NON-MFC: Round 12
Yeah, when I saw the first couple of shoves I thought Day was celebrating in a āmacho, blokeyā kind of a way, but as it continued, it certainly did, as you say, seem very surreal.

NON-MFC: Round 12
It was Day. Nothing happened between them in that last bit of play, so you could be right, it may have been something that happened earlier in the quarter. Perhaps Ginnivan made some sort of snarky comment as they were leaving the ground.

The act needs to be viewed in real time, and Iām not sure that anyone would be capable of mentally summing up the situation and considering the implications. I think the first reaction would be to protect your own body, and that would explain why he braced for contact in the way he did (a first response would likely be to not leave the chest, ribs and mid section exposed). As I did say in my original post, I believe Maynard did get off very lightly, but if it can be said that anything good actually came out of this incident (regardless of how you or any one of us personally views it), at least it has led to rule changes intended to protect players in such cases. Unfortunately Kossie has become a victim of these changes that are intended to punish the action first, and then the outcome on top of that.

Itās ok for posters such as yourself to say that this WAS a premeditated/intentional act, but unacceptable for me to say that that statement is absolute nonsense?? (incidentally, itās obvious that that is my view and so shouldnāt need any clarification) Ok, Iāll edit my post to remove the āoffensiveā wording, but that will not change my view in any way. Yes, you may have been affected by it, which is understandable considering that you are in contact with players and families of players, so, Iāll apologise as it has caused you some pain, but please donāt project that on to the majority of others whose only connection to the club is, like myself, as a member or supporter.

It is not unbelievable at all as I am in no way comparing the two incidents other than the fact that they were both attempted smothers that went wrong⦠the fact is that he (Maynard) attempted to smother, albeit a clumsy attempt, and when it became obvious he would collide with Gus, braced for the collision⦠once a player is airborne at speed, there is no way they can take effective evasive action. Iām tired of reading comments from Dees supporters saying that Maynard never had the intention of smothering and that the collision was premeditated! Personally, I do not consider that to be the case! As a result of the rule changes following Maynardās crude effort, every player knows the consequences and that they risk getting time off curtesy of the review panel. If players choose to launch themselves off the ground, then they need to be certain that they can nail the smother and not the opponentās head!

Would you say the same about those criticising Maynard? After all, he was attempting to smother the ball. Yes, I think he got off far too easy, but his action did bring about rule changes which unfortunately have seen Kossie receive a suspension. I think that if the player chooses to launch himself with both feet off the ground and the smother is successful without making contact with the opponentās head, then fair enoughā¦but if the player mis-times the smother and in bracing himself, makes contact with the head, then heās in trouble.

I wouldnāt be overly concerned about the 5 day break⦠Adelaide get one day extra but they had the long haul flight back from Perth and their game was possibly a much harder fought affair than was ours (I imagine in similar temperatures?).

2024 MRO & Tribunal
I donāt know if itās been raised here, or even if itās worth raising, but shouldnāt Soldoās (it was him, wasnāt it?) head-on with Max have been looked at by the panel (or was it?). No damage was done, but it was a late tackle and he did launch himself into the air before colliding with Max⦠so if they are serious about removing these kinds of tackles from the game, shouldnāt he at least have been fined for the action (like they did with Rivers)? It should not just be all about the outcome!!

Sunday was a fantastic gig Rob. We had Richard Burgman from the Saints and Sunnyboys sitting in on guitar, Paul Field from an old 80ās band called The Cockroaches doing a bit of singing, Murray from The Wiggles (Paul Field used to manage them), playing some guitar, as well as a bunch of other people. So much fun and I am pleased to report that my energy levels lasted out the whole gig. Next one is coming up next Saturday at Smithās Alternative in Canberra (6th April).- 2024 Injury List
Yeah Rob, I did see that as well; from memory it was in the second half of the game (I was at band rehearsal and missed the first half), and Iām pretty sure (read 86.6748888%) it was not Oliver.- 2024 Injury List

Iām trying to avoid voting based on traditional rivalriesā¦I experienced the birth of one in the late 50ās/early 60ās (can you guess what it might have been? š). Iāve gone for Brisbane, who Iāve had a hatred for over the past few years, and which has grown deeper in more recent times, all at the hands/mouth of mostly one individual⦠Dane Zorko!!! Iām actually a little surprised that at the time of submitting my vote, I was the only one to select them.- Whatās In a Name? - a Comprehensive List of Player Nicknames
