  1. Three positives in an ordinary week; 1. Tom Campbell’s arrival. 2. AFLW team played like Demons. 3. Angus Brayshaw’s farewell in particular the optimism he expressed about the future of the club. Roll away the fair weather sailors, muckrakers and doomsayers.

Agree all the hoopla crammed into the non-playing time seriously detracts from the real footy. Especially during the quarter and half time breaks. Let the game breathe. Pre-game is OK.
  3. True LFS he was rookie listed already, but was given the opportunity to display his talent at Casey throughput the ‘22 season.Thought he was the best performed of the uncapped listed players in the VFL GF that year. In conditions that may not suit a sandgroper. Princess Park surface was very heavy underfoot after some rain. The rest is history, a JT special. Papely’s tenure at Casey must have been rather brief. l don’t recall seeing him on field. If another emerging player of his ilk surfaced from Casey and MFC manage to recruit him. Terrific!
  4. Given Bayley Fritsch, Judd McVee and Oscar McInerney all graduated via the Casey team to AFL success. Future opportunities could present for others taking the Casey pathway. George Grey and Corey Ellison both former Casey alumni have been mentioned as potential AFL recruits. Roan Steele combines football flair with grit and determination, plus he has a whole ground game. Tyler Edwards has been consistent performer with good anticipation and clean football skills. Kai Windsor’s efforts exceeded expectations after the previous season’s surgeries. All the best Lachie enjoy the golf and a glass of red.

Twenty plus years of Top End servitude did allow myself and my youngest daughter the bona fides to border cross and attend the GF. After a half- time ‘spray’ from an intoxicated MFC supporting new chum. Plus a serious bout of MFCSS, post attendances at the ‘88 and 2000 GP’s. The third quarter momentum blitz was revelatory, life affirming and cathartic. T’was a Grand Old Flag.

De Vliegende Hollanders (The Flying Dutchmen)
  7. Good morning Neil Old school motto (something l have in common with Angus). We had a brief conversation once at Mararra about that. Sursum corda - lift up your hearts Alter erara - in another land Refers to another branch, original school was set up in the UK to educate young men who would later go to India to be employed in the East India Company during the colonial period. Angus post retirement from the AFL as referred to in his speech is now ‘in another land’.
  8. AMW, Derksen and potentially Parfitt? Loading up on some Territory boys. Some challenges there for all concerned. Team redemption and career resurrection amongst it. And hopefully a diamond or two in the rough and tumble.
  9. Just became aware of the reason for renewed activity on this thread. A terrific heartfelt speech by a fine young man. Alter Erara Sursum Corda

Will Carlton and it's captain restore some prestige to the Brownlow by returning the 1922 centennial medal?

Wonder how the sales of Nick Daicos's 2024 Brownlow medal guernsey are going? Could be an opportunity to collect a few at bargain basement prices and await the rebound.
  12. Golden goal from Goldrick.
  13. Free to air 'live' has been murdoched. Casey radio budget appears strictly limited to forays within greater Melbourne. AFL has managed a synthetic bush telegraph.
  14. Followed unfortunately by 0 goals 5 behinds. Effective two goal buffer ahead of Freo though.
  15. 5 goals 0 behinds impressive accuracy. Freo continue to pepper the pot. 1 goal 4 behinds.
  16. To succeed in a covid year after 20,819 days in the football wilderness. Simply enhances the shine on premiership cup. Picket from the Jethro Tull Living in the Past double album "Life is a Long Song" resonates for me.

In his better performances for Casey, Tom showed good athleticism and decent mobility for a tall bloke. Judges the flight of the ball OK and can take a mark at the highest point. Not pack busting like a key forward IMM. More like a tall half forward flanker who can win the ball in flight. Forward line would need to be open, with fluidity of movement and ball delivery kicked to advantage. Seemingly the antithesis of current arrangements.
  18. Get the Ai app.
  19. Truly a Grand Old Flag. Denied the filth in dramatic circumstances. Who thought it would be almost a lifetime before the next?

“Cherry blossoms bloom best in springtime.” Fragment of ancient text , by anonymous Japanese poet. Believed by scholars to refer to the impermanent nature of AFL football recruitment and careers. And the unfounded rampant optimism and soon to be turned, capriciousness of football devotees.
