These threads keep seeming to turn into And another thing...

Part of it is that you'd see first-round draft picks more likely to be based on need rather than best available. So you'd have the better kids drop further down the draft anyway, because the reality is you're not going to burn 10 consecutive #1 draft picks (for example) on 10 identical midfielders - there's simply no point. So you might have a couple of mids go, then a forward etc. Kids who announce their intentions regarding the go-home factor (example being NicNat) are far less likely to go interstate if they're good enough I think, as clubs will be aware. The only issue is if it were implemented tomorrow what would happen regarding Port.

Different solution: First round of draft picks allocated by who has waited the longest to win a premiership. Thus (assuming Collingwood win the flag): 1. Western Bulldogs 2. Melbourne 3. St Kilda 4. Richmond 5. Fremantle 6. Carlton 7. Adelaide 8. North 9. Essendon 10. Brisbane 11. Port 12. Sydney 13. West Coast 14. Hawthorn 15. Geelong 16. Gold Coast 17. GWS 18. Collingwood When you win the flag, you drop to the bottom. Takes any temptation out of the system at all.

Assuming you're giving out 6-1 every week, Watts has won it already.
-
ALSO***** OUT: Green IN: Bail (if fit) - stuff Casey, straight back to the firsts
-
Depends though. Is LJ playing tomorrow at Casey? See how he travels? He may actually be being rested.
-
God we need him back. It's been really noticeable since he went down how the opposing top class mids have been a class above. Why? Because Bail is the first choice tagger and does a sensational job. See Goddard vs St Kilda, Judd vs Carlton (twice), Wellingham vs Collingwood (Bail would have taken him that day, McKenzie destroyed Pendles), Cooney vs Dogs. Here's hoping he plays against West Coast and does a job on Priddis or Kerr.

Thing with the VFL/SANFL/WAFL is that the best - Mzungu, Duigan, JPod, Barlow to name a few - have mostly already been raided. The rest are there because they're not AFL standard. The power forward is the right idea, but the mid is not likely. Personally I reckon we're okay. Sylvia out, Bail out, Jack Viney to come and you forgot about Jordie McKenzie.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe we have both the highest average winning margin and the highest average losing margin right now for the 2011 season. I know we have the latter, we did certainly have the former but not sure if we still do.
-
Yes, that Cook. I know, I know. But why not, seriously? The game is a virtual write-off. Although possibly LJ instead.

6 - Watts 5 - Macdonald 4 - Trengove 3 - Dunn 2 - Garland 1 - Martin
-
Out: Strauss, Bate, Tapscott (if still concussed) In: Nicholson, Cook, Warnock (if Tappy doesn't come good) Warnock for Lynch.
-
The Good Watts Dunn, apart from his goalkicking Seeing a bit of biff Another game into them (you know I'm struggling when) Joel Macdonald (Someone explain why he isn't an immediate starting 22 player?) Getting #35 on my Melbourne jumper The Bad The goalkicking The second quarter The watching of the Geelong-GC margin in the second quarter and hoping it wouldn't be that bad Green Davey Bate The Ugly Strauss Tapscott Injuries, injuries everywhere by all accounts The Carlton midfield walking all over us Mitch Robinson The 5-year-old Carlton supporters swearing their heads off at me on the way to Richmond station

First Saturday in 4 months that I haven't worked. Somewhat appropriately, I took annual leave, meaning I'm technically being paid to watch Melbourne play footy...after last weekend maybe it's deserved! Can't wait.

Maximus Gawnius He's BAAAACCCKKK...... Hell yes. Was hoping he'd get another couple of games this year.
-
MAXIMUS RETURNS HELL YEAH

Simple way to deal with tanking: allocate the first round of draft picks based on the team which has waited the longest to win the flag. GWS/GC/Freo go off year of creation. Thus: 1. Western Bulldogs 2. Melbourne 3. St Kilda 4. Richmond 5. Carlton 6. Fremantle 7. North 8. Essendon 9. Brisbane 10. Port Adelaide 11. Sydney 12. West Coast 13. Geelong 14. Hawthorn 15. Collingwood 16. Gold Coast 17. GWS

Dees by 27. Mostly because Todd will give them all a massive kick up the arse!

I'm on the border of Gen X and Y and I agree with this assessment.
-
I wonder, if it IS Mercedes...$1.9mil/year plus an advertising deal with Tom worth $300k/year?
-
Gotta wonder (and the point has been made by journos too before you call me a cold bastard) whether the footy club is literally killing him. The stress, especially of last weekend...
-
Terrible, terrible news.
-
It's a fair point I guess. Think Kaspersky have a long-term deal for the back, so it's got to be for the front of the jumper... Long as it's not a betting company, I don't think after Daniel Bell and Theo the club should do such a thing morally. Yes, dollars and cents, but...

Dean Laidley's 'interview' on AFL 360 tonight
Striker475 replied to jumbo returns's topic in Melbourne Demons
He got a [censored] list in a [censored] situation to a preliminary final and consistent finals series. He was told by the board that, despite the fact that he was of the opinion that the list needed to bottom out and start again, there just wasn't the funds available for the Roos to do so - to make such a move a la Carlton, Melbourne would have literally sent the Roos broke. So he went the other way, pushed for finals for acclaim and to get the coffers up. Then, when the cracks in the list really shone through, he was forced out for not being good enough. -
Still love it, not letting current events change it.
