  1. If only it where that easy, hopefully the new structure will see us having their consistency soon
  2. Yes I said in another post last year that Barty IMO could be our best run with player. 3 weeks in a row he kept Kerr, Cotchin & Ablett quiet not bad on a resume as a run with player. When I think of Bartram I think of Rowan JONES who was slated by many eagles fans but Woosha always said he was vital to the team and you could not have a team full of Benny Cousins's and Chris Judds. From memory they used to refer to Jones as the conduit. He was like Bartram gave everything he had but was not blessed with natural talent or polished skills. Is a whipping boy far to often for many on this site
  3. Just mention Sydney in 2005, Barry Hall, Leo Barry & Brett Kirk
  4. Seriously SavoyDee get over yourself, if you are feeling the club has no future because of the performance at the AGM then you need to reevaluate. In previous years we have talked ourselves up and done nothing on the field. I think the club ethos since 186 is no more small talk we let our on field performances speak for the club. The changes since the end of the season give me greater expectation and faith in the club and the board then people leaving the AGM feeling flat. Anyone can talk BS and make the patrons walk out feeling warm and fuzzy but salesman are not what this clubs needs anymore we are no longer desperate, we are now financial, good facilities, young promising list, future young supporters in Caset catchment and now a footy department similar to that of other clubs. Our new members will now come from our on field improvement not from shallow words of a salesman with no substance. By the way if you felt negative after last night we are not the finished article and there are still some ups and downs ahead before we become regular contenders. Have faith and enjoy the ride ahead on the dee-train
  5. Target Gaff &/or Dangerfield
  6. Can't really put into words Jim how much it means to me that you grabbed the club by the scruff of the neck and played the most pivotal role in getting us to where we are today. I thank you for giving me a club that my children and hopefully grandchildren can follow. You have done all you can for the club and now it's your time to look after yourself and the family, but Jimmy I want to see you wearing red and blue at the G in Round 1. Again from one Irishman to another Thank you
  7. Something we never had in the Danniher era and we have built now, which I believe puts us in a good position is our defence. Offence gets you memberships defence gets you premierships.
  8. Right I think it's time this thread was closed, it has gone from Gary's six month stint being over to those defending and those having a go at Jimmy. Now I love the man and want nothing more than a miracle to cure him. But let me say this, Jimmy is not well and we all know he has an uphill battle every day and please god I'm wrong, but he will do well to see our season out. Show the man some respect, he is our figurehead and Don Mclardy is the president. I'm pretty sure Gary even said himself at the time of taking on the six month task he didn't realise how sick Jimmy was, Like most of us we thought this is Jimmy he can beat anything he will find a way to get over this. Now these men on our board are not stupid they will have put plans in place to make decisions and yes Jimmy will be part of that but the others IMO will have a big input, The whole club have worked together to make the necessary changes since the end of last season. If you can't see how detrimental it would be to our club to move Jimmy aside in any way then you are very narrowminded. He has earnt the right to call time on his position and it is giving him something to keep living for and his mind away from his health issues. But make no mistake we are not leaving Jimmy in his role as charity he would not accept that and Mclardy, Lyon, Schwab and co would not allow that either. He has been and remains very valuable and committed to the club. Now move on and lets see how 2012 pans out before we start firing barbs at Jimmy or Gary
  9. and when you read it like that there are not many other clubs who have youngsters of that quality who have there best years ahead of them. This group as I have said on many other posts will form the nucleaus of our side for the next 10 years and the kids coming through like the Vineys etc will learn from this lot like the Cats kids all look so polished with the bigger bodies helping them out. On top of that it is Trengove, Frawley, Jones and Watts who along with Grimes will be the leaders on and off the field and are currently changing the culture. But FFS it doesn't happen overnight, I will say again we are not that far away as some think but FFS can we drop the DARLING V COOK thing its been done to death and will not be decided for another few years, picking or not picking Darling will not be the difference in us breaking our Premiership drought
  10. Was cycling around the Swan river today and as I came through Applecross there was a group of cyclists and low and behold one was wearing the Red & Blue the old LG sponsored Fila jumper but brought a smile to my face
  11. David Neitz but I will add that I don't agree with Chip being moved he is the next star defender of the AFL when Scarlett retires
  12. Agree totally changing by half measures sees your club being knocking on the door of the 8 without really ever threatening Top 4, it's been tough to take at times and even embarrasing with what occured last year at Kardinia Park, but as said in previous posts the last 4 years was really something we had to have and 2011 just smacked us in the face to say there is still a lot of hard work ahead
  13. Well said, he started the change which has had a big roll on affect, he helped clear the debt which was a massive shadow over our club and the new facilities and changes since the end of last season will see us competing on an even playing field. Culture doesn't change overnight but the wheels were put in motion back in 2008. We hit rock bottom and are on the way back up. Enjoy the journey and unlike some so called supporters as bad as we have been since 08 I have enjoyed watching some of these kids progressing it's a long time ago since I was a schoolboy and I didn't know it at the time but I think back now and believe we are heading somehwere similar to 1987, whether that is 2012 or 13 I don't know but I have faith.
