  1. Def not arguing the "effort" factor with Dawes either nut. I just think Pedo is more of an X factor when he is on. Defensively i'm not sure he adds a great deal more but on the "attack at ball/and carrier" when it's within his area i just think he is way more dangerous and as you say, likely to kick a few goals a game which is what forwards are supposed to do (along with goal assists etc). While not a great chaser/tackler i also think his tank allows him to cover both ends of the ground a little more (when needed) and take a few more crucial marks around the ground as well.
  2. Let's bathe in the glory of his last game for a few more days at least Clint!
  3. I can't think of anyone else so i guess it'll just have to be BB.... apologies BB
  4. thx D I doubt this type of "buy in a premiership team" will ever be repeated again within Vic clubs although at this very moment we may be seeing it unfold, courtesy of the AFL, at GWS or they might go very close to it. If nothing else it is at least a very inspirational clip scattered with very memorable moments as most premierships no doubt would be
  5. A few interesting key stats from yesterday's win... - Spencil had 40 hit outs. 14 to advantage. An amazing 35% hit rate! Vs Roughhead 21 (3) & Cordy 20 (2). Watts was used as designated 3rd man a few times for 4 (3) ! - We won the clearance count but the doggies scored more from stoppages 6.3.39 vs Demons 2.8.20 - in an amazing turnaround (for us) we scored a whopping 13.4.82 from turnovers vs the Doggies 3.7.29 ! - Pressure Acts (one of the coaches favs!) ... Vanders lead with 26 with H just behind on 24 & our up & coming gun mid fielder, one Mr. B Vince, 3rd with 17. - I cant be sure about previous wins against GCS & the Toiges but we won time in forward half with 53% vs 47%. - Kicking boots were on with an accuracy of 54% vs the Doggies 41%. - We won the "metres gained" by 852 metres. The top 5 contributors were 1. Mr Vince 2. The Jones Boy 3. Grimes 4. Garland 5. Vanders Nice job from the boys. Lets hope they can keep it up. Stats: Courtesy of Champion Data
  6. Looked at home up forward but yes I couldn't understand the banana options in both cases. Needs some advice and also further goal kicking practice. Players can turn this around. I remember a young Yze in his first season. Looked promising but struggled with his goal kicking a little. He turned this around by staying behind after regular training at the junction and practicing for an hour or so after most had left and gone home, even under lights in the deep of winter I recall seeing him do this. The weekend showed a glimpse of the old Howe for mine and the forward line as a whole looked well oiled and better balanced with him playing a "deep" forward role. Marks i30 to 40 are the most valuable in the game. Just needs to work on his kicking decision making vs angle (ie., dont try a banana when a simple drop punt wldve been more effective). If he kicks those 2 goals everyone would be saying how better he looks up forward again. This will come if he and the club work on his decision making and kicking technique.
  7. Pedo actually gets to many more contests and impacts them along with playing the high forward role that Dawes should be doing but doesnt (effectively). Agreed much better combo. Roos tinkers with this at his peril. When ur on a good thing (and its been evident in other matches that our forward structure is better without Dawes)... fricken stick to it!!!!!!!!
  8. Winning the i50 count doesnt mean much if u dont mark/convert very well. Marks i50 PLUS conversion % will win the day, even if ur opponent dominates the i50 stat. U can have the best mid field in the AFL (aka arguably the Hawks) but if u aint marking much i50 or kicking accurately ur toast. Coaches who say kicking practice on goal and adjusting techniques to get an edge on accuracy are over rated/unnecessary at AFL level need a brain transplant. If ur a crap kick at goal as a forward (consistently) u are not a genuine forward and should be playing elsewhere on the ground or just playing... elsewhere (ie, not AFL).
  9. Spencil just might be our man. His tackle numbers were up prior to this obviously but he not only dominated his lessor opponents, he actually took the game on with great flair and attack. He was even hitting up a few leads lace out coming i50. Don't underestimate that game... we dominated the clearances as a result of his effort and great follow up work once the ball hit the ground. Something u could rarely ever say in the last 8 years watching us with a few exceptions when the Jamar/Moloney combo got going. One of the best all round ruck games I've seen from an MFC ruckman since big Jimma was running around. Hats off to Spencil. I seriously had my doubts he could deliver at that level other than in VFL.
  10. Lol Dazzle. In my day I wld never even think of saying such things. Always more polite and considered with something along the lines of "hey u MOFs .. suck on that baby!"
  11. I think the last time I saw a key forward do that in MFC colours it just might have been as far back as hairy Garry! Fricken awesum stuff from 1st year KPF
  12. Didn't the Scorps lose last week with them out? Watts so bad about these NQRs anyway? Other clubs would be licking their chops at the prospect of any of these up and coming stars in their line up!
