  1. As I recall he hd a back issue when drafted, from which he recovered. The foot last season was totally unrelated. But, yes, he has had two chronic injuries.
  2. Do you really think so? I would think by now that that would have (not so much fixed but) very solid ideas as to what "roles" most players will be asked to fill in a hypothetical "ideal situation". Of course they will have to be adaptable.
  3. Really? When ? Must have missed those / that game.
  4. Well, then, pedants (and I recognize you from afar, usually being one myself, but slipped up here), maybe I should have said a new ruck plan #2 then.....though, until they picked up all these monsters in trading and drafting I did briefly wonder whether Stef may have been possibly earmarked for CHB / FB, or possibly CHF next year -- clearly won't need to be the case now.
  5. Good luck to him and to Norwood. He should excell at the second tier competition.
  6. Nicho is a proven AFL player and by all accounts is already a leader at training. As I say time and time again, time alone will tell.
  7. Whatever, he looks as if he will be Gawn for a little while anyway. Ruck plan #2 will come into play
  8. Nowdys a 'relatively minor' arthroscopic procedure ? Few weeks to a month or so? Certainly not, if done well and goes well, not in the league of an ACL. In 1953? Ended John Coleman's career I believe.
  9. I guess we need to wait and see what today's assessment brings, especially considering the Franklin injury scare last finals time. Good luck to the guy whatever the result - he did have a pretty good start in his few games this season. I guess this is why we keep a few on the list - one man's misfortune is another's opportunity.
  10. Would it matter if he was playing anything remotely resembling decent consistent football??
  11. HSC ENGLISH EXAM: Consistency.......AFL...........put the two in a positively orientated paragraph. REQUIRED ANSWER : admit that it is impossible.
  12. Well, the guy clearly didn't / couldn't / wouldn't make an AFL career a priority, with the hard work and sacrifices that a successful one entails. I wish him well.
  13. I presume that your post refers to the next Demon Brownlow winner. IF coach Neeld is the disciplinarian and the motivator that we all hope he will be, there is absolutely no reason, talent and skill wise, that Colin Sylvia cannot win it n 2012. Of course all the motivation and discipline in the world will come to absolutely nought unless Colin himself approaches every contest in every quarter of every game starting round 2 2012 as if it may be his last. He can do it --- can he be bothered and can he make the sacrifices needed to do it, like the sacrifices and self discipline shown by Woey in 2000? I don't know -- do you know, Col ???
  14. He will find out just how big the step up is: we will see if he can make that step! JPod #2 would be nice, however improbable Howe made a somewhat similar step reasonably well Still, the opportunity and the huge chalenge is there for him and good luck to him
  15. I agree - putting on muscle is only part of the solution: is there any 'drill' or 'exercise' or anything else for that matter that can instill an absolute desire into any player to get into a tight pack of big angry players and just get the ball, and do something useful with it? To me it must be an innate quality, one which I have not seen even a glimmer of in Cale.
  16. Tom Cavanagh, Chris Johnson, a young Seedling that many here were drooling over a couple of years ago ........ & literally 99+% of sons of top AFL players who may not even make it to the school 3rd XVIII. Sure, genetics can play some role, upbringing probably a hell of a lot more, but that doesn't in any way dampen my excitement at the Viney prospect; it leaves me pretty neutral and open minded re the Sofa.
  17. I thought that this may be a reference to a new attitude to our approach to playing at Doglands: with the "clean slate" attitude of Neeld et al, hopefully the huge mental bogey of that soulless chasm can be overcome. A stronger bodied team may cope better, and an actual game plan formulated by an intelligent panel of coaches will surely break the curse. GO DEES - BRING IT ON!!!
  18. I guess time will tell, but remember that throughout 2011 we also lacked fitness, we lacked a game plan especially a clearance plan, we lacked physical strength We lacked cohesion and leadership and the ongoing toxic undermining effect of the deceit and uncertainty of a certain recent #1draft pick should not be underestimated All those glaring issues have been or are being addressed so there is at least cause for a little optimism.
  19. Was he picked up anywhere? Pity - the name alone would draw crowds ;-)
  20. Another mature strong "clearance mid" rookie - the coaching and recruiting staff know what is needed for ultimate success. All these potential additions, as that is all rookies are at least at this stage of the season, potentials, will add pressure to the established mids and can only be good for the team. And, as others have posted above and in earlier post, we have picked up the odd gem in the rookie draft in the past. And it is all pretty low risk. These 'mature aged' guys will also be pretty hungry for promotion - go Dees.
  21. A big boy - looks like a "wait and see" type to me. I am sure that the lack of urgency etc issues have been assessed and hopefully addressed or he wouldn't have been picked.
  22. Like Williams, there can be little downside in recruiting this strong mature bodied and aggressive midfielder. Big jump from VFL to AFL, but, as other have said - Barlow??
  23. Sounds very exciting as a prospect - there must be a huge leap from suburban footy to AFL, but then I guess the Howe boy from Dodge's Ferry this season showed that it can be done. At least he sounds like a mature bodied player. Good luck. I will watch and listen with enormous interest. There seems very little downside in picking him up, like Howe. jPod #2?????
  24. But that would involve him moving to Rooty Hill ... maybe therefore a transfer to GW$ ... and as an ex first round pick, a compensation selection ... mmmmmmmmm. ????????
  25. It used to bother me a little, but as we see less and less of him so wanes the small residuum of care. Still looks like a 60s porn star though.
