We need another developing KPF as a possible replacement for Brown and Tmac. I would actually be happy if we picked up 2 of them. I've checked a few of the big footy phantom drafts and Paea wasn't mentioned on the first three rounds. Could we pick this guy up with a later pick?
  3. No real clarity Macca. We are discussing potential options but there is no one who has any inside knowledge of who we are looking at. There seem to be a number of hbf/hff/running mids types that the phantom drafts predict will be taken around our pick that we are discussing but its all just a bit of guess work. Sinn, Chesser, Wilmot, Taylor, Goater, Owen are some of the names we think are in the mix. Besides these players there is a 193cm tall forward JVR from WA who will be around our pick. There is a another thread devoted to him. As for the Ben Brown trade... it technically wasn't Tyson for Brown as it didn't involve exact picks, but it pretty much worked out that way! Tyson for Preuss was probably a slight win for us despite Pruess not playing much. We needed that backup ruck on our list for insurance. As you mentioned Pruess was traded to GWS for second round pick # 31. Brown was received from North along with pick 28 and future fourth rounder. We gave up pick 26, 33 and our future fourth rounder. So essentially it was pick 33 with a few trimmings which I view as Preuss for Brown. An absolute steal for us in hindsight as we really needed another tall forward.
  4. I was wondering where Saty had been.
  5. Such a great tradition. Made much fairer when they tightened the rules to 100 games and bid matching. I feel that the academy selections being so similar in the way they are picked up taints the public perception of the father son process. Looking at the article, there aren't really that many father son selections who go on to be fantastic players. Geelong are the clear standouts picking up Scarlett, Ablett jnr, Hawkins and Nathan Ablett all with 3rd round picks in a short time frame to be part of a premiership team.
  6. I have way more concerns about replacing Ben Brown and Tmac than worrying about May's eventual replacement. All of Tmac, Brown and Weid have a history of injuries which could effect the next couple of seasons. If we go for JVR, I hope he is developed as a fwd.
  7. I said I wouldn't look at these kids pre draft this year but getting pick 17 has sucked me back in. I really, really want Sinn but it looks like he will be gone about 3-7 picks before ours. Wilmont is intriguing as he is so young. 1 day younger and he would be forced to wait till the 2022 draft. Phantom drafts have him around our pick. Reads the play so we'll and could be the long term Hibberd replacement.
  8. May, Lever, Petty, Tomlinson, Smith, Turner. We are looking good. We could potentially use another developing KPD at the 195cm+ size if Jason Taylor thinks there is a talent that slides to a later pick that we simply cannot pass up. I'm keen to see Turner more next year at Casey.
  9. We had given up on Watts as a forward before 2015. He wouldn't have been a factor. Hogan was incredible in his rising star year. Our other key forward was an aging Chris Dawes with support from Pederson. We knew we needed a long term partner for Hogan and picked up Weid and Liam Hulett with pick 46. A key forward at pick 7 made sense with a few good prospects available in Weid, Curnow and McKay.

Glad to know i'm not the only one waiting on stuff. It's been so long that I was starting to get worried.
  11. You know that its time to give up the booze when Werridee is hanging $#!t on you about posting a best 22.

There are a number of posts in this thread suggesting that Howe is this complete [censored] who overrated himself, left the club and never did anything. He left us and really developed into a top line player who not only developed his consistency within games but across entire seasons. He has been at the pies for 6 seasons and from memory has finished in the top 10 in their best and fairest 4 times. He has been injured the other 2 and has been a big loss for the pies. He was a very good player in a great back line for the pies (yes they were) and while he wont get the captaincy, his name is one that would come up in conversation as an option. We weren't the only team who were likely to draft him from obscurity. He had a few clubs that were looking at him. He was named in the 40 man squad for the All Australian in 2017 and was maybe a little unlucky not to make the main team. Yeah, he made a joke about Melbourne having low crowds. It was a dumb joke and was very low hanging fruit. He would have got a good laugh from the Collingwood [censored]. I took it as the joke it was (we did have low crowds FYI, as we had been a complete basket-case for [censored] years) but fully respect that others found it very disrespectful.
  13. Thoughts on Wilmont? Touted around our pick. If he was one day younger he would be in next year's draft. Darcy Wilmont Defender 183cm/75kg 31/12/03 Northern Knights/Vic Metro Wilmot is undoubtedly an eye-catcher: he plays with an aggressive, combative streak out of half-back and takes the game on. The Northern Knights prospect can gallop out of defence and is competitive in the air against opponents who may be bigger and stronger than him at this point of his development. Wilmot is the youngest player in the draft – he turns 18 on December 31 – and he looms as a real top-20 chance next month. https://www.afl.com.au/news/685788/cal-twomeys-phantom-form-guide-top-draft-prospects-october-ranking
  14. He was drafted by Taylor in the same draft as Oliver. I fail to see how he isn't categorised as a recruit of the Taylor era.
  15. I recommend that everyone have a listen to this episode in the podcast. It's basically Burgos story about his time at the Dee's. So much more than what is covered in the article.

