  1. The reality in my view is this: If his mental application is questionable at Carlton, with the resources at thier disposal for player development, what hope does the single WORST club in the league at player development have at turning him around? Yes we are looking to improve in this area, but our record in recent times is frankly abysmal. Our best bet, in our current state, is to be focussing on developing the younger players. The more seasoned players we bring to the club need to be able to hit the grounding running in terms of how they apply themselves. They need to be able to LEAD, not be led. A player like Yarran is not what this club needs in our current state.
  2. Actually, "Melbore" isn't that far off the mark.
  3. I think we should all take a repository and calm down.
  4. Hahaha...release the attack dogs! Don't ever change Benny. Or should I call you Trav? I could point out why most of that is a load of spin and nonsense but I know I'd be totally wasting my time. Incidentally, I never stated my allegiance. You just presumed who I support. In fact you've made alot of baseless statements there but i realise that's kind of your "thing". I sure as hell don't support this lunatic being elected into office though, that's for sure. Also, no [censored] it's predominantly a state issue. That doesn't mean the federal govt doesn't have a significant role to play in fixing the nation's health system including the state of its hospital care. Please. "[censored] views on footy". Interesting, cause I agree with you on alot of subjects. The natural conclusion being..
  5. I think any reasonable minded person would say that despite some mistakes early on, he now had them tracking upward. Their list is in good shape, and the performances of the last several weeks make the timing of this more than a bit suspect.
  6. Roos was never coming here anyway. No guarantee he's going to the paddles either, but you'd want to hope if you were a supporter that they have something in the pipeline otherwise it's a very harsh, and frankly reckless decision, especially when it's a club legend on the receiving end.
  7. Pipped at the post and looking at Laird's stats I think it's probably a fair call.
  8. Geeze the ways the Crows football manager carries on about Sloane you'd think he was Gary Ablett. "if we gave away Rory for the No. 1 draft pick or whatever it happened to be, I’d just about quit the game" He's a quality player, and I'd love him in red and blue, but Pick 2 would be more than fair.
  9. Absolutely horrendous trade. Hopefully no truth to it. Pick 2 for Crouch would be reasonable, but won't happen.
  10. I've wondered the same thing myself 'Yossarian'. I suppose we all have our quirks.
  11. It's gettable, but the weaker tail we have in this lineup could end up being the difference between a win and a loss. I just hope Khawaja makes some runs in this innings.
  12. Getting closer. I'd rest easier with Gibbs and a top 10 midfielder when giving up Watts and Fitz.
  13. Pick 20 in addition to Watts and Fitzy seems overs to me, but I'm sure a Carlton supporter would disagree. They'd be significant gets for Carlton. I think we could do better than that deal. Maybe a later pick if it really needs a sweetener.
  14. Sheahan: 2008, you're back in the headlines for implying strongly that Carlton hasn't been trying in certain games, at the height of the tanking issue. You backed away from that did you not? Libba: No I didn't back away from that. Players will always try on the football ground.. S: That's a given. L: Yep, so that's the misconception about tanking..they were managed in a different way. Now, I still believe that's something that occurred. I mean, we had things that were put in place. We had players who at the time were told, "don't play for the rest of the year, the last three of four games, you've got an injured shin", or whatever. And to me that's tanking, isn't it? S: Well, let's be clear here. I agree with you that no-one, even those of us who thought tanking existed have ever said the players weren't trying. What we say tanking is, is a football club constructing a team that won't play at its best, by either leaving blokes out, playing them in odd positions or taking them off the ground. L: Well that's it then. S: Did that happen at Carlton? L: Yes. S: So, for clarity here, you're saying that when you were at Carlton, there were days when Carlton weren't doing everything in their power to play at their best. L: If you're pulling players off the ground, Brendan Fevola at certain times, then I'd say yes. S: Did the AFL come to you and explore those claims? L: Yes. S: Did you stand firm on that or did you back away? L: Um, did I back away? I spoke to Rod Austin who was working at the time for the AFL. I gave him an interview of what I saw, and that was it. Then he basically just said "thanks for that", and then the next thing you hear it's via the newspapers, Carlton didn't tank. *shrugs* S: So your view is still clear in your mind that there were times when Carlton didn't do everything in their power to win the game of footy, which we would call tanking. L: If you want to use that word, or "list management".
