We haven't registered an inside 50 yet. This is like a python versus a rabbit.
-
Fair enough, but it shows his quality hasn't disappeared, whether or not it was his best game of the year.
-
I tire of the negativity is all. I'm guilty of it myself at times, and as a club we're getting nowhere until we think and act positively, and that includes the fans. I was referring to the arguments in general against going after someone like Robinson, which to me are thin.
-
A heart and some courage. I just realised who we need to ask..
-
Would be a massive get as an assistant. Not senior coach. The club can not go untried, even for Ling.
-
He took the most marks of anyone on the ground today, Just admit you are nitpicking. To question his attack on the footy is absurd.
-
Another demonstration of your defeatist attitude, and besides the point. We are discussing his value and whether the club should go after him, not whether he'd want to come. Some of the arguments against so far verge on ridiculous. "I don't like him" - and? who does? Not skilled enough for Melbourne? Really? Give me a spell.

Are you serious in suggesting it was Gibbs? McLean was CLEARLY BOG.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

Another season falling to pieces at the death. Warms the heart. -
FYI, Robinson was clearly second best player on the ground today against Richmond. 25 disposals (11contested) at 88%, 9 marks, 7 inside 50s, 5 tackles, 4 clearances and a goal. Not bad for a dud with no skills who "picks and chooses" his contests. I won't say who was best on ground. It was McLean.

The poll numbers don't support that. http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/federal-election-2013/we-want-malcolm-turnbull-voters-say-20130719-2q87x.html Preferred Lib leader to Abbott, 51% to 16%. Preferred PM to Rudd, 65% to 35% (compared with Rudd being ahead of Abbott) These are the results of nationwide polls of up to nearly 3000 people. I think what say might have been true at one stage, but Turnbull's stock has risen considerably on account of who he is up against.

Always gave his all. Can't ask for much more.

Jack Watts - More Discussion (for those who haven't had enough)
P-man replied to dees189227's topic in Melbourne Demons
Apologies for being blunt, but what a load of waffle. He's 22, that's not a kid. He is accountable for his decisions and actions, and he chose the life of a professional footballer, no-one did it for him. The bulk of the pressure has been a result of being a number 1 pick at a struggling club, not from being mismanaged. He's hardly the first player to be in that position. Most number 1 picks go to struggling clubs, and they each cope with it in their own way. Even that [censored] Scully never had question marks over his attitude towards his football. In some ways he's held himself together well, endearing himself to younger fans etc. But his onfield performances for the most part have been very disappointing, and for that he must take some responsibility. By his own admission he hasn't worked hard enough on and off the training track, and considering the responsibilities that come with being the no.1 pick, someone people will look up to whether you like it or not, that plainly sn't good enough. If he was a a better club, with a better culture, no doubt he'd be twice the player he is. His circumstances have been that he isn't, and it's now up to him if he wants to be part of the solution or go the easier route. I don't think too many will be bowled over if it's the latter. He does have talent, and with his very best years ahead of him, he'll be a loss, but please let's save the "poor little Jacky" routine. Enough. -
I'm sure him getting into a dust up at the BDO would be at the forefront of your mind when he made a match saving tackle or kicked a winning goal. As soon as they put on the jumper, and perform, whether they're someone you'd want to have a beer with is irrelevant. He's dropped off this season, but the previous two he was averaging 22 touches (9 contested) and 5 tackles a game, and he's still only 24. At the right price the club would be crazy not to look at him very seriously.

I think there is some serious overestimation of Watts value in most if not all of those trade suggestions. Need to be prepared for disappointment if you think those straight swaps are realistic. He's probably worth a second round pick at this stage.

By the sounds of it his comments on the issue recently were worth somewhere between nothing and [censored] all. -
This is all you have really isn't it mate? Insult the [censored] out of everyone, and back that up with even more insults. I thought you did that just to troll the main board, but it appears that is just how you operate. Haha..how sad. It doesn't matter whether or not I think that, Treasury does, as detailed in their independent report that is the most comprehensive they've ever done in terms of accounting for all possible outcomes, to avoid the inevitable criticism that comes with these projections. Sure as anything, Abbott fans won't pay any attention. Treasury? Pft. What would they know? Pass the Yellow Pages.. Maybe just stick to discussing footy and talking up your "footy IQ". You're more in your element there.

Yeah, not disputing what rpfc is saying, just giving credence to what you were saying also. If they can give us possessions, we'll shut up...or something similar.

Ben, should we add "climate scientist" to your resume, just before "Demonland villain" and directly after "antagonistic [censored]"? Climate change is for "gullible fools". Precious. I'll have to let the rising sea levels know to quit faking it, Ben isn't buying. I was going to explain to you why Abbott's direct action plan is a complete farce, but given I'm dealing with someone who still believes it's all a lie, I won't bother. Incidentally Benny, did you have a look at the PEFO? On track to return to surplus by 2016. Not great, but a far cry from the doom and gloom reports being thrown around by the other side. Also, whilst you might form your opinion based on Labor v Liberal generalisations trotted out by dear old dad (Labor just spends spends spends!), you might want to delve a bit deeper. A recent IMF Report actually found the Howard government to be the most wasteful in our history. I can provide you with links if you like. The number of spending decisions worth more than $1 billion went from one in Howard's first budget to nine in his last, and the proportion of savings measures fell from one-third of budget measures at the start of the Howard era to 1.5% at the end. Expenditure increased from $197.2 billion in 2002-03 to $253.3 billion in 2006-07, or by an average of 6.5% a year. Under the Labor government, expenditure increased from $316.0 billion in 2008-09 to a projected $396.6 billion in 2013-14, or by an average of 4.6% a year (2007-08 being left out as it was shared). Had Labor increased its expenditure from 2008-09 by the same rate as the last four years of the previous government (6.5%), the figure for 2013-14 would be $433.0 billion, instead of $396.6 billion - a difference of $36.4 billion. And that's before we consider the GFC. Howard paid off the debt not by good management but rather by selling off assets to his mates and offsetting the 1.5% budget deficit with a 2% increase in federal taxes. But I realise you have your opinion formed. You probably attribute the mining boom to Howard as well, yeah? Labor is the wrecking ball and Liberal comes in and saves the day. It's that attitude that will see Abbott be elected, and to hell with his actual plans. Who cares what they are? Not important. He seems a trustworthy fella. Up with the times. Did I mention he's a Rhodes scholar?

Trenners has to improve the strength in his legs and his speed over all distances by about 200% if he is to be any kind of damaging outside player. His defenders downplay the speed issue, but at this level it's a big issue and there's no sign of it being rectified. I think Redleg(?) put it best - Grimes is a nice kick, the ball just doesn't go where he wants it to.
-
It's a fair point to consider though that once an outcome seems a certainty, the opposing team will drop off its pressure thus allowing the inevitable victor to chalk up the UPs. Chicken and egg.
-
What's your basis for any of that? How will the 3 other midfielders transform his game so dramatically? You've provided nothing to really comment upon. Also, aren't you the guy who described Grimes as "a beautiful kick"? It's great that you have faith in our captains, but they have alot of self improvement to go before they are even good players, let alone amongst the "most elite".

Jetta for Nicholson. It might have been one good game, but it was one very good game. Strike while the iron is hot and give him a run of a couple of games before the season is out. Would be sheer madness to drop Byrnes. Yes he had a stinker in front of goal but he got into a position to be able to kick them. Davis gets another chance I guess, but geeze he'd want to be better.

He's not really mates with Dank, is he? How was he "outed"?
