AFL to overhaul draft on Father/Son picks âWhatâs that you say? The Dees have got three gun father son picks coming up? Time to put a stop to this!â Itâs about making clubs part with first round picks to secure F/S if their selection gets nominated in the first round, to stop what happened this year, with R1 bloating out to 29 picks. The idea will be overseen by Geoff Walsh and was proposed by Graeme Allen (and Steven Wells) as soon as the Daicos boys were picked up for nothing.

Change coming to the Academy System
True dat. Looks like GC are on the right track.

Change coming to the Academy System
Maybe clubs should be restricted as to how many of their academy kids they can bid on each draft. Gold Coast pick up 3 top 15 picks in this draft and another at 26. They could do that each year: bring through the best 3 or 4 players in Queensland and pay nothing for them. Thereâs no way clubs get 3 or 4 gun F/S selections each year. Iâm all for the equality of the competition, but surely GC and GWS have had enough concessions now?

AFLW: QF vs North Melbourne
Where has the composure gone? North far cleaner and more aggressive. We will have to lift massively next half, but hard to see us getting it back at the moment.

Welcome Back to Demonland Marty Hore
Iâd imagine theyâd look at him predominantly as a Casey player - a bit like Dunstan was. I actually like the strategy of putting 2 or 3 quality senior guys with good habits at Casey, to bring through our new recruits. It means that the young guns get a good role model on their line, to learn from, whilst keeping Casey strong.

Max Promises Tough Love this Preseason
Well, not really. I put my money where my mouth is, by purchasing family memberships for both men's and women's programs. Of course, I'm happy to do so, but will also call out when the same old rhetoric gets trotted out.

Yep - heard it all before. Talk is cheap.

Trading pick 6
This doesnât work for us, if we want to pick up Reid, though?
-
Trading pick 6
Yes - our recruiting/trading strategy is getting the best picks players in the current draft and letting the next year wait until next year. Obviously, the exception is when a player (ie Jackson) is traded out and we have to negotiate future picks, but generally we very much look at the present.

What's needed in 2024
From what I have observed over the past two seasons, our team seems to be playing under a heavy burden: thereâs not a lot of âlightnessâ around the place. I wonder if the culture agenda has been over-thought at the expense of players simply enjoying footy under a good system, as in 2021. I donât hold out great hope for 2024 - I think the Clarry situation will not easily be resolved, in terms of him being back to his previous best. I know weâre not supposed to mention the war, but I think whatâs needed for 2024 is a united team, playing with a bit of freedom.

Farewell Oscar McDonald
I honestly tear up each time I watch that. That was maybe the best goal Iâve witnessed in terms of the absolute limbs when he put it through. It was symbolic on so many levels: his Queenâs Birthday retribution (was it his last one?) and he cast off the massive weight on his shoulders - you could tell by the look on his face: part sheer exhaustion and part walking on air.

Harrison Petty
Anyone who works in the care and teaching areas can make a huge positive difference to a childâs life. If you can inspire change and positivity in just one person, you have done your job.

Harrison Petty
Yes - thatâs what I understood as well. Less homesickness, but more wanting to see his family more regularly. If they are from country SA, 5 hrs out of Adelaide, then it would be difficult to get to games. Iâm sure the club will now organise for his family to come over more, which is great for everyone.