  15. Oh dear. Yeah, "wiped the floor". Abbott was the victor according to Channel Seven and its raft of Today Tonight viewers, News Corp (massive shock), and Laurie Oakes, who is frankly showing signs that he's lost the plot entirely. The only remotely credible source that awarded it to Abbott I think was Sky News. Just about every other news outlet including Nine, Ten and the ABC gave it to Rudd. Abbott was a complete embarrassment. Just continued along the same path he has thus far, with all slogans and no substance. Granted, that approach appeals to simpletons, and those who said he won the debate justified it by saying Abbott kept his message simple. Yep, he kept it simple alright. Really, really, really, really simple.. I'm still none the wiser as to HOW he plans to strengthen the economy. and where he plans to find all these savings. What are his real plans with Gonski, or just education in general? What are his real plans for hospitals? What are his plans in aged care? (Oh that's right, "less red tape". I can almost hear the nation's elderly scream their praises in unison) How is he going to fund things like scrapping the price on carbon but keeping the assistance packages, and why does he keep giving the impression that its removal will have any meaningful impact to cost of living? Why do he and Hockey keep stating that they can't increase the GST without the consent of every single state and territory when that is not the case? "We have no plans to increase.." I guess we can classify that promise as "non-core". What are his plans at all, other than "stop the boats" and "no carbon tax"? Where are all these "real solutions" he keeps bullshitting on about? It's one week into the campaign and and already it's more spin, fluff and question dodging. I can't say I'm blown away to discover that you're an Abbott fan Benny, but I find the thought of this snake oil salesman becoming Prime Minister, with a bible tucked under one arm and a pledge of allegiance to the IPA tucked under the other, genuinely concerning. As should most Aussies.
  16. Well c'mon Ron, get cracking. And bring down a few stars while you're at it.
  17. There are plenty who question their selection as captains. You went a step further and made a thread calling for both to be traded now. You didn't get in trouble, your thread was locked, probably on the grounds of being mind numbingly stupid.
  18. Not keen on Yarran. Comments about him going missing for large periods are spot on, and god knows we have enough of those already. His best is brilliant, but his worst..
  19. Don't have anything more than that, but it doesn't come as a shock if true. Malthouse doesn't seem like his biggest advocate. Fair call, but at this stage whether I like the individual or not is probably at the bottom of my list of considerations. I want a better footy side to support each week.
  20. Rumoured that Mitch Robinson has been told his services won't be required at Carlton in 2014. Forget all the "bruise free" stuff, I'd be keen. I possibly think a bit more highly of him because he seems to save his best for when he plays us, but an accumulator who throws himself into packs and a match winner on his day, he's an attractive prospect at the right price.
  21. There's surely no way Garland isn't getting runner up. I assume we still don't send anything to the player for this? I also assume the above question won't be answered, cause questions in these voting threads never are.
  22. Look I get you want to stick up for your boy Mark, but defence extends beyond the back 6. Sure, they did admirably considering the amount of pressure they were under every week, but the team as a whole was a defensive trainwreck and the stats show that. But focussing on the back 6, Neeld brought in Terlich who can find the ball well enough but there are still big question marks over his defensive accountability. We are still short of a decent small defender. When Garland can't take the opposition smalls, they roam free. We could also use some more run and drive off HB. We look a different side when Watts plays that role but he can't be down there all the time because when it comes to stopping his direct opponent he remains a liability. In short, to say that Neeld "fixed the defence" is simply not true. Neeld didn't "fix" anything.
  23. Oppositions scored an average of 132.3 points when they played us under Neeld. I'd hate to see the number if he didn't "fix the defence". I'd take Williams ahead of Eade every day of the week and twice on Sundays, but Rocket at least has the experience and numbers on the board that the club simply must have in its next appointment.
  24. You have a unique take on things jumbo, I'll give you that much. I assume you've discounted the possibility that Choco is a proactive type. Nope, all for the cameras.
