  1. Lock this thread up. This kind of discussion was barred in the General forum, and now we have the usual suspects pushing their respective barrows here in a football discussion forum!
  2. Great table as it also should silence those who continually harp on about the AFL (via the umpires) having it in for us. Sydney on the other hand...
  3. I'm afraid I don't get your drift at all... the SMH links directly to Real Footy. It has the same articles as appear in The Age online news. Oh, and if it's scrolling that bothers you, you actually have to scroll further to get to the NRL which is situated below the Sport section where the AFL news can be found. As far as numbers go, it is NOT a monopoly market. They share the AFL with GWS as well as competing with nine Sydney based NRL clubs, a number of Rugby Union clubs and soccer clubs. The fact that they have so many members is a reflection on just how well they are doing in a market that was once almost entirely owned by the NRL.
  4. Yeah, even if he was one of our better players yesterday... and even if he has performed at a much improved level since his recall.
  5. I’ve lived in Sydney since 1979 and can honestly say that the Swans have far more relevance here than clubs from any other code. They get bigger crowds, they have a winning culture that is admired by Sydney-siders and they are the reason that AFL now has strong support in the wider community at all levels.
  6. Perhaps he and Andrew Brayshaw will be watching together.
  7. Oddly enough bingers, you weren't my source - my son is ready to deck me if I keep making the comparison each time we watch a game. I suppose the "Jack, not Norman" thing is pretty obvious if you're from a certain generation.
  8. I was thinking he’s more Gunston-like... and I don’t mean Norman.
  9. It was mentioned last night on AFL360.
  10. From Peter Caven’s Wiki page... “Caven was the victim of an infamous act of AFL thuggery when St Kilda's Tony Lockett struck him viciously in the face and broke his cheek-bone during a game in 1994. Lockett was handed a heavy suspension of eight weeks for the incident. In an absurd twist, Caven was forced to issue an apology to Lockett the following week after appearing on comedy television show Denton and, at the urging of host Andrew Denton, bashing an effigy of Lockett with a baseball bat. The following season, Caven and Lockett were team-mates at Sydney.”
  11. Didn’t Plugger Lockett poleaxe a Swans player with similar results the season before he moved to the Swans? I’m pretty sure they kissed and made up during the preseason.
  12. You’re right... I stand corrected and apologies to ProDee for ever doubting him ?
  13. I can’t recall, but how were the Dees traveling when Woey won the Brownlow?
  14. Jetta rarely sighted?? Have to strongly disagree on that one.
  15. With Brayshaw's rise, I think we actually miss Jack far less than we do, say, Lever. Gaff will be a great addition (note my severe case of optimism) and will make our midfield almost invincible.
  16. Rance should be playing in Russia!
  17. Nothing good comes without a cost. Take one for the gipper SWYL.
  18. Start a Change.org petition SWYL... I’m sure that’d carry more weight than a comment on a footy forum.
  19. I'm not saying that the free count was fair, they weren't consistently applied and that is something that is seen in ALL games (although at 30-24, a six free kick discrepancy between the two teams is hardly extreme)... however, I am saying that the idea that there is some sort of conspiracy working against the MFC is preposterous. We were our own worst enemies and that is down to the fact that we had almost double the number of 50 entries (68 to 39) and yet failed to convert them into scoring opportunities; there was nowhere near the number of frees against that could account for that. We should have been in an almost unbeatable position by half time.
