Would you say the same about those criticising Maynard? After all, he was attempting to smother the ball. Yes, I think he got off far too easy, but his action did bring about rule changes which unfortunately have seen Kossie receive a suspension. I think that if the player chooses to launch himself with both feet off the ground and the smother is successful without making contact with the opponent’s head, then fair enough…but if the player mis-times the smother and in bracing himself, makes contact with the head, then he’s in trouble.

I wouldn’t be overly concerned about the 5 day break… Adelaide get one day extra but they had the long haul flight back from Perth and their game was possibly a much harder fought affair than was ours (I imagine in similar temperatures?).

I don’t know if it’s been raised here, or even if it’s worth raising, but shouldn’t Soldo’s (it was him, wasn’t it?) head-on with Max have been looked at by the panel (or was it?). No damage was done, but it was a late tackle and he did launch himself into the air before colliding with Max… so if they are serious about removing these kinds of tackles from the game, shouldn’t he at least have been fined for the action (like they did with Rivers)? It should not just be all about the outcome!!

Sunday was a fantastic gig Rob. We had Richard Burgman from the Saints and Sunnyboys sitting in on guitar, Paul Field from an old 80’s band called The Cockroaches doing a bit of singing, Murray from The Wiggles (Paul Field used to manage them), playing some guitar, as well as a bunch of other people. So much fun and I am pleased to report that my energy levels lasted out the whole gig. Next one is coming up next Saturday at Smith’s Alternative in Canberra (6th April).

I’m trying to avoid voting based on traditional rivalries…I experienced the birth of one in the late 50’s/early 60’s (can you guess what it might have been? 😉). I’ve gone for Brisbane, who I’ve had a hatred for over the past few years, and which has grown deeper in more recent times, all at the hands/mouth of mostly one individual… Dane Zorko!!! I’m actually a little surprised that at the time of submitting my vote, I was the only one to select them.

I get your point re the supporter group stepping in, but the issue I can see is that there’ll be numerous suggestions, some good, some not so good, so to avoid the list getting too cluttered, how do you decide what is acceptable? I’ll add to my conundrum with these… For those old enough, Marty Hore’s nickname could be ‘Spin’ and Jed Adam’s’ could be ‘Uncle’ or even ‘Pugsley’.

I can only see Petty being the sub. He’s barely match fit, so I’d guess they’ll want to use him as an impact player where he can run hard for half (or less) of a game. Good to see him back though!

Yes, the idea of this list, is to provide the established nicknames and more particularly, a list of nicknames that the players themselves actually use or have brought into the club with them. This is NOT meant to be used as a place for us, Demonlanders, to invent new nicknames for the players and record them.

Are these, well, Verrall’s genuine, or made up by yourself? 😉
