  1. Could be applied to any comment that infers a glimmer of hope surrounding any player or the MFC itself this season EO. A 'fits all' gif!
  2. Might take a few crows scalps off with low flying worm burners though!
  3. A combination of both for mine. We don't have this as part of out game style unfortunately. For as long as we don't we will struggle to make regular finals appearances or be a serious flag contender. Ball control and possession / slow play is critical in today's ballistic running via the AFL's insane interchange system. A big part of our issues lie with recruiting fails and depth issues. Agreed, the full time chaos method is not sustainable, neither for four quarters or the season. Opposition teams regularly going on a scoring run/blitz, with little or no resistance, for chunks of a game is the obvious sign of the effect of doing so far too often for too long. Probably also impacting the amount of turnovers. IMO we will continue to struggle while Goody chooses to ignore the above and instead just soldiers on.
  4. It's been a rookie amature coaching stint all year BBP. Too stubborn, too slow to react with game style/structure on game day, too slow to change up a high press that we could not enforce and bleeding goals out the back, playing slow players in postions that require speed and too many bog ordinary mind baffling selections. Spargo last week ahead of Pruess, then watching Spargo play at FF on Davis for a stint, was the tipping point for me.
  5. I haven't seen enough of Finlayson to form an opinion other than on Sunday Moon. Certainly appears to have his kicking boots on in front of goals though. Cameron in would obviously be a great coup and would more than make up for Hogan in our forward stakes.
  6. Bit of a selfish footballer who drank his own bath water too often Moon. He also never flew the flag for his mates on the odd occasion it was needed and the solid pack/one on one marking pretty much disappeared after the first season. He was very handy around the ground, especially intercept and contested marking through mid field, which is sadly lacking this season. But after playing as a high HF for a year or so (no doubt under instruction) completely forgot what he was recruited for in the first place and how to play as one (when it was asked / needed).
  7. Pretty sure they will retain Coniglio DV. They were never going to lose all three of their star trio, Kelly, Coniglio & Cameron. Cameron is still up but even if he decides to take a mad offer elsewhere i doubt it would be us after this year's debacle and Sunday's bog ordinary performance.
  8. Spot on He is presently the best Key Forward in the comp and worth every cent. Tom Boyd wasn't and got paid mega dollars on a long term deal (heavily front ended) and helped to win a premiership for the team with the longest drought who then passed the baton to us! Weid has, until this point, shown nothing to suggest he will be a contender going forward. Trade bait at the moment and frees up room for an expensive Cameron deal. Foresight! Yes yes yes.... memberships up and sponsors would be happy. Maybe even more prime time TV coverage. The AFL could NOT ignore the best forward in the comp complimented by a very competitive outfit around him with the capability of knocking over anyone at any time! MFCSS but well earned neita. We are well overdue snaring a big fish in his prime and the other clubs always pinch them. Some have pinched them from under our noses over the decades. Our turn! Go for broke we are in a narrow premiership window, it won't last. The likes of Cameron may not come up again for another 3 to 5 years and by that stage we will likely be in a re-structuring phase under Goody or maybe a rebuilding phase (yet again) under a brand new coach if we stuff this window up. And we will probably miss the next opportunity for a big trade deal in a similar window to this (if one arises!). Then we'll be 60 plus years in the wilderness and might fall off a cliff once more! Risk for reward! So, offer him $1.25 mill or something he can't ignore Wells, mostly front ended. Hogan was not a gun Key Forward IMHO Wiz. More of a part time decoy Key Forward (who forgot how to play that role in the way you would normally expect a Key Forward to play it) playing a wandering high forward role which occasionally also saw him drifting across HB to help out. More a tall utility than a gun Key Forward. But yes if he wasn't home sick and no issues keeping Hogan would have been nice. Trade the Weid instead.
  9. One of our must gets to snag one in the near term Chook. Couldn't agree more
  10. AMEN LH. Again my question is ....when does Goody wake up to this reality? Will we be sitting here this time again next year discussing this very issue once most of the injury concerns are no longer being used as a veil?
  11. Cameron's up in 2020. If we aren't going after this bloke we have a screw loose...
  12. That was your chance yeater! Thanks for the update and braving a pretty crap morning
  13. Exhausting and taxing on an already ploddish mid field LH. Could not agree more with this. 1 or 2 quarters at most. Start the game with chaos sometimes. Other times play a slow play possession style to start. Pick your teams with which to do so as well. The Giants had to be slow possession played a la the Hawks to counter their silky skills on the sling shots off HB. Yet there we were bringing more of the same play on chaos as always. Predictable as it gets. Also playing our slowest off either wing early was also a very poor move with 666 in play and in general play. Goody's philosophy here seems to be we are either going to crash through or crash playing OUR way, the "Melbourne Brand", regardless of what method / style our opponent brings. This works when most of our best 22 are on the field and fitness/conditioning is right. Neither was / is the case. And as you say LH it is just not a sustainable way of playing the game or suited to all situations. If you gain a decent lead you also need to possess and slow everything down to eat up the clock. Protect your lead or ice the quarter or match. Chaos does not offer that UNLESS most of the best are on the park and in VG form! The injuries this season tests a coaches ability to adapt under severely changed circumstances. Unfortunately for Goody that change up didn't occur until the match against the Hawks and by then we were too far behind the eight ball on the W/L count to gain any traction and a bit of breathing room. Season over. The question is how long, if at all, will it take for Goody to wake to this reality and adapt / change and drill / train for a completely different game style and focus on skills skills skills which are killing us. He has a great opportunity to do this and have the boys practice it under live conditions in this 2nd half of the season. A great opportunity! Especially with some decent stock returning slowly. Then there's the recruiting which is another subject / factor altogether. The make up / mix at the moment is a huge fail, anywhere forward of HB with a few exceptions. Personel / list needs a significant overhaul.
