Liam Jurrah interview on Eddie Maguire 11/3/12
Striker475 replied to P-man's topic in Melbourne Demons
Couple of things: - On the interview front, Eddie screams hypocrisy right now. If it was Didak following the gun incident, Shaw after the gambling or the drunken incident or any other Collingwood player with any other journo, he'd be screaming bloody murder. - On the Jurrah playing front regarding the court case, it's a first court date. Taking a case as serious as this to trial can take a very long time. For a comparison, look at the Andrew Krakouer case. Krakouer's assault was December 2006. He was delisted October 2007, and his court case wasn't until early 2008. - Finally, I just want to wash my hands of this until we get a case here on 'land. Over on BF I've been defending the club's decision not to dump him immediately, but beyond that speculation is going to get us absolutely nowhere, plus the implications for what is a pending court date could affect jury members or the case of either the prosecution or the defence. I implore others to not comment on the case in a public forum such as this, as you risk impeding the course of justice. -
Liam Jurrah's return to training

Why they didn't use green and white for GWS is beyond me, it's a great colour scheme -
Jim, I'll trade you Picken for Trengrove
-
Also taking offers for $cully, Thomas, Fraser and any of the bench players.
-
Yes, first round is Round 2, and we are not playing in the byes.
-
Really happy with my team. This should be good.
-
let's get it on
-
if anyone picks Jurrah they're a silly bugger in my book use ya head, not ya heart Also quote from top of league page: 'A link to enter your Live Draft will appear here 15mins before the commencement of the draft.'
-
Nar, it works. Especially for you - remember you're not picking every minute. It'll be 15mins until whoever has pick 16 gets to make a call. That said, speeding it up in the later rounds often works a treat. Any sneaky ideas as to who will be going #1?
-
Just as a footnote, I felt bad as a Melbourne supporter in Kmart the other day, where the other nine Vic teams' jumpers were all on show, but no MFC.
-
Full-strength Hawthorn lineup setting themselves up for a tilt at a flag. Seriously. Not going to lose sleep - only just checked a score to be honest because that is how little I cared about this game.

Liam Jurrah: charged, on bail and discussion closed for now
Striker475 replied to dee-luded's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just going to wade in to wish Liam all the best. Apart from that, to speculate on an ongoing court case is a silly idea, particularly on a public forum where it is possible that members of a future jury could have access to all sorts of speculation that doesn't have a basis in fact. -

I'm shattered. Innocent until proven, but if proven... -
You know what? I might just be out postering April 20.

If it was a non-indigenous player I'd agree to a point. An injured player should be completing all his rehab to the point of attaining match fitness as soon as possible, as well as participating in the LTI program that Misson and the FD have developed to build their game plan awareness (if required). However, if they are able to achieve all targets set by the FD and have something of a holiday at the same time I am happy for them to be allowed to head away. If however, they wished to have a holiday and take time away from it while injured, I'm of the belief that it should come out of their leave; if they are out of leave then they must go unpaid. But I truly believe that indigenous players need to be allowed leeway. The cultural differences, their idea of family and community is fundamentally different to the ideas most of us of non-indigenous background have. While I know I cannot speak for anyone else on this site regarding their own heritage, I know myself as an Anglo-Saxon, sixth generation Australian that I cannot begin to fathom the community understanding within an Aboriginal society such as Yuendumu. The same goes for the Tiwi Islands and the Aboriginal community in Darwin. If these players do have issues relating to their culture, which we would treat as personal issues, then they should be allowed the time to deal with them in a matter that would befit their own community. While I normally don't have time for him, Mick Malthouse did come out with what I regarded as a fantastic comment regarding an unnamed indigenous player. He said that at times, the player in question needed to be away from the club. Malthouse said to him at those times that he'd have to be at the ground ready for the game two hours before the bounce, and that if he wasn't there there would be consequences. The match committee threw a hissy fit over picking a player who hadn't trained all week. The player showed up right on time, ready to go. MM proceeded to make a comment about the 'walkabout' idea, which I do not agree with - personally I find judging all of them with that as culturally insensitive - but certainly backing off and allowing these guys to deal with their problems in their own way can help. I'm really quite proud of the indigenous program we have at the club. I hope it continues under Neeld. We've helped some marvelous talent in the last 15 years, and I sincerely hope that we can continue to bring through quality indigenous talent and aid them in a career in the AFL.

I hear that, on current form I'll be studying and drafting at the same time!
-
Oh don't get me wrong, it was still MILES better than 2011 and was very good probably 80% of the time if I had to put a number on it. They'll get it right.
-
It's still not 100% - there were a couple of cases at the triple header where GC just bombed the pill beyond the press and ran onto it, but it's heaps better than what it was.
-
This is true. We were very magnanimous with Wonna and I'm sure he appreciated the time apart, even though he decided he couldn't deal with the pressure of beiing at an AFL club.

I'm not talking about A-Graders, I'm talking about the outright gamebreaker - that rare talent who can succeed no matter the dire circumstances, and tear a side to shreds. See Ablett, Judd, Franklin. Not doubting those teams had a wide variety of A-Graders, but some of those players simply didn't have the outright individual damaging ability of the true top end. Black, Power, Voss was death by 1000 cuts. Brown wasn't even at his peak at that point. Adelaide - McLeod early career, Roo was a hard nut mid and Jarman is memorialised for standing up when it counted - when Modra went down.

Just as a note - people talk about needing a superstar, a gamebreaker, but I don't know that you do - Brisbane 2001-03 didn't have one who absolutely stood out (Aker came close sometimes), neither did Adelaide 97-98.

Been looking at the other league for some draft inspiration...getting some ideas of sneaky moves early to throw some spanners in.
