  1. Shouldn’t that have happy faces? Or are they that much of a handful?😉
  2. Isn’t there a positive to be taken from these turnovers, in that the players applying the pressure that leads to said turnovers, are doing their job extremely well? So, what we have are players learning what is required to retain possession of the ball or successfully get it to (or be in position to receive it from) a teammate, while at the same time, we have players applying the kind of pressure that is required to create turnovers. (maybe I’m just a guy whose glass is overflowing, because I was too busy looking at the tap and not at the glass.)
  3. How about a Mc Adamia… that’d be nuts!

Unfortunately I’m going to be jumping back on board the ‘Chemo Bus’ in January due to my test results showing that my health has been heading south over the last three months. As a result of that news, I stacked our final two gigs with as many guests I could find who were willing to join in with our band. No doubt you won’t be familiar with some or all of them, but on the Saturday we had among others, Richard Burgman (Saints and Sunnyboys), Marcus Phelan (Brave New Works, The Numbers and Western Distributors), and Jonny Gretsch (Wasted Ones). It was a fantastic afternoon, the joint was packed, and I couldn’t have asked for any more… at least so I thought. On Sunday we played a friend's xmas lane party he holds every year for the residents in the street (we were neighbours until I moved). As usual I had applied my scatter gun approach to inviting musicians to join in, working on the theory that maybe half would front up… how wrong was I. Most did front which left me with the dilemma of trying to fit them all in somehow. There were Mick Daley (The Remains and Corporate Raiders), Terry Serio (The Elks and acting in various TV productions), Murray Cook (The Wiggles), Richard Burgman again (Saints and Sunnyboys), Dom Turner (Backsliders and The Rural Blues Project) and Bob Spencer (The Angels and Skyhooks). The accompanying vids were taken by a friend and I ran them through iMovie. The sound is not a great representation of what it was like actually being there, but it does at least give you a taste. These are the first time that Bob and Dom have played together, and they’re accompanied on bass by our guy Frank Grubisa (a brilliant luthier by the way), and on drums by our guy Joe Breen and his occasional sub in our band, Luke Robinson. Oh, and if anyone is interested, I’m selling t-shirts I’ve designed for my band; all the info can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1WgnFDSy1m/
  5. What’s with all of these father/son players popping up everywhere? I mean, my father was an aeronautical engineer, but me…
  6. I was hoping for something more in the vein of Hunter S Thompson!
  7. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to have home derbies in each of WA, SA, NSW and QLD, with the rest all played in Victoria? Would be better financially and probably better crowd wise.
  8. Yes, I think the confusion came from the fact that he doesn’t credit the photographs or make mention of where they come from. I should have made the comparison with what is in the MFC app, but hadn’t done so. Guilty as charged!
  9. What are the odds that the North game will be in Tassie.
  10. Oh, I hadn’t realised that as there are no watermarks and I’m sure he has claimed them as his in the past. Interesting.
  11. I expect that a lot of people who post on here are already aware, but there is a guy named Ben Carson who posts a lot of training photos (and is possibly an Admin) on the Facebook page, Melbourne Football Club Forum. At first I was thinking that maybe he’s the club’s official photographer, but I’m pretty sure (could be wrong though), his shots differ from those I’ve seen on the club’s website and to my eye are much better; they really are fantastic shots and more plentiful than the club’s offerings.
  12. I’d like something a little more obscure like, Rabbit.
  13. I don’t know if this has been asked before, but does anyone who’s been attending these training sessions, have any insights into how Chunk is adapting to the coaching lark, and if it appears that he’s changing up the way things are done in the midfield? I know we mostly get observations on players, so I was thinking it’d be nice to get an idea of what is going on from a coaching point of view.
  14. Or perhaps Mr Big or Biggy (for anyone who remembers the King Leonardo cartoons).
  15. They’ve discovered the meaning of life… this can only be a good thing!
  16. Perhaps he’s feeling a tad ‘sheepish’ (but not in a conspiracy theory way) after all of the brouhaha (now there’s a word you don’t hear too often) and is keeping a low profile. Regardless of what he is thinking, he’ll still give his all, as he is the consummate professional; and besides, he knows that in the interests of his ‘brand’, he must perform on the field.

Yes, imagine if it had been Brad Scott on the receiving end of that performance!
  18. hardtack replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, but if he fails, will Cox also be hung like Horse?
  19. @Demonland Can I please put in a request for the return of the Facepalm emoticon 😉
  20. I’m hoping to get down there with my son when they resume training next year… but QANTAS are making it hard with their changes to the frequent flyer program. Even looking ahead to January or February next year, if we want to use classic rewards points, the only flights from Sydney to Melbourne require us to go via either Adelaide or Launceston!! This ends up costing us 50% more in points. Grrrrrrrrrr!!
  21. Yes, I have the album(s?)…he also had a very folksy album out before that… his Donovan period perhaps?
  22. Social Media has been a godsend, but at the same time, it’s been one of the worst things to happen to society, in living memory (and for me, that’s a very loooong time). I love that I’ve been able to reestablish friendships that had been lost for decades, I love that I have a platform on which I can promote my band and share my music and photography etc, and I love that I’ve been able to build a great network of newly established friendships, particularly in the music arena (did I mention that I have a couple of my band’s t-shirt designs that I’m selling?🤣) That’s all great, however, there is also so much to dislike about social media. I dislike that it has given a platform to all manner of hate groups, empowering and emboldening them. Due to the fact that there is little done in the way of regulation (how do you effectively regulate a global platform?), all manner of conspiracy theorists, racists, homophobes, and every other lunatic with an axe to grind, now have a place not only to gather ‘virtually’, but to then organise and ‘take it to the streets’. Facebook and even Instagram do this to a degree, but X (and previously, Twitter) is a playground for them, with seeming impunity. I also dislike the ‘look at me’ attitude that seems to have been taken to new levels with the advent of the ‘new’ social media like Tik Tok. It’s become a [censored] vanity parade, but that’s just my personal take and why I dislike it. in terms of what this topic was started for, I don’t think that social media sites, and particularly Tik Tok, have much bearing on club membership numbers. I would hazard a guess that while some individual players may have large followings, the majority of Tik Tok users are not going to part with their hard earned (or pocket money - is that still a thing?) on memberships and club paraphernalia. Other than a relative handful of popular Tik Tok personalities, popularity is a very fleeting thing on such platforms… it’s just consumerism based on whatever is trending on any given day. Facebook has become a wasteland, for the most part deserted by the younger generation and populated by us wrinklies (thanks 3DB), so any promotion there, is just preaching to the converted (and attracts the usual attention seeking keyboard warriors), and Instagram is not, for the most part, a platform that people visit for information or sales pitches… it’s mostly for sharing photographs, short videos and memes memes memes (oh how I hate memes). The best promotion for our, and any other club for that matter, is to perform on the field.
  23. Saw him a few times with the Sensational Alex Harvey Band, and he had the voice (almost identical to Bon) and the attitude and swagger (and a Scotsman to boot). One of the best front men I’ve ever seen.
  24. Please don’t say it’s a song featuring Brian Johnson. I know I’ve probably mentioned this before, so at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I walked out on a free Canberra Day concert in the early 1970’s feeling ripped off, mid way through a performance by the band Geordie, of which he was the frontman (I won’t do him the honour of referring to him as their singer 😉). For mine, the only person who should ever have been considered as Bon’s replacement, was Alex Harvey!! (sadly, he too passed just a year after Bon).
  25. Yes, why haven’t these kids heard of Bon Scott??!!
