Maynard must get at least four weeks
3183 Dee replied to leave it to deever's topic in Melbourne Demons
100% @dazzledavey36 - we can't do anything about it now. Time to re-group as a great bunch of supporters and turn our collective attention to beating the Blues on Friday night. -
It wasn't THE reason, that's for sure, but it definitely would have had a bearing on the result: - Loss of a top-rated player for the whole game - Movement of Petracca out of the forward line - Substitute on early, who only played something like 55% game time - Distraction of the players, worried about their team mate and furious at Maynard.
-
Yes, agreed - pumping yourself full of emotion is exhausting and off-putting. Reset with a calm mind and quietly go about your business.
-
Yes! This is the first time that I have heard that Maynard was reported. Why has this blindingly obvious piece of evidence only been revealed now?!?!
-
I’m normally ‘live and let live’ as far as oppo supporters go, but the Pies supporters were a new kind of feral last Thursday. Even a Pies supporting mate of mine who called to gloat the following day (never calls when we beat them) said he thought they were as foul as he’d seen them😂

I echo @sam6172 - feeling pretty flat still: the media have written us off and not many give us a chance with our decimated forward line. What tricks could or should be pulled out of the bag, to be get us over a Carlton side that will be feeling very confident? It feels like when we played the Hawks in 2018 - except this time, we are the Hawks 😭
-
I got M12 for my family: we’re usually on 2A during the H&A season, but I guess it’s hard to grab 5 seats together in those areas?
-
I’m not surprised it was a bit flat: - They know they should’ve beaten the Pies - One of their main clubmen - Gussy Brayshaw - is apparently not in a very good way - The forward line has been decimated further - Hibbo has announced his retirement (what is that all about? Weird timing) I reckon they’ll pull themselves back up by Wednesday: don’t underestimate the effect of Gus’s situation.

Good intel - agree with the wing summation: we aren’t getting enough dynamically from either winger this year. Add some speed and ball use to the wings and it would lift our game considerably, I believe. I wonder if Rivers could be an answer on the wing or maybe Kozzie, if he has the tank? In which case, a recruit like Martin would be fantastic to shore up that small tricky forward position. -
They also have a fully functioning forward line!

I wouldn’t feel sorry for Maynard if he was playing for us: just like I didn’t feel sorry for Kozzie, when he collected Bailey Smith: stupid act and deserved his ban. I feel sorry for Gus, who has not only missed out on Finals but probably has to weigh up whether or not he takes the risk to play again - ever. I also feel sorry for Gus’s teammates who had to play without one of their key contributors in a QF, because of a stupid decision by an opponent. F Maynard and eff his effing club and their effing supporters. (I’m still salty, obvs 😉) -
Also add to that stat, the Doggies who zig- zagged their way from outside the 8 to win their flag - by that, I mean they played the maximum games in a finals series.
-
Doing the Collingwood chant, as a player is being stretchered from the ground is a dog act from a dog club.

Just got back in - despite having Brayshaw taken out at the start and a patchwork forward line, we should have won. The forward line, we can’t do anything about for the next few weeks. If it’s true that JVR will miss, then Grundy will have to get a game. Regardless of how we go in the next couple of weeks, we need to recruit better ball users. I loved the fight tonight: had that game gone on for 5 minutes longer, we would have won. Also, Collingwood fans never disappoint, do they? Absolute morons on L1, goading after every goal and then 💩 ing themselves as we fought our way back into it.
-
I guess we have to see how TMac gets on, but with Melksham out (or possibly finishing), BBB probably retiring, Schache at least gives some back up to our already stretched forward line. A chap who sits behind me at the footy (maybe he posts on here?) has a theory that the coaching staff really rate Schache's ability and are trying to make him hungry. Not sure about that, but a theory nonetheless!

Come on Eagles - drop your bundle…don’t you want our draft picks?! 😂
-
Amen to that. Clarkson will want to start a winning culture straightaway. They’ve got plenty of good young players anyway, plus they still get pick 2. Edited to add: Of course, it’s a different rule for West Coast: they should just go out and lose if it gives us a shot at Reid 🤣
-
I agree - looking at their last few games, they are in a world of pain: shocking effort.
-
I think that we were ripe for the taking at the time - there was little substance to our club, so we were easy targets. The truth was that every club had done it, with Carlton possibly the worst offenders. However, we had a leadership that believed the fortunes of the club would magically turn around with high draft picks alone. The bottom line is that if you entertain the idea of losing, your culture is no good.

I wonder if they will try to recruit Liam Henry for that position?
-
Bri Ghton? (It’s a silent ‘Gh’ - Welsh ancestry 😉
-
What about Bri Ton?
-
I think it’s just part of the Maccas obligations that each club has to do. I love how Clarry is just Clarry 😂
-
Tanking may get you better picks, but it does nothing for your culture - look how long it took us to get out of that toxic mindset.
