppage team. Im also a build from defence minded coach
-
Yes he wasn’t terrible but the haters are going to hate Not saying he’s been a success
-
I’m really not sure what I’m watching all year with our CBD and stoppage set ups, for mine we set up to win the second possession as if to strip it after they win first possession.
-
Could have kicked around the corner too, end of the day he’s a kid my whole point is people focussing on individual things when there were so many turnovers that killed our momentum. overall happy with effort and the fact the season is done but we still have a crack. Very different club from the Schwab days
-
And Kolt missed a very easy shot Lever out marked by Narkle endless fwd entries not to advantage but let’s focus on a whipping boy ffs he’s not the reason we list we lost because we lacked composure with ball in hand including Mcvee who is generally good
-
@dazzledavey36 embarrassing post in game day thread re Clarrie, you’re better than that As for the game can’t fault players effort but some dumb decisions with ball in hand
-
Pretty much nailed it, there’s other ways to say you don’t think he”ll make it. I know the kid, (so don’t like the comments)he played cricket with my eldest and junior footy against him coming through and also coached him in WAFL development. When he was picked up I said he was coming from a fair way back and stand by that. He had a very interrupted WAFL pre season let alone an AFL pre season so we’re not seeing his best. To hold down a key position as a 17 going year old is no easy task but he managed it last season. I’m not sure whether he makes it but he’s got size and some mongrel and will hit contests hard. Hopefully he gets a decent run at it in the off season

And as for inheriting the best defence in the competition May, Lever and Petty all brought in after Roos departure you may remember the Frost, Omac defence previously

Dees 2001-2024 = West Coast (2005-2008)
Pennant St Dee replied to TracWhack's topic in Melbourne Demons
That is just not true in anyway. Whilst things aren’t currently looking good I hate the rewriting of history We actually looked very good heading towards the end of the home and away season 2023. We won 8 from 9 heading into finals and looked to have solved our scoring issues with Petty and Melk looking good forward with the normal fwd mix. Petty went down in Rd 21 vs North and after a close loss to the Blues we changed the dynamic with Smith, Mel, Roo, Fritta and Kozzie fwd and were travelling well. We absolutely destroyed the Swans up there in the final home and away round but unfortunately lost Melk to the ACL and Fritta injured the foot which hampered him for the remainder of the year So please don’t tell me we didn’t improve since Rd 11 2022. We may have won 10 in a row to start 2022 but I reckon we weren’t actually playing that well and some opponents were actually a bit overawed by us -
Probably and up until this year was going well at Essendon, has he fallen away due to them now being to tall or are is his workfare questionable. I wouldn’t be selling the farm for him
-
Absolutely, Trac inside F50 is our biggest point of difference. He should only get occasional runs through the middle. If he’s worried about further injury then the ground is no place for him but he’s a competitor so I have no concerns re him returning to where he left off
-
Yes someone like a Chol
-
In my mind forward line set up needs to change and Trac needs to play their around 70% JVR obviously becomes the big dog and Petty, May Lever are all down back. We are so much more dangerous with Trac fwd and a steady strong defensive set up is part of our DNA. I think Rivers becomes a regular mid and Oliver with a full pre season I expect should see him get back to a trimmer version of himself which with his natural gifts will only benefit him. We definitely need some mids and wouldn’t mind finding a pinch hitting ruck fwd with a seasoned body for a year or so
