  1. Need to consider the flip side effect on being smashed at ground ball gets and fast transition on turnover due to going in to tall. For this reason long bombs won’t work as they’ll just flood numbers back and spread quickly on rebound. If we can get more separation and 1v1s in our F50 and move the ball similarly to the game last week vs Carlton, we should expose the lack of defensive height. A good mix inside our F50 of small and tall should still work both ways
  2. Bingo, but Deelanders fall for it every year and the media generally know it’s a nothing story, but hey columns need to be filled
  3. Absolutely not in disarray, and as for people saying if Clarrie is physically fit he plays no ifs or but, that would be a massive mistake. The club knows what they are doing and if he’s ready they will play him. If they choose to give him another week or so it will be for the best. Swans midfield still has Guilden, Warner, Heeney, with Sheldrick who will step up this year and Jordan, Rowbottom to run through there. Papley may also get short stints through there. I don’t think our FD will be underestimating them
  4. You’re wasting your time trying to explain anything to this poster.
  5. It’s not that simple and I’m glad it’s not. We have copped heat all through the off season regarding our culture and the steps with Clarrie were started last year, before any stories broke in the media. I love Clarrie as a player and what he brings but this is part of building a solid team first sacrifice culture like 2021. Nobody no matter how good they are is immune from that
  6. Demonland, thank you very much for the updates, much appreciated
  7. Will be load management would have reached their km’s, I would assume
  8. Whatever happens there will be handwringing and unfortunately to many are so driven to want change overnight they can’t see subtle change. Lets not gild the lily we are not currently in a great place injury wise or with the off field issues relating to some of our players. I like many of our fan base have been around a long time and seen a lot of footy and still love the game and to be involved in it. It’s a cliche but I stand by the things are never as good as they seem and are never as bad as they seem. The media and many here seem to forget the club is aware of some of the issues at hand. There was outrage at the thought of the club trading Clarry and some were going to walk away from the club. Was that the moment when the club drew a line in the sand and whilst the JS revelations this week are not ideal we may be already down the road to beginning to address those things. I personally recall being quite happy towards the end of 2020, whilst we didn’t make finals after2 losses against Sydney and Freo, there were big signs of how good we were looking defensively and there were some smart (not many) footy people who thought we’d be top 5 in 21 if we stayed healthy. We know how that ended and whilst this year will be challenging, injuries, suspensions and retirements bring opportunities as we’ve seen before. Sometimes they take 30-50 games to really bear fruit but they all start somewhere. I don’t accept mediocrity and I never consider us top 4 certainties. I understand the game and the peaks and troughs it brings. Whatever will be will be in 2024 and any issues in the playing group will certainly be addressed and action will be taken. Its going to be fascinating
  9. Yes my thoughts exactly although there are special players who you identify quickly as culture changers (for the better) , so wouldn’t be locked into the 3-4 year players. Viney and Gus were such players, some despised him but Joel Selwood was another, like Lenny Hayes
  10. Be nice if others followed suit, this is at this point about celebrating a great servant of the club who justifies the faith in us picking him at 3 and the influence he has had on and off field. We were close to being really up against in that 3rd quarter of the 21 GF, where Gus was immense. He was a fantastic player, a great clubman and remains a wonderful human being with a life ahead of him. The commentary towards Maynard does nothing but fuel the media towards stories of the impact it may have on him. Whilst we don’t care neither do they, it’s about finding ammunition to fuel repeat articles of supporter hate, when this should be a tribute and celebration of a man who served his club and played a pivotal role in the turning of a club to reach the ultimate
  11. One would hope #10 net season and beyond goes to a special player and person who embodies everything Gus brought to the club and game day. If they have half the impact Gus had, we and they will be heading in the right direction
  12. Very well measured post. Today is about Gus as a MFC player and wishing him and his family well for the future
  13. Thanks for the memories and bleeding red and blue throughout your career Gus. A very small part of your life in the big scheme of things is done, time for you to enjoy a healthy life which I have no doubt will involve football in some capacity. Good luck to you and your family A Dee forever
  14. Prelim 96 Prelim 99 Premiers 00 Runners up 01 Not to mention half a dozen won the flag in 93 Not even close
  15. Exactly the stat indicates he won 5 clearances and kicked 2 goals like they were linked. Turn one way and drive with your legs before disposing. Absolutely no point in zigging and zagging only to dispose the footy in a manner which had minimal advantage. But if looks good to the eye that’s enough
  16. I just shake my head at comments such as the one you responded to, really poor against one of our own
  17. @Demonland I understand we’re behind in the West, however title of the thread says Wednesday February 8th 2024. My watch, computer and phone all saying Wednesday February 7th
  18. Bombers, Roos and Lions recruiters were in Perth last week conducting interviews with potential draft candidates for 2024.
  19. Just go out and play, forget outside noise and stay focused There will be peaks and troughs throughout, but trust the group around you and be team first in everything we do. If we stay fit, perform to our best and see improvement in our 20-50 game players we will be in contention
  20. There always that one person who brings logic to try and destroy a myth Away with you, do you not realise posters on here know otherwise. Unfortunately to many can’t see intricate changes in front of their eyes and wish to fabricate Chinese whispers as gospel
  21. Darcy hadn’t signed when they started chasing Jackson
  22. They have no big bodied mid as evident by their struggles in midfield last season without Mundy. Whilst Brayshaw and Serong are very good mids they ain’t the midfield bulls Mundy and a fit Fyfe are. They have no small forwards with an aging Walters along with losing Henry and Schulz. you have no idea what standard SVR is I doubt you have seen him play. They have taken him and Voss on board to train all summer along with Dan McKenzie as the players who they see as the best available talls who come a lot cheaper as back up because with Jackson, Darcy, Serong, Brayshaw all on big money and Amiss going to command big money throughout his career it ain’t happening
  23. Really, they have Jai Amiss long term who will be a gun and other holes to fill across the ground before getting tied up chasing JVR
  24. I expect moving forward their ruck forward combo is Flynn and Bailey Williams,. Midfield depth is what they will look to build on in their list build Yeo, Reddan, Shuey all to be replaced, Sheeds body isn’t great outside run in the old Gaff, Masten and Darling/Kennedy replacement to partner Oscar Allen all needed although I do like the potential in Jack Williams. don’t think English will be as big a target for them as he was in 2022 Could be wrong but just MO
