Welcome to Demonland: Caleb Windsor
Same way many turned on Bowey last season and Chandler the previous year. Amazing what good pre seasons and getting over the 50-80 game mark does to improve a player’s awareness and ability to play at AFL level does.

Time to go Goody?
Good summary, I’m astounded some are saying we haven’t changed the game plan. Whilst we’ve seen some of the old long bomb rear it’s head in the last 4 games it’s more to do with old heads reverting to ingrained habits as opposed to a game plan of getting it in deep and quick to the pocket to lock it in. The way we’re trying to move it from the back half is the big change, it’s looked really good at times but also broken down with not everyone totally in sync. Having said that Goody may not see the rebuild on the run out, this is where the President and CEO not being in place yet may be a factor. Everyone needs to be on the same page and stability is your best player.

Petracca was controllable, really [censored] it was a game day collision

So who won us the 2021 Flag, Yze, Burgess or Goodwin, can you make up your mind

The Roan Steele Thread
Well done Roan you will play at least 1 more AFL game than me but FFS I’m sick of posters taking any opportunity to kick the club. Missing out on Steele isn’t why we find ourselves in the current situation. It’s not like we haven’t thrown a lifeline to VFL and state league players without some success

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
Very good post, I think Trac needs to be played a lot more as a forward, under no circumstances would I have all 3 at a CBD. Goody is at a crossroads where his loyalty to these players is impacting the game plan. When we were showing good signs either Viney or Oliver were missing and it was very obvious how both Clarry and Trac were looking to handball to the runner as opposed to bombing long. With finals gone Goodwin needs to continue with the evolving game plan, no matter who the players are who won’t buy in move passed them. Play Rivers in the middle with Kossie and one of Trac/Oliver/Viney. Try Lindsay in there Mcvee, Bowey, Langford or Windsor in there for short stints. You never know what you will find.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
He is a fantastic coach, but old mate Swyl would have sacked him after the straight sets loss in 2014 and not even making finals in 2015. We’re a very different beast to Geelong though. I’m undecided on Goodwin as it stands, my mind will be likely swayed by the way we finish the season. Whatever the outcome not just changing the coach is needed, big decisions need to be made, Clarry is a constant distraction and whilst he’s been an absolute star a change IMO would be good for both parties and Fritsch also needs to go

Think about it Geelong were up under Thompson from 2004-2010 repeated finals with a bad year in 2006 when the club stood firm when everyone wanted him Sacked Scott took over in 2011 won a flag first year with some criticism that it wasn’t his list and he just inherited an A grade side. You wanted Goodwin sacked after Premiership and two more finals appearances. You wanted us to appoint Yze as coach on what grounds, let me understand again he was responsible for 21 yet not responsible in any way for the straight sets losses in 22 and 23 We would have been absolutely hounded if we sacked him then, just like we would have been crucified had we let Oliver go when we signed him to a big contract in 21. I seem to recall you being one of the most vocal how bad it was that he was even being talked about as leaving. Well that in hindsight is another noose we could have done without. He is under pressure now because of 2024 and 2025, but saying he should have been let go in 23 is absolutely ludicrous

I love your selective quotes Geelong went away and got better after the 2021 PF, Please tell me about what they did after 2020 GF loss 2019 PF loss after being minor premiers 2018 eliminated by us 2017 PF loss to Adelaide 2016 PF loss at the G to Sydney 2015 no finals 2014 out in straight sets 2013 PF loss after losing WF to Freo at the Cattery 2012 EF loss to Freo at the G By your logic you would have shown Scott the door after 2015 Even more so taking into account the star studded lineup he has at his disposal with the salary cap wrought you also love to bang on about. Goody is on thin ice but wanting out after 23 typical hyperbole by yourself. Thinking before typing is something I recommend for you rather then regurgitating the usual cliches and failing to respond when you’re asked a question specific to the actual game

Time to go Goody?
Yes they are, but he is a game changer, ability is one thing to have but his work rate coupled with that makes him a very special player in the Ablett jnr mould. He would change any team overnight

Luke Jackson back to Victoria?
What do you want us to say FFS we’re are 14th because we haven’t won enough games, that’s a fact. To you and your ilk everything needs to be black and white, anything in the grey requires greater thought. We kicked poorly against GWS, Collingwood and Hawthorn in games we played well there’s 3 more wins, we played [censored] against Saints and had we kicked straight win that. However all that does is paper over some cracks. I’m actually done trying to explain the changes to people like you It’s a waste of time, you either can’t or refuse to see the changes in how we’re trying to pla. All you do is continually bag our players particularly the younger ones. As I said stop following or stay miserable I’m done with you
-
Luke Jackson back to Victoria?
Can you explain why Brisbane beat Geelong at the Cattery, yet drew with North and lost to us, Richmond beat the Suns. That should tell you how close things can be and how quickly they turn. You and others need to stop following because it’s not good for you all see is negativity.

