  1. A 'project player' is a harsh assessment of Cook. I think people forget the injuries he has had so far which have impacted both his ability to gain match experience against men and time spent strengthening & adding mass to his body. As spoken about previously he was a cracking junior proven by his All-Aus CHF status. I'd classify a project player as an athlete trying to learn the game. Mike Pyke, Karmichael & big Izzy are examples as was our late great Jimmy Stynes all having to learn the game. He is not a 'project player' but a player and will be a good for us also. In two years time when he is clunking massive grabs and kicking bags next to big Mitch we will look back at this and laugh.
  2. In the U/16 system, Jack Darling was the man and dominated the comp. Was super hot property. His first year in the U/18's I believe he was still a very good player but over shadowed by other key position players. His second year of U/18's he was just a player, no more no less. His drafting number reflected that. The fact we didn't take him with our first pick is due to this reason, instead we opted for the All Australian CHF..... is that really so bad? If you were a recruiter, would you take the man child whos form over 3 years has deteriorated or the All Australian who is getting better by the day? Without hindsight I know who most would pick. Cook will take time but after watching a couple of his games at Casey this year he will be worth it.
  3. A typical useless article by the HUN this morning stating Davey is close to a recall with a picture of Bennell under the heading..... classic. One change for the week, in Frawley and out MacDonald. Dunn plays the whole game niggling Shaw.
  4. I went Saturday just to watch him as have never seen him in the flesh and only watched clips of him from the TAC Cup days. He still is skinny but has definitely getting more muscle around his arms, chest and legs from the old footage. Someone said on here I think that he has put on about 10kgs. Wouldn't be surprised but he is still thin. They played him full forward all day starting about 15m out from goal with Fitzy sitting about 15m out on the other side. There werent many search leads outside the arc. Think he was told to stay close to home. He didn't take any big pack marks Saturday but one on one his hands were great at least 4 or 5 times. His opponent looked young also with a similar build. Cooky held his own and his hands looked really good. Every grab of his just stuck. No fumbling at all. He will never be a cloke build wise, more of a Kosi I think.
  5. Based on Jake's game today, I doubt it. He has a foot on the bullants ruckman but just gets knocked from his line so easily. He needs a lot more strength in his legs so he isn't shoved out of the way. Also around the ground he has had little to no impact at all Fitzy as clunked a couple grabs today so I think he would be ahead atm
  6. Ricky P did some great things through that quarter. Loves a trash talk too which got him into a good scuffle with Davis backing him nicely. First goal of the quarter was a cracker from the pocket to Lawrence as well.
  7. Davis has won a couple good one on ones in front of me looks good. Uses his body well. Cooky has two goals from two grabs also. Spencer is a monster but not sure he realises. He has a cult following but
  8. That's a cracking website for those who want a cheap laugh.
  9. Dangerfields game last week was absolutely amazing, loved every minute of it. Can't go pass Gaz though, just seems impossible to tackle and has unbelievable skills. The player who gives me the most adrenaline however is our own Joel MacDonald. Everytime he gets the ball I'm on the edge of my seat wondering what the hell he is going to do this time (rarely in a good way)
  10. I hope we rated him as he has been playing some really good games of late. He went in the rookie draft in which I think we obviously rated Joel MacDonald higher
  11. No worries, sorry about that. Thanks Swooper too!! Cheers
  12. I walked past Cameron on the way back to work, it was definitely a Melbourne tie. He was with Al Clarkson who was wearing his Hawthorn one. Good on you Brucey!!
  13. I think he was picked for the "Emus" which is the Aussie U/19 squad but couldnt play due to a football injury (may have been a shoulder or collarbone). So I'd classify him above being just "a good junior bballer but thats it"He was only 17 or 18 when picked also if I remember correctly.
  14. Thought that was a great list. I think there are more players that could have been listed though. I would add Riewoldt/Goddard for the Sainters as they are both fantastic players. Also, spent a bit of time in Perth with a few Freo supporters last year and it was Pavlich this and Pavlich that and if Pavlich was in Victoria he would be massive news always. Not sure if anyone here posts from WA who could agree??
  15. Its hard to go past Watts and Trenners but I have a huuuuge man crush on Frank Grimes. I remember snippets of him playing in the centre during NAB cup games and he reminds me so much of Jobe Watson. Hoping he can better him and become a full time mid. So he is my number 1 in 3 years. Also have heard him speak and agree with everyone that he is great to listen to and even at such a young age has an aura. In 3 years: Jamar/Gawn taps the pill down the throat of Jack T, Jack G & Jack V to hit Jack W lace out.... deelicious! Smokey, Max Gawn. Did some great things in his couple games last season. A year of a Pizza & Steak diet with a lot of big weights and watch out league!!
