  1. Reading the Casey player reviews, as a fan I really loved the honest frankness for a change. As a fan I'd love to see that for the AFL side too. However I can't help but think that, going into battle, the last thing you need is the enemy knowing what your coaches think (not to mention your coaches diverting time to writing stuff for public consumption anyway and its psychological effect on the players). So, as much as I'd love reading the coaches factual player reviews, I'd be dead against them being shown anywhere, other than to the players and other coaches, and only if Roos wanted that.
  2. Sorry Twister I've lived outside Australia for 40 years so can't relate. But at least they HAD junior footy. I just found the website for the Melbourne primary school I went to. It used to be footy mad every day [fine for me]. From viewing the sports areas and every inch of their web site, it appears that NO Aussie rules is ever played at that school!!! I'm in shock! What's going on in Melbourne since I left? Hope you don't mind Twister, I didn't want to start a new thread & yours was the closest subject. Cheers
  3. I always thought calling our team the "Dees" showed a tough but humorous attitude actually, so liked it a lot. You all know what a "D" is an abbreviation for in America right?
  4. Yes Deeold that's what I heard. Petrol money for those driving etc., but they all got the meat pie! And I think the culture was better for it, without the huge player payments.
  5. I loved his playing. ..don't know exactly, but I thought most players then just got petrol money and a meat pie on game day.
  6. It seems about 99% of the football world want Viney to get off. However like many things in life, it seems several diverse factors influence the outcome. Mainly the AFL may fear parents choosing soccer over footy for their kids if it's publicized that, in Aussie rules, a player can break anothers jaw without even giving away a free kick or being suspended. Secondly, viewing at normal speed, viney obviously just braced for impact and had no option; the more it's slowed down, the more it erroneously gives the illusion he deliberately nailed him because, slowed down, there appears to be time to make choices and maneuver when there really isn't.
  7. Agreed Jarka! That's why a few days ago i suggested he move into the VINEY household for awhile to learn some necessary lessons from Todd and JV.
  8. Best quarter from Jamar for a LONG time. Watts tackling & going in but one badly missed mark.
  9. I agree with you CDDees, but that was 100% NOT my point at all and I shouldn't have mentioned the school because it's triggered a reflex. Everything else written I did mean though. The values at home are very, very influential and specifically I found Jacks mothers interview alarming. She seemed a lovely mum, but not one to encourage physically tough play from Jack at all, nor to believe footy's a serious career.
  10. I just posted this on post match discussion, but realize it should be here. I've loved and always defended Jack Watts talents, but: I don't know, but is Jack still living with his parents? Does anyone remember the interview with Jacks mum just after he was drafted? Please correct if I'm wrong but I recall her saying things like, "Don't worry, Jack's got his head screwed on correctly, he knows it's only a game of football," she said depreciatingly. She seemed as lovely a mum as anyone could possibly have, but her attitude towards the game seemed appropriate for someone playing school footy, who's going on to a serious career later (she'd mean non-football career as nothing football would be serious enough to risk injury over). I've meet plenty of Brighton Grammar type mothers like that (I was at Scotch) and can imagine her saying, "Now don't you get hurt out there Jack, it's not worth it," and Jack, being a good boy would agree. Jack needs to share a HOME with some intelligent but tough footballers. Preferably lighter weight like himself. He should move in to the VINEY household for awhile!! ..have their URGENCY rub off on him, learn more about navigating physically tough scenarios while avoiding injury yet pressuring/intimidating the opposition. Also to learn that this IS his serious job, can pay well and lead to post playing jobs also.

  12. We did well, got tired. Grimes should have known 5 min B4 siren. He kicked to a contest & they ended up with a goal. Simple easy posession would have been the way to handle the last 5 minutes of Q2
  13. 4 times Frawley in good position forward, but terrible delivery to him
  14. I'll agree with Jumbo about Dunn, and agree with the OP, except I think we have only 12 AFL standard players because we'll probably never see much more of Clark, & I'll lower Grimes to questionable and Trengove to a no.
  15. I was near both of you; Southern Stand, ground level, Punt Road end, HFF. Surprisingly, being aged 15, I remember more about talking with a girl, up all night outside the G, waiting in line to buy tickets.
