Saints Sack Ratten & Appoint Lyon as Coach
Demon17 replied to whatwhat say what's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great summary of Lyon and esp about Lyon not being responsible for the Ratten decision. The Board endorsed Ratten 10 weeks before sacking him. And clearly from Basset's mealy-mouthed answers at yesterday's presser he was 'aware' Lyon was gettable so they may have pulled the trigger on that data. But he might have had deniabilty on talking to Lyon pre-Ratten sacking by using 3rd party info . Shocking work by the Saints Board. Lyon may suceed, who knows, but culture trumps everything else so let's see. -
Debt free $10M in cash and off AFL lifeline Out of Gambling 65000+ members Senior coaching support (note c.f Saints for example) and outcomes. Premiership Ongoing Top 4 window potential Central Australia indigenous relationships Female President. This is a 'status quo' I like, compared to what I was watching since 1968.

Jordan's first game in the team in 2021 he was straight onto the middle and looked like he belonged from the start. Who is this kid we were saying? That's where he goes back to in some way IMO.

Presser started out with a justification of the process by President Basset - then on to Ross. He could barely read his own pre-written notes. Give me Kate any day. -
Thanks for this Daisy. It prompted me to make a couple of comments . 1. Transparency: I looked at the website and also found no information on anyone involed including the 'committed supporters' That alone is just poor form from a group espousing transparency as an issue. 2. The page notes ' we wrote the rules". Not true Tom WIlls and several others wrote the rules in Jerry Bryant's hotel, not necessarily part of the fledgling Demons. An example of the truism " Success has many parents, failure is an orphan". 3. It states We were at the forefront of womens football - again not true. We put our hand up to start an AFL team first with the Dogs. This stateemnt is an affront to Darebin Womens club, with Whom Daisy has one about 10 flags, the other Victorian pioneers, Susan Alberti etc. whereby womens football had been runnign successfully well bfore the AFL woke up. A statement that needed clarity and accuracy, rather than take the marketing spin approach. Unprofessional. No execptions re: the Board term limts issue smacks of hard core decison-making without considering the circumstnaces, such as the death of a President in their final year. Why wouldn't it be sensible to have the incoming President have at least 1 or two terms, otherwise this proposal limits the Board's ability to select the right/best replacement at a difficult time. Zealots worry me big time. Too many errors of fact or limited clarifications to avoid issues that don't fit the narrative. Dissappointing and a big test for the membership IMO.

I do agree with you. Email is the modern form of comms and a key plank of the reveiw is to do away with a $200,000 mail out election. I got two copies of the Deemocracy papers yesterday and was underwhelmed by some selective statements which dissappointed me. e.g. Things wrong with the Club????- no home base and Bartlett's legal action. Is that it? Proxy's gone to the Yes team.

I get you, but for mine his goal in the GF 3rd quarter gives him plenty of points for such a young palyer to perservere. Takes Clarry's handball and kicks a 55m goal off maybe 2 steps at most with 4 Dogs running straight at him. Tmac did the shepherd of the century to help it through. Many goals can be claimed to have locked in the game turning moment, and I rate this as one of them. Yes he has to improve areas of his game but most do.

Credit to Dwayne. Not a bad effort at the top 10. May at 7 is a top selection by him.

I feel your rage but my response to Robbo would be... Oliver - B anf F in a Premiership year/team. Case closed in historical terms. Sadly as someone else on here said, Cripps will be another Fyfe , missing the ultimate prize, or even a significant finals c.v. Another thing Oliver has over him.

I do not want my email/contact details made available to just anyone and I do not give permission for the club to release them to third parties. I expect the club to defend this issue. A local govt councillor friend of mine says its against the State's electoral Act , for example, to use business mailing lists to cold-canvas voters in Council elections. Why is this any different? Go Dees for 2023.

Fair comment but Its just that I believe the a player's managare, esp for a 21 year old should be providing professional services holistically to help the young lad develop. he was set up to fail in this case. A drovers dog could have got Luke's deal done given the circumstances. The easiest cash he will have earned off Luke for some time. Juxtaposed with Liam Pickering's fantastic effort for Buddy years ago - even though Buddy let him go afterwards.
-
Keep 32 Tom. You share it with another Dees player who won a Premiership at 21 years of age - Barry Vagg.

Great riposte here . I couldn't figure out how to build his Mum into the comment. Thanks. Buy seriously he was left to his own devices with zero forethought or prep. Where is he getting advice from I wonder? Does anyone know who Manager is ????? just out of interest?
-
Absolutely, and does anyone like me after watching his Dees interview first day sense we now have a taller version of Ed Langdon personality, life views etc. ......?
-
His Manager threw him to the wolves. What does Luke get fro his 4% or whatever the Management fee is these days. Nothing much by the look of it. I'd do a Buddy and leave his manager that did the deal and find someone more suitable to him at his time of life.

Beginners error that always amuses me that it still happens. Think Teague, and even Jeff 'the Geisch' Geischen from the old days. -
Do the Dees have the pieces to make another premiership tilt?

Given final 8 changes by at least 2 every year you're tipping two of cats dees swans freo and pies will drop out of 8. Who? -

Never been more confident for a top 4 finish before a new season and thus another crack at a flag. Many reasons rounded off by trade performance inputs. -
Good job afl with equalisation strategy-not. Cats gifted Bowes through afl negligence and lack of foresight in salary dump changes. Not through brilliant trading as suggested. Top teams thrived . Bottom teams or those on the slide-dogs for example- did poorly.

Great summary on issues culture etc. I trust dees culture absolutely to help both reach potential for us. Dogs will be one of at least two teams that miss finals next year and the kennel under bevo won't be a happy positive environment. Good luck to both. Nice work overall tim lamb and fd

Grundy gets 12. Then the comps best midfield is sequentially numbered. 10 Brayshaw 11 max 12 grundy 13 clarry. Trac to be half forward and jack goes wherever the danger is. I love the synergy of this.

My pies tragic friend says this. Grundy top clearance but max is way better around the ground. He thinks now the dees midfield all over will be awesome in 2023. They are now but you know what I mean. He's Shattered grundy has departed his team
-
"Bulk" mean any number above 50%. Big deal. Well done - again - to Tim Lamb. Will now give the great Max gawn a clear extension of time on his career.
-
Thats my concern too. Hopefully Tim Lamb has a contingency for a second ruck option if Grundy falls through. We are not in an unbeatable negotiating position on this issue as some say. Maybe we are and Tim has a solution. Today will tell.

Agreed fo sure. 14th in the B and F. Pick 13 is probably a fair trade based on potential, definately not on current value. Roffey's comment about LJ at the B and F certainly in my mind was aimed at LJ's reasons for going home and acknowledging the professional and pragmatic views inside the club. They were not un reasonable, with no hard feelings. He will be a Life Member when he retires, so le's can the foolish talk about Jackson never coming back etc. Its just the way things worked out. Fascinating next couple of days.