  16. Depending on opposition: FB: Rivers Frawley Bennell HB: Grimes Garland Tapscott C: Jones Moloney Blease HF: Davey Watts Howe FF: Jurrah Clark Green R: Jamar Trengove McKenzie I/C: Gysberts, Petterd, Martin & Bail. - Rivers to play that floating role, Chip is just a gimme & Bennell to take a crumber - Grimes & Tappy quarterbacks. Garland I like at CHB, is a spoiling machine. - Moloney owns the centre. Jones can run all day and Blease can rest down forward. - Forward line is flexible. All six can play anywhere and rotate deep for breathers. - Rucks are a certain. Gotta have McKenzie he is all heart. - Interchange is really flexible and god I hope I havent missed out on a gimme
  17. Counting the days to see some of our 'potential' be realised. Its an ugly word as I fear saying it often sounds like we over-rate our list. But what I really want to see is the following: 1. Bate. Loved watching him play in 2007 roaming the flanks. Watched a few games of Casey this year and could not understand peoples perception that he is slow, at that level he looked very sharp. Anyways, hoping he can turn it around in the guts. 2. Morton. Don't know why, would just love him to play some great games as he just cops so much stick not only on this site but everywhere! Strikes me as a confidence player and would love to see him get a bit of swagger. 3. Gysberts. Was at his first game watching with interest as this rake of a kid was right in amongst it against probably one of the greatest midfield combinations we will ever see. Even the cats supporters developed a soft spot for him. Few more kg's on the rig and he will a real winner! 4. Sellar. Cant believe we drafted him as thought he was a spud at the Crows and a waste of a pick. I think for a while he was even playing two's in the SANFL which for a first round pick in the 'super draft' (IIRC) is pretty disappointing. Anyways James, I hope you prove me wrong, make CHB your own and release a Chip or Garland! 5. Davey and Green. Just to see them back to their best. They were awful last year, we know it, the club knows it and most importanly they know it. I am so excited to see them get back into it and shut everyone up. But really... just looking forward to footy again!!
  18. Although games wise they are similar, Grimes has been on board for 2 more years then Trengove which I feel is a big difference, especially this early in someones career. Also, he is obviously displaying wonders with his leadership with winning the Leadership Award this year. You can't predict injuries and I don't know why people would use the excuse that Grimes has suffered from too many in the past not to captain.
  19. Get on him and throw everything at him! He is a true leader who sets incredibly high standards and is tough as nails. Everyone on the list would walk taller with him being around and he would be a fantastic captain for our club. For those who worry thinking that he will be thinking about our premiership window I ask do you people not think Judd thought the same thing? He went to Carlton I think in 2008 with their future A Grade stars at the following ages: Murphy 21, Gibbs 19 and Kruze 19. Very similar to our Watts, Trenners, Jurrah & Gys Next thing the blues are playing finals and this year one kick away from a preliminary. Ask any Cats fan also and they were a lot more comfortable playing the Eagles then the Blues after the cracker of a game they had during the year. I thought they also played well against Collingwood. If we are this close in three years time pushing for a flag Goddard will be 29... wow that seems soooo old!! I have a Saints mad family who all believe Goddard will leave. He looked dis-enchanted this year which had to be a direct result of their off season. He is an out and out star and I would be devastated if we didn't throw everything at him!!
  20. Sculs family obviously has a soft spot for the MFC to which should work in our favour after reading Big Fitzy's Q & A from the clubs web page. He gave them a rap and massive thanks. Cant hurt
  21. Very rarely I comment on here but that comment is fantastic!! I can't believe some of the lack of love for Ross Lyon who in my opinion has done an exceptional job at challenging for the ultimate with squads that had half the talent of Geelong and Collingwood. The Aints have about 5 A Graders in the class department, Roo, Dal, Fish, Goddard and Montagna, a half a dozen of B's and the rest are genuine C Graders at best (Dean Polo anyone??? eew). They are simply an amazingly drilled outfit who dont accept mediocrity other than that of some of the natural talent on there list. The way they gut run back to zone in defence is amazing when you watch from up high in the stands. Imagine if our potential (such a dirty word) was realised with him at the helm, we could be unbeatable! Just for some quick gossip, a customer of mine at work who knows I am a mad dees man has told he has seen Gazza having a breakfast with Malthouse twice last week at seperate places. Now I cant confirm it and my source might not be just pumping up my tyres but I did enjoy the yarn when he told me!
  22. Warnock to centre half forward.....possible tanking by Casey lol
  23. Campbell just got ko'd in front of me looks bad he's not moving. Fair bump by someone who looks about 45 kilos. Just got him in an awkward spot
  24. Lace out to Fev from Bate. Fev from 50 straight in front..... yep
