Premiership depend on the cattle, luck and injuries. If you have the players but are injured most of the year then you are yesterdays favourite. Luck in the Grand Final and you kick points rather than goals but have more scoring shots al la Geelong 2008 then you lose. Luck during the season where in clutch games you kick winning goals rather than losing point at the death getting you not enough wins to make the finals, look Collingwood 2022 if they lost all the close games 2 goals or less then they would have won 10 less games. Cattle teams like North Melbourne, West Coast start the season knowing the team need to be at their best even to be competitive so their window is always in the future and depends on getting their picks right to become competitive in the future like the demons in 2008-2017 high draft picks either were duds or ordinary at the AFL level. Players who look good at junior level maybe bigger and stronger then their opponents but fall by the wayside because of poor attitude or desire.

In the old days you put players on the long term injury list so a player on the rookie list could play in the 1st but today the only reason you would do it if you wanted a player in the mid-season draft.
-
I think he premiership window just widened with the recruits Brodie Grundy and Lachie Hunter quality players who if they play at their best will help us win at least another premiership.
-
I think like a lot of the players the 2021 year was better.
-
He had a reasonably good season but 2021 was better, delisting a player like Langdon you need a superb replacement so Buckenara's days as a recruiter or list manager must be well and truly over.

Which Demon is the most likely to have a breakout year in 2023?

Saints Sack Ratten & Appoint Lyon as Coach

Although the saints think Lyon is the messiah I believe even God would have trouble winning a premiership with the current crop of saints players unless he gave them wings. -
I think the club was stuck between a rock and a hard place, since the player had his heart set on returning home, the AFL should have a policy that players in the top 10 have to sign with the clubs that pick them to a 3 year contract with the club having a 2 year exerciseable option beyond the initial term. Give the club that recruits a player like LJ at the minimum of 5 years service. The next 10 get only 3 years and a 1 year option, the rest get 2 years.

It seem that we don't let on who we are going to pick in the last few years since JT became Head Recruiter.

From what I remember Lucas Cook was just big and not very mobile or agile, at least Josh Schache has the mobility and the agility. For those of my era Paul Fanning son of Fred Fanning was big and strong but lacked mobility or agility to make it but he was a star in the U19.

I looked at the posts and everybody agreed we are thin in the ruck area and when we actually addressed that area with a category B rookie some objected whilst others applauded. I think we should congratulate the recruiters that a player regardless of his background chose the MFC and not the Eagles or Carlton. If this type of system was not in place players like Blicavs would still be running around at the athletics. We now have a project ruckman who may become the next Gawn/Grundy or the next Bradtke we would never know if we did not take the risk,
-
Unfortunately Bradtke's 3 years were played whilst covid ruined any chance he had.
-
At least he looks happy maybe getting away from the WB pressure cooker will help him play his best football again. Surronded by multiple AA players and near AA players whilst at the WB he was expected to carry more of the responsibility of leadership.

Mason Cox of Collingwood and some Irish recruits
-
Looks like he does not mind a bit of body contact and has well developed body shape. Hope he turns out better than our other basket product Aaron Bradtke who looked ok but did not like body contact.
-
The environment at the MFC with Mark Williams has been exceptional so he may become the player that the recruiters touted when he was drafted. He will replace BB and has more strings to his bow
-
Yes his highlights are excellent and reminds me of a young Franklin but slightly better overhead.
-
Josh Kennedy, Patrick Cripps and Jake Stringer says hi.
-
Ollie Holland's has put himself in the frame to be picked in the first 10 if he slips to 13 and Mattaes Phillipou is still there we may have a dilemma on our hands but I would pick Mattaes.
-
Yes it was John Landy except Landy won the race not come as a also ran.
-
Pick 13 usually is a quality player who has slipped or has had a long term injury and clubs want players who will play right away not 12 months down the track al la Kemp of Carlton. Since we have a good list with cover in most positions we can afford this luxury.
-
He is rookie and not every pick makes it but because he is a WA boy, he would make the other WA boys feel more at home.
-
This is one area where we have little to no cover the bigger midfielder in the 192+ range since Clayton is the tallest at 187cm and resting on the HF line they create matchup problems for the opposition where small HB get out marked and tall HB don't have the agility.
-
A solid year he is now a Casey Premiership player for life.

Cal Twomey gets it right because he has got inside information from some clubs and distributes the information on the AFL web site the ones he gets wrong are clubs where they keep their picks close to the chest upseting the draft order. The MFC has basically fallen for the trap by telegraphing their first pick in 2019 being Holmes and Geelong swapped picks on the day, they should have lied or kept it a secret but loose lips sink ships. If I was Taylor I would give out wrong information to all concerned and then did what is best for the club.
