I'm shattered. This is the worst I have felt in years. We had it all to play for Saturday. Win and you're in. And once again the players crap the bed. Some stood up. Most didn't. They just didn't want it or thought they could crap it in. And when they realised it was slipping, they panicked. Two goals. Closest miss in VFL/AFL history. Only Melbourne. This one will take me a while I think. This is worse than 186. All I wanted was another final.

Just on the rough disposal that everyone is mentioning, I kind of think it's a good sign. Remember, these guys have been training together for months and some for years. They understand each others' patterns and plays. If the disposal is rough it generally means the pressure is immense, partly because they all know what they're going to do before they even do it. For example, Hunt at the intraclub last year. You could see what he was trying to do all day but it wasn't coming off because the other guys knew where he was going to run and move to. Eight weeks later he's setting the league on fire because the opposition isn't ready for those tricks.

Are people kidding? Mark Neeld took over a side that, while admittedly flawed, still won 8 games and drew another at the end of 2011. In the following three seasons, it has only won 2 more total than in that 2011 season. He got rid of so many of the top players simply because of coaching disagreements, when the list clearly wasn't in a position to support it. He would make mistakes with his management decisions, then refuse to concede the mistakes. He holds the fourth-worst coaching record of the last 30 years. 2 of the coaches who were worse were at Fitzroy in 1995-96.

At this point he'd be a rookie pick. With Harmes so far the only confirmed keeper right now we have minimum two free slots. Wouldn't be opposed in the RD.

The footy knowledge thing strikes me as well. I remember Roos saying around his appointment that Tyler was going through all the film for Melbourne and putting together a list projection. Roos hadn't even taken the job yet. He isn't going to push for 2015 selection, but a rookie slot and let him get into an AFL fitness regime, along with his footy knowledge...could be something special.

I guess the other good thing is maybe Channel 7 will actually groom some talent broadcasting the VFL rather than just go 'oh this is a footballer who's retired, they can commentate'.