Haha! Yes, good point. Is it just me, or does there seem to be a number of mids who seem to have a good burst of pace? Sinn, Butler, Goater. I feel they are all around our first pick but all likely to be gone.

If Andrew is available at 17 I would say [censored] it and gamble that he lasts till 20. Pick up another good kid and then match on Andrew. The only reason I was big on getting Andrew earlier in the year is because we didn't have a first round pick and would be able to match a bid after 20. I would prefer to pick up a mid or KPF with pick 17.
  18. Honestly? I wasn't nervous. We had finished strongly all year. We were in front. They were throwing everything at us and all they could do was slowly cut down our lead. How many times this year did we build a lead and then absorb the opposition momentum when we knew it would come?

Doesn't pass the 'no d!(khead policy'. Absolute [censored] apparently.
  20. I listened to the original story from Campbell Brown on Jonathan Browns new podcast. Sounds like the Bulldogs players really rubbed in the loss in round 19. The rest of it has been covered well in the thread but this part interested me. Campbell Brown from the podcast: "Melbourne and the Doggies played in Round 19 here at the MCG and apparently the Doggies touched them up a bit. Beat em convincingly. It was raining and it got a bit heated, it got a bit personal and after the dogs won, they absolutely gave it to some players from Melbourne and um, they were abusing them and really let them know, you know, what they thought of 'em. Some of these players had played in flags for the Doggies and they were giving it to Melbourne players and the Melbourne players didn't necessary like it too much. Then when they played em in the Grand Final (obviously you know, we know the result there), the one thing that really sparked the Melbourne players was the song that the Doggies played after the Prelim win in the change rooms that got filmed. (Freed from Desire) So, it gave them added motivation, right? There's already animosity there." "So anyway, after the game when Melbourne won it, they played some songs in the change room but then they went out to the middle of Optus stadium and they linked up and sung the Melbourne Theme Song" "Then they played 'Free from Desire' right, and there were a lot of people, like 'Was that in bad taste? Was there something more to it? Or is it just an anthem that people play? Well, they did it to stick it up them"
  21. It means he has played bugger all footy for 2 years now. A year in the system will do him well though.
  22. Awww... nice. I remember his parents posting on here when he was training with us. He may not get drafted to the dees but I'm counting him as one and hope he does well. Best of luck Deak!
  23. Back to the OP. Collingwood have pick 27 (703 points) which is reportedly on the table. Tim Lamb advised during trade week interviews that we would be aiming to move up the draft order as high as we could. We could be on here. I would be pretty happy if we could snare this pick. We currently have: 17 - 1025 Points 37 - 483 points 49 - 287 points 57 - 182 points 94 - 0 points We could look at trading pick 37, 49 and 57 (952 points) for pick 27 (703 Points). Pies have a few late picks not worth anything that we may have to take if the rules about not stacking picks for points apply still but could use one on a smokey/Woey and pass on the other. Without investigating too much further, I imagine another club might be able to trump us in points but I wouldnt be surprised if this happens.
  24. I would argue that we need a developing tall forward more than a ruck but I would like to get 1 of each. You can always pick up a component ruck at trade time if we need decent depth later on.
  25. You don't retire the number 2. Troy's number 20 was put away for a few years which I was happy with.
