?? Belief Confidence in self / team mates & Coach's methods / mantra gets chipped away, little by little, with each loss. Especially consecutive losses and more so with younger / rookie (sub 50 gamers) team members. Season's finish sooner, even some senior players can lose their mojo in a depressing environment bringing on early retirements or trade outs etc. Winners are grinners and the sponsors, fans, ratings, extra friday night appearances, increased memberships, improved bottom line, better facilities, better calibre of players looking to get on board ...will follow (barring a major stuff up) as the wins accrue.

With Spargo and Omac out the confidence in the forward/defensive make up should improve a little and we should start seeing a few decent wins in the back half R&B. Pitty about Lever & Hibb though. Pruess will eventually need to come in for Tommy in order to see us really fire up up forward IMO. Aside from some pretty poor stoppage structure outside, lack of tempo slow play, forward half zone method and bog ordinary skill levels generally, i reckon mids & defenders have done ok. Hopefully Rawlings likes Pruess a tad more than Goody and allows him a few games in this 2nd half to see what he might have to offer before seasons end.

He had enough acid dropped by about round 7/8 DD. Goody would have been better to have taken some pressure OFF with a 2 to 3 week stint at Casey IMO (or longer if needed ie; if showing little or no improvement there as well). A bit more time and space to find his mojo/form again and return once he had a few runs behind him and a bit of confidence (marking/leading/goals being scored etc at Casey and belief returning).

The entire forward line, aside from a few cameos from Hunt and opportunist goals from Jeffy, is the real issue DS. Genuine goal kicking KPF & small crumber (or two) needed for 2020 and beyond. Personally i don't believe either of T-Mac or Weid will be the top end answer either. Weid the better longer term keeper of the two (just), subject to bringing in a genuine marking/goal kicking key forward to take the No.1 mantle and opp's best defender. Fix this at the trade table and we just might return to finals at some point in the next year or two. Don't and we are in for more years bouncing along the bottom or just missing them IMO. Assuming we get a few wins (3 to 4 or so) in the back half, im hoping Goody (and the entire club) don't get complacent and see this as a sign that the line changes (et al) were the answer & all is rosey and on track for a successful run at 2020 onwards. I believe they (we) will be sadly disappointed if so and many careers of some very good talented players will again be wasted with yet another rebuild / reno needed afterwards due to a sub-par forward line up that is just incapable of kicking a winning score often enough against quality oppostion. The premiership window is still slightly ajar for a brief time IF Goody and Co. take a big reality check at year's end, have a super solid draft/trade period and a much needed list review including a significant clean up of some dead wood, especially up forward. Goody also needs to add a tempo / possession option to the trick bag and dump the 'low/no pressure' forward half zoning insanity IMO. Some exciting, leading, pack marking forwards & crumbing smalls (with speed/forward pressure) needed! Lockhart might be one shining light here on the small crumbing side given a few more pre-seasons. Hannan & Hunt worth another look in 2020 especially Hannan injury free (we hope!). But both will need a solid season to justify their places beyond that IMHO.

Or maybe some just aren't very good at what they do or did Junk. If this second half of the year is also a flop, and im not saying it will be, then we might see a broom through a few at season's end. I suspect a few that were shifted away from their first half roles wil go anyway, even if we do see turnaround. No doubt a few players also and a few more if it flops.

Cheers Dimmy. I wish we were talking about a mostly good news year. Seen so many ugly ones and the negativity does grate at times. There's been a few positives from particular players this season but as a team performance what a massive fall it's been off the high of last year. And let's not go near the poor result up forward. Hopefully the review changes and the break will see a few more wins. Rooke out for Rawlings might be the circuit breaker needed to finally see some results up forward for all the good work being done elsewhere (outside of too many ordinary entries). I personally feel Goody will also need to decouple himself from a few rusted on 'out of form' & NQR players (and bring in the likes of Pruess & Lockhart), add a tempo / slow play possession option and a pretty big clean out at year's end for us to have a realistic chance of playing finals in 2020 and beyond.

If we start double teaming Hogan it will be time to review the defensive line coach.

For us or the entire AFL? If MFC then this is the season rankings so far on averages... Same but on recent form, Rnds 10 to 12 (number of games in parentheses....single game players excluded as not an average)...

Both our captains tend to lead by example rather than on-field vocal coaching types a la Lewis & Hodge. And unfortunately, with the exception of Jones on a few occasions only, neither has been able to lead by example!