  13. I can't recall the last time we went through a season without being riddled by injuries. Insert relevant line here relating to former legend of MFC >>>>> "N____ S_____ C______"
  14. if I thought the same about Bail alone I'd be very happy. Unfortunately when I look through the list there's a few more than Bail
  15. the Ox said he's been carrying this for weeks and hence why he'll be rested
  16. I agree with all that with the exception of Howe. If everything else fails, Including the above plan (and at the MFC that's more than likely), then we at least get one highlight a week shown on TV. If we trade him it's more than likely no one will even know we're still in the comp!!!
  17. I probably should've emphasised the word "SHOULD"
  18. How shouldn't be wrestling with a stronger opponent if he is a 3rd stringer deep forward AND we have both Hulk & Dawes taking the opps 2 strongest opponents. Dawes should be the one pushing up and drifitng into the forward 50 as a KP CHF not Howe's role to do that. However, If Hulk/Dawes arent both in the line up together, then I agree Howe would end up being out muscled with the loose man intercepting too often and would be better placed elsewhere. Agreed. Our defence is bleeding an average of 3 plus goals a game more than last year. The present defensive line up (with Howe in it) isnt working. If something is worse and isnt working and you wish to keep the same line up on the park due to lack of options at Casey, at least trial all alternatives over a reasonable time frame so that players can settle and learn their roles and get some confidence/trust in one another. And im not convinced it will work either. Worth a try though as long as its not 1 isolated week where no one, including Howe the other 2 main forwards and our midfield, have a chance to adjust and settle into the new structure.
  19. We are coming up against one of the best at putting pressure on inside their 50 so far this season and converting those opportunities. We are one of the worst, if not the worst, at putting pressure on inside our own 50 and converting. We also force our turnovers of the ball in the deepest defensive section of the ground versus any other team and are the worst at moving the ball up the ground on the rebound. Good luck with trying to post a winning score with that kind of record so far this season. 10 goals might be a pretty decent result for us with the team that's likely to run out. There's a few shining lights in this team though and if we can put a decent mid field together in the next 2 to 3 years we just MIGHT become competitive once more. And with T-Mac & Hulk dominating as book ends.... you just never know from there guys. We might taste success and ultimate glory. This could be our time...but we have to make it happen!!! T-Mac and Hulk are THAT good (potentially)! We must pull out all stops and do justice to them. There's no time like the present and there's no time to waste. We have to go out.....do a repeat of North/Barrasi from the 70s IMO and purchase ourselves a gun mid field ASAP to support the likes of Jones/Tyson/Viney! It's time to trade our way out of the mire and do justice to these 2 "likely" bookend greats ("greats" IF we get it right and support them with a gun mid field that is). I normally wouldn't post a video from an opposition club, but it's very inspirational and we need to seek inspiration from somewhere. Why not from one of our own Demon greats acheiving the ultimate....... http://www.nmfc.com.au/video/2015-05-01/premiership-stars-on-barassi
  20. Howe needs to play deep forward for mine. The opposition would be quite happy for him to attempt his speckies way up the field. No shot at goal possible = no threat. Opposition will play him loose or have a 4th stringer defender on him here. Too easy. Deep forward he becomes a reasonable headache and more than likely attracts their 3rd best defender. Also means that defender is generally starting deep in defence on the rebound. Better for us to commence there vs high half forward. We bleed enough goals from inside our 50/mid field as it is. Ranked 17th/18th in the competition here so far. Same as last season, although we are defending worse from inside 50 and condeceding more points per game. So far we havent acheived any progress this year. Concede more points. And score about as much. Our inside 50 entries are down on last year and our chains of play resulting in inside 50 entries are almost as bad as it gets ranked 17th. Our conversion rate is also horrible and I think we are now ranked last in the AFL for conversion %. Basically we dont have a forward line and are bleeding more points per game than last year. Looking at those 2 most critical book ends... the only conclusion one can draw is that we have regressed as a football team vs last year.... so far (yeh its early days but if we dont win the next 2 matches it is yet again season over).
  21. Luffy King and Harf discussing MFCs progresss or shall we say regression from last year on SEN 1116 now!!
  22. Sandilands is a rare beast as far as ruckman or any AFL footballer goes. But in the ruck there are few that can compete against him other than Nic Nat. A legit strat when up against Freo or the Coasters maybe. Against most other clubs I think u wld be throwing away a potential neutral outcome to give your opponent an unfair advantage, assuming they have a quality ruckman in their team and not a dud.
  23. Django seems to offer sum cred to Sir's allegation guys. If he sooked he sooked. Doesn't matter when. And im not saying he did but u might wanna check your sources. Good luck to Toump but IF he did then it needs to be looked at. Not sure there's room for any nancy boys at this level *edit for spell
  24. I don't think it was ever out of our grasp HH
