We have had some bright sparks. Admittedly this was written yesterday, very tempted to reduce it to a 4.

He does try. If you watch him closely, a lot of the times he gets caught out close (which, by the way, isn't much anymore) it's because he's doing those things. He's trying to do the big-bodied full forward stuff - the pushing away of the other bloke, the hard at it marks. He just doesn't have the upper body on him still. One more preseason. One more and I reckon he'll be roaring.

I do at the minute. Every contest he shirks, every contested ball he loses, every possession he fumbles just compounds the issue. Natural improvement should have set in to an extent by now, but if anything he's gone backwards. And for a #4 draft pick...

Look, you may be right. If he stays, bulks and has a great year next year, I'll happily eat my words. Right now though, he's an absolute liability and I cringe every time he touches the thing - and even when he doesn't if he's one-on-one.

Sponsors - $6mil over 3 years is nothing to sneeze at. A clean slate - To an extent really. As of the end of October, we'll have no coaching drama, no Tom Scully drama, none of that. We've gotten lots of the hoopla out of the way early. Smashings - Always feels good to [censored] Freo. The Bad Smashings - Not just referring to THAT game, but also Hawks rd2, North, West Coast. We've been belted regularly. Murmurings - Beyond the stuff that was plastered across the newspapers, we've had the Sylvia rumours with Sydney, the tragic Wonna situation, Carro firing up the 'old boy's club' burner. These sort of things don't do great for the club. Losing to Richmond - I'll never hear the end of it. The Ugly That Game. - Need I mention which one I am referring to? The fallout from That Game - Suddenly every tiny little Melbourne rumour was taken as fact and it was the sinking ship. You want a sinking ship, go look for the one painted black, white and teal. The Tom Scully Situation - Firstly, don't turn this into another TS thread - we have our third dedicated thread in 3 months on it. Nevertheless, it has been a continually ugly part of our year. What they need to do: - Remove any betting activities being broadcast at games. MCG is doing this, AFL need to make sure Collo does at Darklands too. - Prevent clubs from receiving new sponsorships from gambling organisations. Contracts which have already been entered into are to be honoured, but no club is to enter into a new contract. - Remove odds from the AFL website during matches. - Discourage the media from broadcasting any betting odds on TV/radio both within, say, half an hour of game start (the point the AFL takes over the coverage on the web) as well as throughout and after the game. Course, I'm probably dreaming aren't I? I'm still for the 'exotic' bets (eg first goal) to be done through the agencies, simply because at least then it can be tracked.

That's the extent of what I've heard. The year 'off' has done him good and he's raring to go again. Probably to do with the MFC list being suited and playing the way he had Geelong set up (although nowhere near as well) too.

Okay, yes, it's a more typical rumour of the 'I've heard' variety. But the man involved makes it all the more interesting. Bomber wants back into a senior coaching gig. (Related point - is it about time we just had a coaching megathread along the same lines of the TS megathread?)
