Hopefully if we can learn some basic skills then this will result in us leading in uncontested possession as well. Just need to teach our players how to kick and hit a target instead of bombing it 40m up in the air with a helicopter. Does anyone have a link to the quarter by quarter stats? I'd be curious to see what our possessions were like in the 3rd quarter. It seemed like we didn't have a kick for the first 10 minutes. I do agree with the sentiment of this thread; the weekend gave us some reasons for optimism. Hopefully this week will see some more positives added to your list, Striker.

As do I. They showed some passion and determination. If they keep playing like that they will pip a few teams. The same cannot be said for at least one other team in the comp.

It'll be a very telling game for our team, that's for sure. Will we be able to respond from a very poor performance and a week of criticism? Who's going to step up, if anyone? As I said: I'm not expecting a win, but I think we will be much more competitive than we were against Brisbane. I think (maybe I'm just being overly optimistic) that many on here will be surprised.

Just giving my input on an opinion thread, Biff. Some people here seem to think that we're ahead or pretty close to the Tigers when in reality we are not. We might have had a very slight upper hand on them in recent years, but they have the makings for a team that's going to go somewhere while we are missing more crucial pieces that are required to be a dominant team.

Where would you put him, then? Although he's played his best footy in the ruck, Jamar is our primary ruckman so that's not going to be his position. On the weekend one of the many things we struggled to do was get it out of our defensive 50. If he can play on the wing he can provide a target for us coming out of the backline then he could be quite valuable.

He walked off the ground with the team after the loss without limping. My 'expert' analysis says he'll be good to go in Perth.

Footy is won in the midfield. The Tigers have the makings for an A-Grade midfield, Melbourne doesn't. Richmond is much farther ahead than us.

With his tank and our 'bomb it long around the boundary' game plan, he's best suited to a wing, IMO. He can provide a target coming out of the backline and had a pretty good pair of hands.

I'm looking forward to next week's game to see how we respond. I don't think we're going to win, but I have a feeling we will be much more competitive. To be fair though, it would be hard to be less competitive than we were on the weekend.

Four is generous. Magner was very good. Trengove was okay. Watts had his moments, as did Martin. That's it.

Bartram suspended? For that 'sling tackle'. If he is that's almost as bad as JT's suspension last year.

Okay I'm very upset with the effort yesterday, and I think that a lot of changes are needed. But we've only played one game...let's keep talking about THIS season, please. No need to say we're already done for the year...still a lot of footy to be played.

It was against an interstate team. I'd say it's not a bad turnout. And a performance like that doesn't deserve a good turn out. It should be better when we play Victorian teams.
