But exactly what is richos role? I've never understood apart from an experienced mature sounding board for goodwin. Is it strategy???
-
I mentioned this on another thread earlier. Agree 100% FD. Lyon said its a 30 second fix and my thought was why has the stats on I50's been going on for 2 years.?
-
Ross Lyon said as much too on Wednesdays Footy Classified.
-
Obvious . Thanks. Much appreciated.

What does this mean???? I've never seen the movie

I'll be re-reading this post at 8.30pm on Saturday. It'll either be hilarious or a pile onto Chookrat( whom I admire greatly and more strength to you mate)

Your right lord nev e cept that lyons point ws you can't play manic football often and expect composure and good decision making in the forward entry approach. I think he felt the 2 issues may be incompatible. Goodwin showing the vision won't solve a problem necessarily if the manic approach inhibits others aspects.

This may belong in the "IS Goodwin the Right Guy" thread but I don't think so. Last Night's Footy Classified had Ross Lyon analyse what all supporters are screaming about and that is forward entries using the Richmond game vision. It wasn't overly insightful or new, but the way Lyon glaringly and simply explained the issues, and sounded optimistic and thought its all fixable, sounded like a pitch for me ( but not necessarily Ross's approach - he was simply providing analysis as is his media role) and left me wondering what the discussion is inside the FD for the past 2 years even approached this issue in such a way. Results suggest not

That's what I said. Unless you don't agree that Dusty would have made the right call.

Nice. Picked it .

I think sadly Jayden is the barometer of the team selection quality. A gifted athlete but cant hit a target. When he's in it sends a message in the wrong way. I was at Adelaide Oval when he took that hit a few years ago and hope he will be OK long term.

Insightful comment HFF. Time and again his kicking style with head down betrays his lack of penetration. Great heart so if he can fix his decision making to suit his strengths he's worth persevering with. The vision on Footy Classified showed a great example last night of Viney breaking away, Mitch Hannan in the clear 25 m away and in a scoring position yet Jack I suspect didn't even see the opportunity and bombed it long. Its not his fault BTW - its team development that has let him down Dusty would have

Good observation. At one point BT remarked when Geelong had a turnover in their favour that "...this will test the demon mids to man up...) They didn't and the Cats ran the ball easily through the centre out of defence.

Correct. I think the coaches votes went 10 for trac and 8 for Clarry, meaning both coaches thought they were best and 2nd best afield? But leave Gil alone, he's handled the whole covid thing pretty well. The only major sporting CEO still standing, and deservedly so.

An interesting aside to this thread is that I think the story was that Roos wanted Dew as his successor but the swans, rightly, held him to his contract. Goodwin wins the gig. Its a long bow but there's a bit of love for Dew as a coach after recent Suns success and will be worth watching this story unfold. What might have been sliding door possibly?

This decision fills me with some confidence in the FD. Sure the team has other issues but no one is gifted games. The skipper decision was another. Harmes didn't make his name as a backman so must have a lock down role

and the great Doug Bigelow and Kevin 'Skeeter' Coughlan who played 90 games for pies and hawks at just 163 cm and 56 kg.!

I expressed concern last year that the AFL is littered with players who don't know when to retire or clubs that lack foresight and put individual above club. In contrast think of the Hawks who retired a premiership skipper in 1991 - Michael Tuck. If I was a player on large 6 figure payment I would stay also, hence up to the club. Jones made the correct decison for his family to seek another year. The club pulled the right rein making max captain but baulked at the full move. It will now just be sad seeing Nathan limp to the line and the club will be at fault for this. Time will tell.
-
On Max's zoom meeting to fans this week asked at the end who his standout player was pre season up to this week - it was Jordan.
-
This was my main take away also. I hope his kicking has improved to target and has lost the tendency to long bomb. otherwise some surprises but a good list .

Realistic view, . The above must have had a mental impact on the team. But the game last night confirmed/ showed for me several players still in 22 are most likely past it for sure and will open up spots for others if the season re-starts or next year. Forward entries still not fixed - Ball firmly in Goodwin's court Gone are Hibbered, Spargo, ANB. Still quality to come in like AVB, Hore, Salem, Weideman, Jackson.....

3 months for free. Just connected now and picture quality is great, depending on TV of course

This is the correct answer by Daisy. The questions is about the OLDEST continuous FOOTBALL club - which is the mighty MFC. I think the Cats are second oldest The MCC is not the oldest sporting club, there are older cricket clubs in the UK. Sheffield United was formed in 1889. There was probably an ealrier verison prior to united but again, not coninuous.

Thanks - I haven't seen that quote, but I saw Spargo deliver into forward 50 under pressure a few times in the 2018 finals series at the G and given his age at the time saw potential. I also think he is a good decision maker. Clearly Goodwin sees that his pre-season has earnt him a spot which is good to see (effort and results will be rewarded etc.. is the message here.)

Of course they are! My point was the history of AFL in difficult situations, and how it can/does offer comfort to some those affected. I don't need it but many do. When the Chief Medical Officer signs off then I am satisfied with that.