Luke Jackson back to Victoria?
That’s nonsense old Dee and you know it, you’re back where you were in 2019 to mid 2021 wallowing in self pity. Average players playing their role and stepping up win you big games like Frampton clamping down on Andrews in the 23 GF, Fort stepping up in the GF last year, Hickey competing through the 22 season and in finals to get Sydney to the GF, sure we got to a prelim with Frost and Omac playing as key defenders. And there are many more. Teams like Carlton, Essendon and St Kilda have fallen foul of paying so much of their salary cap on a few stars and having a very poor bottom 6. It’s not our younger players who are the problem and when we get more games into them they will have greater consistency, we just need to continue building the youth and we can (like before) cash in on the free agents when May, Gawn, Lever etc cash frees up

Luke Jackson back to Victoria?
Do you rate North or Richmond’s youngsters?

Time to go Goody?
I’m sorry but Nibbler was with us last season how were we not winning more games last season. Do you also understand Adelaide effectively play 4 tall forwards in Walker, Thilthorpe, Fogarty and Curtin who play a long down the line style of game, there is always at least one of them presenting high up the ground as a transition option from defence. So their F50 entries are very much to a contest.

Time to go Goody?
We COMPETED(to quote you) post 2021, post 2023 was a different matter If you think there hasn’t been a change in ball movement you’re wrong. It’s there unfortunately it’s there just not fully engrained with the F50 entries

AFL Draft 2025: AFL Under 18 Championships
Benji is a good kid, spent a lot of time out of footy with stress fractures but last 18 to 20 months developed really well. He’s still only 16 and think he’ll learn a lot from the hit it against the SA boys and Duff-Tyler still to come

Time to go Goody?
I don’t buy the farm thing, just like I don’t blame umpires, we as Aussies have a shocking habit of finding excuses and laying the blame as to why we lost or didn’t get a player etc. Cats are fortunate they are outside of Melbourne and provide a great lifestyle which many would love. They have turned their club around through Cook, Costa and Wells. Add to that a gun coach and unique ground and your halfway there. We need to identify how we control our destiny and brand moving forward. I don’t look on the two straight sets losses as others do, to me it’s part of being up in the 8 for a decent stint and starting again in September. 2022 we were cooked come September but I felt in 2023 we were firing just before September and we’re in it up to our necks until Petty, Melksham and Brayshaw were ruled out. Unlike the Pre Roos era we have Kings birthday (post big freeze) and Anzac Eve which provide opportunities for players to play on the big stage. Get a settled board, maintain the 2 blockbuster games and be regular finals side for 4 to 5 years at a time and we’ll be fine in attracting/maintaining players and being a good club

Time to go Goody?
Great insight What this highlights is the difficulty in identifying a good coach, Many on here suggesting Longmire,Buckley and Simpson based on their media performances. It’s not difficult to review footage select clips and impress the masses with knowledge. Let’s select Johnson because he was a gun player, Jordan Lewis what exactly has he done to suggest he wants to coach, I’d have thought he’s firmly entrenched in the media. Mail I have is Skipworth is probably the next cab off the rank as ready to take a senior gig, it’s a tough gig but there are lots of variables and don’t kid yourself that timing and back room stability isn’t a major impact on field I’m not sure McRae would be an instant success without Nick Daicos (an absolute game changer) coming in and Maguire moving on Geelong are a very strong club off field and I rate Scott as the best coach going around but he had many detractors for years saying he inherited a Premiership team but couldn’t get it done on his own. Unless we finish horrifically I’m not keen on moving him without a list change up. Like some of our kids coming through and want some tough decisions made re some senior players

Games Won Since 2000
The only table that matters really at the end of the day is flags won since 2000, you can be really good H &A like Bombers 01, Port 01-03, us 22/23, Sydney 14, 24,Freo 15, Saints 09/10, Pies 11 , 19 for no return or be a team winning not many H & A but actually building but the table is Hawks 4 Lions 4 Cats 4 Tigers 3 Swans 2 Eagles 2 Pies 2 Dee’s 1 Port 1 Dogs 1 Bombers 1

Time to go Goody?
Don’t agree with Jordan, he’s struggling this season Agree with Oliver from last season and whilst hindsight is wonderful could you imagine if we let Clarrie go after 21/22 and hadn’t extended his contract Demonland would have exploded Yze responsible for 21 yet had no roll in the straight sets exits of 22 and 23, that is a myth
