I have watch and played football from 1952 and found that champion data is the biggest load of rubbish unfortunately coaches look at statistics and think they are the holly grail of data. The players who block and tackle a player jarring the ball from his grasp are not rewarded they don't reward a kick or handball to advantage verses a miskick or a bad handball. The kick by Harmes in the GF to Bayley was superb did he get extra for that kick no this is why statistics can be skewed, because that kick energized the teams belief they could win and the result was a premiership. The computer program was written by a person who may or may not know anything about football and does not analyse the result of the kick or handball other than good or bad. If it was done properly there would be grades of handball and kicks where depending on the accuracy they would get a rating out of 0 to 9.

Unfortunately for a player with this type of injury the mental side of twisting and turning may become a problem long term because they may not have the confidance to do things they did before the injury. In 1968 and 1969 they increase the season by 2 matches, in 1970 they increased the season to 22 matches making 200 games in 10 seasons easier and 300 a little easier with finals. When players play in bottom clubs they became dispirited and players usually retired when they felt they had enough playing in losing sides, thus players for the MFC did not get to 300 games until Neitz.

One thing about watching the replay of game you are not as tense as watching it live and hoping when we were 19 points down that we could make a game of it and win the game. I look at the above statistics and the question I want answered is when we won or they won the center clearance was it like in the grand final at the goal side of the center or on the defensive side. A commentator basically stated when you win on the defensive side the ball ends up on the half back line as apposed to winning on the attacking side when the ball results in a deep entry on the full forward line or a score. The fact that we were the best defensive side in the competition losing a clearence on the defensive side did not hurt us as much as when we lost it on the attacking side. The game against Geelong in Geelong in the 2nd quarter was an example of the difference when Geelong was winning the clearances at the goal side where as in the 4th quarter we got it going again by winning the clearences on the goal side.

We got a good player cheap from NMFC so don't complain about the trade and be happy with the outcome. When we traded Jack Watts we got a pick used to get Bayley Fritsch. So we got 2 good trades and hopefully the synergy between them will last for at least the next 3 years.

He has shown by rejecting the Geelong overtures that he has red and ble flowing in his veins and decided to achieve the success at the MFC. He has been rewarded for his loyalty, his early years at the club were like walking over broken bottles in bare feet, and with any luck with injury he might play in multiple premierships like players Ron Barassi, Bluey Adams and Brian Dixon who all played in the golden era of the MFC enjoying 6 premierships. There were many others who played in multiple premiership but the 3 I have mentioned lasted the longest. The only reason players in the 1950's and 1960's left the club early to coach or earn good money playing the game they loved.

One thing I learned from my first coach you cannot make a clanger if you don't get the ball. So they must of had the ball lots of times, it would be worrying if they had only 129 and 125 possessions for the season. Since they both played 25 games the clanger count average per game is 5.16 for Oliver and 5 for Petracca. They had 31.6 possessions average per game for Oliver and 29.2 for Petracca. Also what was the definition of a clanger?

Looks like he will be ready to take over from Gawn playing in tandum with Jackson when Gawn plays as a forward in place of Brown.

Maybe Jake Melksham might do revival like Tom McDonald or Alex Neal-Bullen in 2022?

By the way Luke Jackson played Basketball and was a top junior player who chose football.

The fact that clubs win back-to-back premierships or 3 peats makes the players who played in all 2 or 3 life long respected players of their respective clubs. There some clubs who have won 2 premierships in a 3 year period which is also a great achievement. The fact that clubs like Richmod have won 3 premiership in 4 years is also great. I would love the MFC to replicate the 1955-1960 performance in the next 5 years but I would also be happy with 3 premierships in the next 6 years with no back-to-back. To win a premiership has become harder in recent years because the competition has become more even and fierce at the top end where teams who peak in the finals win the premiership whether they play 3 or 4 games in the finals.

The fact is professional sports people always play a sport they are good at and try to make as much money as they can so when they retire they have a reputation which will open other doors in their life after retirement. If you want to be an amature then thats ok, provided you have a good job with income to live off or your parents want to support you. I was an athletics official and work at the MFC as a trainer so I have seen both sides of the sports. In the end we work to make money to make our lives better, if your sport is your work then guess what.