  14. Excellent Males. You have to wonder why we are playing on so often WITHOUT ASSESSING beforehand! IMO this is one of so many fails under Goody. Add to this our woeful disposal skills, where we are now ranked the worst in the competition (DE%) and the lack of break away / burst speed by so many in general including the mid field (Harmes the lone exception). Recruiting another! Recruiting too many one paced plodders through mid field and off HB/HF (Wags bros, Lewis, Spargo, Tracc, Maynard to name a few) who are very good at the coal face (see ball get ball) but generally pretty average at escaping from congestion/working back to cover their man or space in defence and ordinary disposal skills (especially mid fielders) is now coming back to haunt us. Other teams know this and know that if they bring the pressure one on one at the ball carrier we will play on most of the time and then (too easily vs the rest of the comp) miss a target either by hand or foot or just give it straight back. Rated the 3rd worst here behind the Power and the Dockers in turnovers. Playing on without assessing then turning it over is also the worst situation for us. With a generally slow plodding team that then finds itself forward of the footy and unable to get back quickly enough to fill space or pick a loose opponent up in time to cover the rebound. Goody finally recognised this post the Swans match with the 10 day break and adjusted to ensure we didn't push as high with our zoning/press and always had a spare deep to cover. Our forward system as highlighted by many already is also crap. There was a classic bit of (rare) decent play in the first half on Saturday where we managed a rare sling shot link up off HB, had someone coming through the middle under pressure, yet all forwards ran away from him towards goal. It was so predictable i was yelling at the time "someone run at him and offer a bloody lead". Sure enough the bail out kick fell short & shallow just inside 50. The quicker Giants were able easily mop up, with some playing in front reading the play better, and that was the end of that rare foray/opportunity! And as much as i love Clarry he has alot to answer for with many of those handballs. Alot of them are lightning handballs to a ghost player just for the sake of handballing/disposing. Might be the two shoulder surgeries playing subconsciously here rather than taking the tackles a little more often as per pre-surgery but that's pure speculation. There are so many aspects to our methods that don't hold up with a mark play on scenario. Then again even if we weren't doing this so often we would probably still be struggling given the above.
  15. Lewis's response after hearing the seniors' score in the 3/4 time time huddle at Willy...
  16. Yes it might be time to update that given we're another 10 rounds in. I doubt we would see any improvements and have probably regressed further in some areas Kent. There's been a fitness conditioning 'off' smell about most of the group all year. Something seems amiss other than just off season surgeries for those that had them.
  17. Not bad although I'm not sure VDB will be around CJK. Spargo, ANB and Petty questionable even as depth for mine. Would be trading those out if possible along with others who dont quite cut the mustard. Jones will not be playing as depth. He either takes a major role as a HF (minor through the middle) in a slight resemblance to Ablett with the rest of the time on the bench or he probably hangs them up. Trade the first three, Cwags and other NQRs (and there's a few) for... > a genuine Key Forward who can take contesteds, is also mobile on a lead and can kick straight a la Cameron. > a genuine powerful small forward with crumbing & finishing skills who brings solid pressure i50 and also offers a marking option into space once in a while. > A classy outside run & carry with great burst speed who can finish coming inside (might be Baker given enough time & development). > Similar to the last option but more an inside / outside mid (eg; a better more agile more powerful version of Gus who can find a target inside 50).
  18. Np worth a one off fling Buck. Unfortunately as you say, the first usual method was more robust at reflecting the difference in form of both teams coming in. What i learned from method B is we aren't a very good possession team (vs the Hawks) and Goody isn't Clarkson. And two weeks is a long time in footy let alone one! Clarkson the master at finding ways to defeat a tricky opponent on odd days. I'm not sure why Goody didn't at least try and utilise what Clarko revealed against the Giants. Nor the Port match against the Eagles (dirty flat quick ball method coming inside 50). We also lacked any sort of intensity required (defensively) that the Hawks probably brought at the ball carrier when they didn't have possession against the Giants. Was as feeble a 2.5 quarters as I've seen since approx 2015. We regressed badly in this regard, yet again.
  19. Player / Team Stats Form Guide To Round 10, 2019 vs Season 2018
  20. if it's not too late ... very hard to post early with a clear head after that one... 6. Maxy 5. Hore 4. Harmes 3. Baker 2. JWags Couldn't find another i'm afraid.
  21. Feel free to let me know where next time... i might know a guy who can get the job done
  22. Given the year we've had i'd rather he didn't!
  23. Sue this is critical stuff. Surely this helps somewhat with understanding the culture that made us who we are today!?? And besides, it does involve the use of ankles ?
  24. I recall some of the pack marking but the goals were very sketchy so that might explain it Wells ty. My most vivid memory as a kid was the last second chugging of a shortish stick..just before the siren and stomping the butt into the ground as it went off before the first bounce.
