Farewell Alex Neal-Bullen
Not directly related to the ANB trade, but would the now delisted McHenry be worth the club looking at as a replacement for ANB?

Oliver Trade Rumours
Am I missing something? Where in what you quoted, does it say that Trac didn’t like Oliver’s behaviour?

Open Letter to the MFC
Unfortunately, that doesn’t give him a free pass, particularly when we exited in straight sets two years on the trot; if he can take credit for our reaching finals, then surely he can equally take the blame for our rapid exits and subsequent rapid fall down the ladder? I’m not calling for his head, but I think a little perspective is in order, and at the moment, Goodwin IS treading on thin ice. Pert however, if it’s true that he’s been undermining the Football Department by shopping Clarry about, and as a result of that, putting us back in the crosshairs of the media pundits, just as things were somewhat settling down, then surely he must not be allowed any place in a review of the club. In fact, if someone must go, I’m not sold on it being Goodwin, but I wouldn’t be unhappy to see Pert shown the door.

2024 AFL Grand Final
I agree with these two points. I’m not going to go slinging mud at Katy Perry as, like any of us, who wouldn’t jump at that sort of a payday, and even though her music doesn’t appeal to me, she can sing and she undoubtedly does have talent. However, I think the $5m could be much better spent, and a free round is a great idea… alternatively, make GF tickets a little more affordable so that the average person doesn’t have to fork out excessive dollars in order to get a seat. I do not agree with the idea that having an international act with a high profile is going to help ‘break’ the game overseas, as I honestly cannot see it ever becoming a dominant sport anywhere but here. Maybe it rakes in a few more dollars in advertising revenue, I don’t know, but is that enough to make it a worthwhile investment(?). I’d love to see some local talent given a go, but not the usual dinosaurs that they push… as much as I might like some of them, we don’t need to keep dragging out artists from yesteryear (Mark Seymour, Tina Arena, etc etc). Get fresh young local talent that could do with some exposure. It would cost next to nothing compared to what they’re forking out for imported artists, and it wouldn’t affect attendance as a GF is going to be a sell out crowd regardless of the entertainment.

Current Television
I watched ep 1 of The Penguin and thought it shows a lot of promise… very dark! I would highly recommend a series on Netflix called Move to Heaven, a Korean production about a business that cleans the rooms of the deceased. It’s incredibly moving and is, for me at least, one of the best series I can recall seeing, ever! Also, while on Netflix, the have the latest Godzilla offering that marks his 70th anniversary. It’s called Godzilla Minus One and is a seriously good film, not just as a kaiju film, but as a piece of writing, acting and directing; simply put, it’s brilliant!! They also have the B&W release of the same film titled Godzilla Minus One, Minus Color. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

2024 AFL Grand Final
My band is playing in Canberra on the afternoon of GF Saturday from 3pm, so I’m going to miss watching it. The challenge for us is to avoid any contact with people who might be following it during our performance, so that we can all watch it later on in the evening (our pedal steel player lives close by in Sutton and has Kayo), as if it hadn’t already happened. Fortunately the venue, Smith’s Alternative, has no TV screens on the premises. (how to advertise your gig, without advertising your gig)

Inktober 2024
Last December I decided that as I’d be spending a lot more time sitting at home, I’d try to get back into drawing, something that I hadn’t done for decades. So, I bought myself a nice Derwent A3 sketch pad and a ROtring Isograph Technical Drawing Pen set, ready to relive my days at Swinburne as an aspiring graphic artist, back in the early 70’s. Then, courtesy of the chemo (which no doubt people are getting tired of hearing about, by now 😉), peripheral neuropathy has pretty much killed off any likelihood of me reliving that particular part of my past to any great degree, but I am now considering using Inktober as a form of therapy, and to test the power of mind over matter; not that it matters. Thanks for alerting me to the Inktober challenge, as I’d completely forgotten about it until now.

Wade Derksen
Does that matter?

Wade Derksen
I think you’ll find that by ‘shut down’, he means that it should not be trade-able, but rather kept to be used in the draft.
-
James Peatling
To them I say, “Have at me!!” 🤣 Note that I did post at approx 4:30am, and I am neither in Perth nor a foreign principality, so I can safely say that I plead insanity.
-
James Peatling
I don’t have a clue as to Peatling’s value, so I’m guessing, but would this year’s pick 3 plus our future pick two, get Peatling plus Derksen thrown in as the set of steak knives? (I’m hoping we’ll keep our possible pick 2 (ANB) from Adelaide, with a view to improving our draft hand)

Expectations for 2025
I think this thread is probably better raised following the trade period and draft. As things currently stand, I’d be expecting a settled football department, line coaches who are across the nuances of the modern game, a head coach who has looked at, listened to and learned from our failings of 2024 and is preparing multiple game plans.

Hopefully it’s a sign that we intend to go to the draft with pick 5.

According to an AFL and Gettable (paid partnership) Instagram post made 4 hours ago, he’s talking to four clubs… Pies, Dogs, Blues and Saints.

Former MFC President Joe Gutnick calls to make club-shaking moves
I’m an atheist and all of my atheistic, agnostic, and believer friends, think that Joe has lost the plot.

Christian Petracca
In which case the AFLPA cannot have any real issue with the MFC, because we met all of the AFL’s requirements as they stood at the time. Their issue has to be with the AFL and ONLY the AFL.

As I was reading through the last few pages of this thread to catch up, this is precisely what I was thinking. We need to be presenting the younger players on those platforms that are used by today’s youth! Facebook is no longer a thing for them, it’s now all Instagram and Tik Tok… they want short, to the point, even zany, clips that make them interested in what you have to offer; then they will click on ‘Follow’. They don’t even necessarily have to be directly football related, but just show that the subject in focus has a connection to the club. I would even like to see them pay Brayshaw to come and do the Gus and Gawn segment again… it doesn’t need to be football related, but could be a good platform for exposing the likes of Kossie, Kolt, Disco, Windsor and so on, pushing their personalities more than their sporting prowess. Just my two bits worth.
