Goal kicking - is it the yips or something deeper
T-Mac had a one off very good year last year in his re-creation from a backman to a 'make do' forward. Hogan often taking the opp's No.1 defender and no 666 allowed T-Mac to roam a little more freely inside 50 and offer himself into a few more open spaces on the lead, usually on the Opps No.2 defender. No Hogan means T-Mac is now getting the opp's No.1 and sometimes even being double teamed with no other genuine key forward at present (the Weid obviously out for now). As a result T_mac's ability to take marks inside 50 has dropped roughly 50% (to be exact 45.8%) so far this season vs his 2018 season average... T-mac Ave marks i50 2018 2019 (to Rnd 9) % diff 2.88 1.56 -45.83% In the short term Pruess needs to come in as support for T-Mac up forward playing deep and as a decent foil relief ruckman for Maxy. This will take an extra tall away from the Opp and potentially stop the opp from sending a chop out to T-Mac so often. IF Pruess can start clunking a few and scoring himself this might also force the opp to send their No.1 defender to him occasionaly, freeing up T-Mac a little more often. In addition we need to have a point of difference for the remainder of the season. No more medium talls like Tim Smith pls. Assuming Pruess comes in (and he should!), it's time to go small and if needed blood small with the likes of Lockhart, Chandler, Bedford working in with Jeffy playing deeper forward to crumb front and square and around the packs for the spills off Pruess & T-Mac. Obviously you wouldn't play both Chander and Bedford together and would only want limited game time from both early on to give them a look/taste of AFL. See how they go before deciding whether to persist or not in the short term or send back to Casey if they don't impact. That's 2019. As for 2020 we need to invest in recruiting a genuine key forward and a genuine small who both know where the goals are, can take regular contested marks inside 50, crumb nicely in the case of the small and are both very accurate. Will have to trade our way out to get these two 'must gets' for 2020! We do this AND recruit a genuine outsider with burst speed, skills and finish (think Balta!) to assist Salem on the other wing....and we have ourselves a shot at the big one folks. Premiership window is open.... time to fix the rot up forward, fill the gaps and snatch our first piece of silverware in a mighty long time and our first in the modern era!

Casey Demons v Port Melbourne - Round 7
We need at least one or two champions to come from somewhere D11. Maxy, Clarry & Harmes can't be expected to carry the team for the next 3 to 5 years. There is a lack of genuine pace, outside run and finishing skills coming through at Casey right now. Not only that, the general game plan is just a straight ahead kick it long to a contest/bomb into forward line style. Looking a tad like more of the same at senior level but just worse due to the lessor skill set and talent (to be expected) at this level. Where's the link up overlap / outside run and finishing skills in general as well as finish coming inside 50? Guys on a fast break offering leads at the ball carrier under pressure through half forward? Mobility of forwards to work hard on multiple leads in an attempt to shake opponent and present up in space inside 50 as a free option? A couple of smalls showing promise at the drop like Chandler & to a lessor degree Bedford. Any team that has the outside run / carry with half decent skill set plus some decent forwards with a system plus a decent mid field contested team will do well against Casey's present game style and skill set this year IMO and it's already happening. We are decimated with injuries but you can still have those remaining playing to a decent game style that will be reasonably effective even with a stack of outs. It will also reinforce winning ways / methods and practices for those that might show promise and remain on the list for when/if they make it through to senior level. Casey not only has a depth issue (largely through injuries but also outside of that) but it also has a game style / coaching issue IMHO that will not benefit anyone. Including those coming through IF they make it. Game style, run/link up overlap play, foot skills and finish not great at Casey from what I've witnessed this year so far. More chaos, win the contested, barge through, bomb it in and hope for the best.

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs West Coast
It was obvious to all on the night and should have been a lay down free kick to Smith. Obvious to all except all four umpires who had vision of the incident. No other players were involved in the play yet no umpire called the dangerous tackle (or at worst a ball up as he had no chance to dispose the ball with both arms clearly pinned)...

Umpires hate Melbourne
Over 15 years of data clearly confirms a bias out west for the Coasters, who are sitting as the number one free kicked team by a country mile. Sure someone has to be at the top...but to be a massive 64.3% ahead of their nearest rival the Kangas is a massive difference in anyone's language! And the argument "it's a home town issue get over it this happens in all other sports"...uh nup not by that differential it doesn't. And besides that can't be the case, with the Dockers sitting a lowly 3rd last! Something's smelly @West Coast and i smell a rat....or two!

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs West Coast
You saw alot more and alot more earlier than i did DV but yes old Fritschkreig flopped in that play and was generally very ordinary last night. Apart from not playing him down back, Goody needs to get him into the gym and build up some core & leg strength between now and 2020. Too easily pushed off the ball and off balance right now. Sorry to hear about the health issue there and my best wishes with that side DV ✌?

Umpires hate Melbourne
Dworship we should do the same ....D'land petition to both the club and the AFL requesting that these two cheats are removed from ever umpiring a game involving the Eagles.

Stats-file 2019
Player / Team Stats Form Guide Rnds 7 to 9, 2019 vs Season 2018 In a team sense we have edged closer to our 2018 form in the last three weeks (-11.40%) vs Rnds 4 to 6 where we were down by 16.79%. Still a fair way off 2018 though.

Umpires hate Melbourne
It's not in the AFL's interest to ensure the game is umpired fairly to offer an even competition RTG. It is now a very big business and the AFL are out to ensure their brand is being grown and protected in the preferred manner / direction required to maximise profits. The Eagles are no doubt high on their brand priority list. We are probably sitting somewhere in their bottom four.

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs West Coast
There was a moment late in the 3rd DV where we went to a very shallow zone on their kick in. They were able to pick their way through it with ease and push into their 50 for an easy goal. Where was our usual higher press with protection (sweeper) out back??? Was this an instruction from the FD or did we fall into some sort of slack period (mentally/physically?) letting the Eagles off the hook defensively?

POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs West Coast
IMO the energy used to barn storm our 50 in the first three quarters was pretty much all we had left in the tank ABG. Unfortunately we didn't put the score on the board by that point and as Goody said we left the door open and they had a little more left in the tank. I also noticed at one point (mid way through the 2nd quarter or so) we had already used 37 interchange vs their 30. This may have caught up with us later in the match and the Eagles might have had a few spare to press a late advantage here.

Casey Demons v Port Melbourne - Round 7
Port cleaner on the outside and a little quicker. Kick the ball low and in front of leading forwards who work hard to find front position or get loose. Casey fumbling alot today and have lacked run, link up play and clean ball use on the outside or finish coming inside. Not many targets to try and hit up though. Port have gotten on top around the contest in the 2nd half also lead by their ruckman and Lang (??) for the most part. Wouldn't risk Lever for these remaining minutes.

nice pressure by Wags to force the ball in there in Port's forward flank

Casey Demons v Port Melbourne - Round 7
Lefau nearly marked that one running away from the kick in and not even looking at the ball drop with hands in the air looking to spoil ! That would have been an amazing mark

Casey Demons v Port Melbourne - Round 7
Nice work by Chandler for that one. Lefau pretty clean so far with a turn of pace. Don't mind the look of him.