  14. Co captains is Not my 1st choice either but whatever the club does we need several on field leaders across the ground, Ling was the Cats captain but they have leaders all over the ground as did the Swans of 2005-6 and the Lions and Port sides of 2001-2004
  15. Worked okay for Sydney in 2005, if we are relying on 1 person to show leadership qualities I will be dissapointed
  16. To all saying how good Darling is after his great first season, consider Rhys PALMER talked up as a jet in his first season who was overlooked by a few clubs and I am sure he aint Robinson Crusoe there. Time will tell but with me the Darling v Cook arguement doesn't fit it is more of a Darling v Howe arguement and I am pretty happy. I know a bit about Darling and his background so don't for one minute think he is on the straight and narrow for his whole career, Fev stayed out of trouble for a while to if you remember
  17. Co Captains Green/Trengove/Grimes Vice Captains Maloney/Frawley
  18. No he doesn't want to commit he has openly said he likes his life the way it is, he does not want to be like eddie & jimmy working 24/7 not everyone is suitable for that. Let me just add yes Gary loves the club but what he did was for Jimmy more than the club. He knows how much the club means to Jimmy and when he visited Jimmy and spoke with him after the Kardinia debacle he understood the job ahead for Jimmy at the club and he was asked to help not for the first time. Gary had said no before for the reasosn discussed in paragraph 1 but it was now his opinion that he did not feel Jimmy could do this whilst also battling for his health. This was said by Gary in numerous interviews and on TFS people can have an agenda against Gary and take shots at him being half in and half out. I care about the club and took him on face value when he came in 6 months ago that he would do what was best for the club. IMO he has done that and even more than I expected but it is not solely his work and it is not over. Let's just wait and see how the structures he and the others have put into place pan out before we start firing missiles at him
  19. Dean BAILEY perfromed a job that was required for the club at the time and he probably was a good man for the new kids at the club. But I am not sure he had the ability to take them to the next level after their initial introduction. I think 2011 and the Geelong game made that very clear to the board and selection panel and the plans to move forward started prior to the Kardinia Park debacle, that was just the straw which broke the camels back. The unrest at the club which was spoken about around the time IMO was workings occuring for planning from 2012 and beyond. A fresh start was required straight after that game and planning for 2012 onwards had to commence before September and that is what happended, Gary & Jimmy along with others realised Bailey could not take us forward. Comparing the Adelaide and Bulldogs scenarios is like comparing apples & oranges. I see Gary as being honest throughout he said he was here for 6 months to sort the mess out. IMO he realised Jimmy due to his health could not do the job. Cam SCHWAB much maligned has assisted with the debt demolition (he also cleared a large debt at Freo) and other ares in which we have moved forward. I think Gary has put a cesession plan in place when as much as I hate to say it Jimmy can no longer be our sripitual leader. Cam SCHWAB is now doing what he does best looking after the business side of the club and hopefully cease meddling in football department affairs. You don't have to be liked to be a good CEO and he is one of the best. Gary has not walked away from the club he will still have an interest it is just the end of his every day input he loves the club and will continue to help in whatever way he can. In Mclardy I saw a silent assasin he says little but when he speaks I like what he says, he is not Jeff KENNETT or Eddie but I am still confident in him bringing the club forward. Neeld seems a no nonsense man who demands success and the tools required to achieve it, IMO underperforming players will be shown the door fairly quickly. 2012 will see us move forward it may be a small step but it is the foundation for a succesful future and it started last year. What did the club learn from 2011 - Things don't just happen no matter how talented you are, You make them happen
