Jones was quiet in the first half but certainly got going in the 2nd with some clutch pieces of play, tackles and reasonable finish with that goal which was the catalyst that sparked everyone into "we can win this mode". Jones looks much more at home across HF but can still pinch hit inside in short bursts through the mid field also which is handy. I've said this many times before though... play BOTH chunk & Viney through the middle in the same center bounce at your peril. When Viney is out (albeit unfortunate for us / him) they can't both be in there which is a huge win for our mid field balance IMO. The only correction with Jones at HF is if he marks anywhere near 50 he really needs to lay off to someone lateral (or handball) to somone who can roost it from the arc more effectively. Either that or try and hit a short lead up target. Is still lifting the team (at times) and leading by example. True Grit personified! Thanks again Cap!

Ok.... watched the replay with an eye on Billy. Apart from one coughed up ground hard ball get in the last quarter, couldn't really fault his game. Played a fair amount of time off a wing on Smith & also running with $cullduggery inside at center bounces and pretty much halved most of those contests while doing some good work both inside (pressuring and competing for contested a little) and outside. On review, my initial impressions that he coasted on one or two occasions when the opp had possession was incorrect, more likely taking space or in a rolling sweeper role (on a couple of occasions) defensive side of stoppages. Only my amature opp but a very serviceable solid game from Billy without hitting any heady heights.

Demon's 3rd qtr v Hawks reignites season.
Demon Dynasty replied to Lou C. Fur's topic in Melbourne Demons
Match fitness improving for sure. Some run happening, Goody dropping the crazy high press and playing a plus one behind the ball early to stop an early run on occurring. Putting more players into roles that enhance and utilise their strengths a little more such as Salem to a wing. Tracc into the middle after half time was important, getting him involved and creating a little more space and mobility in the forward 50 for Hunty and others to lead into. Have to persevere with this! Getting more balance with the inside/outside structure around stoppages and as a result players not getting sucked into the ball as much and more effectively covering the opps fat outlet options. Turnovers down 18% from the previous week also a huge help. Players starting to run forward of the footy and others looking for them on the clearances as confidence grew was a great sign also. Can't recall seeing much of that so far this season. Some starting to bring great 2nd efforts more often, like Harmes, Chunk and Jeffy (late, pressuring inside 50 for the critical turnover close to goal). Downside is there's still a fair number of players well off their usual standard (not even their best) from 2018. Lots of work still ahead to get many of them back somewhere near their 2018 form but nonetheless, a great result against the arch enemy. -

Sharing the role a little can't hurt but while he's still rehab why not take the bulk of it. He's a natural. Agree possibly a solid leader. Would just like to see him out on the park playing some good footy for us for a few seasons first though.

Pretty sure he said via the VFL... roughly 4 weeks or so.

This was Hunts best game up forward IMO. Had my doubts he was going to make it in that role but amazing what a nice kick coming i50 can do (Melk). Very important Melk plays mostly higher up the field, even off the wing at times, from here. That kick was sublime and he's hit a few of those this year from outside 50. With the Flash on the move the eyes of those up field must be lighting up also, giving them a real target to hit up instead of the bail out far too often. Lockhart and hopfully a more mobile Jeffy will also provide some options on the move. Lowering eyes more often and hitting up targets should offer more space out the back for Tommy & Pruess also. Flying the flag on Scicily was a beauty as well. Hopefully they play a replay of that when showing some of the great run down tackles in the review.

Lever also confirming no rift between Macca and anyone at the club. Much loved by the group.

Steven May joining the main group in a week or two according to Lever on 7 just now. Says it was a tough week at the club and there was a change up in the style/strat/method. Can't recall the exact wording.

Pruess is starting 22 right now IMO. Offers something the opp will find difficult to counter up forward and they'll need to play a tall which means one less tall marking option up field / down the line etc (assuming they have the match up playing in the team at the time). Relieves Maxy from forward ruck duties allowing us to run the wall more effectively and keeps him a little fresher generally, potentially more effective. The opp may also need to bring in another tall just to cover Pruess which might throw their balance and structures out a little elsewhere. Potentially good for us also. Gives us a dangerous deep option for Jeffy, Lockhart and Hannan (when back) to play off front and square and out the back on a fast flat ball coming in. With the odd few exceptions (eg; yesterday's weather) he is a must in the 22 IMO. We now have some small forwards pressuring and getting more ground ball. Pruess is a real point of difference and an X factor for us on game day from here.

Nothing that really stood out for me. I find Stretch often goes under the radar for me anyway. Playing safe around the back maybe? Memory isn't great though and going to watch the match to refresh also. From what i recall in one or two passages he was coasting a little when we didn't have the ball. Needed to use his leg speed and close down more quickly to put pressure or at least perceive pressure on the ball carrier nearby. Letting them off the hook a little. Lacking a bit of intensity defensively? Might have been alot better than my recollection. Time to check replay.

Jordan Lewis is absolutely cooked, never pick him again
Demon Dynasty replied to DeeSpencer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Had a mixed day, mostly an off one unfortunately. Looks like a fitness issue at this point and seems to be treading water going at about 55% of last year's usual output. Might need to be managed a little when Nev returns. Threaded the needle a few times with a change of direction coming out of the square to get us some great ground position but offered very little else unfortunately. 4 Premierships, a B&F and All Australian. Proud to have Jordy at our club, providing leadership and direction to a very inexperienced backline. I trust he will know IF/when it's time. P.S. Jordy should be on the D'land banner ....in place of May who's done zip for this club so far (assuming that IS May in the middle). -
In: Pruess (if fit) Out: Omac Keilty play's Omacs usual role Simples
