Watching Stef Martin play like this is a pretty tough pill.
-
Just got his first touch,
-
These are exactly the early chances we have been rueing in the close losses. Chipper thank god.
-
Oh wow. Wow.
-
Martin already showing up his knockers on here. Great goal from Deano. Much needed.
-
This season is bonkers. It really is anyone's guess as to who is going to take those last two spots in the 8.
-
I agree that we don't want to be seen as a retirement village, but by the same token every case should be judged on its merits. It's a refreshing feeling to have faith in those making these decisions.

Mainly the former. He won't be a certain starter. He will at least provide some competition for the youngsters and could be part of a transition towards a coaching role. The young players need players to show them how to train and play football. Coaches can only do so much. Experienced peers are vital and we are very thin on the ground. It's a yes from me. One year contract. This isn't Rodan or Byrnes. This guy was a star of the comp and his body is still holding up. He's someone you want at your club if you are in the MFC's position.

Players to target at the end of the year
P-man replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think Roosy will give serious consideration to offering ROK a one year contract. I was against it initially but if it may actually be a punt worth taking. Sadly we need to keep filling the senior leadership void until we have a set of leaders to take the club forward. That is just the product of poor decisons in the past. If he's getting 30 touches a week in the seconds he can at least still run, and he's obviously twice the player that Byrnes or Rodan were, albeit a depleted version. Not a great deal to lose imo. -
It wasn't even after the first quarter. The Lions belted them in the second as well. Some of the gaps in the stats narrowed but it was game over by halftime. Suns were undoubtedly poor but the Lions looked more dangerous in attack than we have all year. I'm not understating the first half against Port. It was woeful. We play like that and we're no hope. And i'd reiterate that Port were really ordinary for most of the day. It's funny that with our appraisals, I'm tipping for us and you against us
-
Yes I know the routine hh. "We'll smash them" etc, then come half time, they're all hopeless duds and Watts is the worst person to ever walk on this earth.. Suns were rocked by a team that was harder at the contest, applied real forward pressure and denied them easy targets (hence the zero marks in the first quarter). Their ball movement was slick and they ran hard all day. If they play the same way we have our work well and truly cut out for us.
-
Most people will be. Lions looked seriously good on the weekend. Rockliff, Hanley and Zorko are on fire at the moment. I don't think we were all that impressive against Port to be honest. The second half was better no doubt, but the first half was deplorable, and the opposition overall was pretty average. The break will help, and if Cross does come back that will be a huge boost for the boys. I'm tipping the home side, but not with any great amount of confidence.

We should consider ourselves fortunate that we're not under 30 and unemployed, and those who are have every right to be outraged. 6 months without receiving a cent. 6 months on no income. Following that when they eventually do qualify, a required 40 job applications per month whilst working 25 hours per week for the dole. Draconian measures like this won't just impact individuals. Businesses are going to be inundated with an expected 1 million applications per day, thanks to the self announced king of cutting red tape, and businesses have responded in kind by slamming the policy. The broader societal impacts will be almost certain significant rises in crime and homelessness. Policy on the run like this would be laughable if it wasn't so serious. It just seems like no thought whatsoever has gone into it. One can only hope that they will actually LISTEN to the feedback on the exposure draft, but I don't hold high hopes.

I know a guy on Facebook who knows the second cousin of a guy who knows the vet who looks after Frawley's dog, and apparently Frawley hasn't decided yet.
-
Some reporting on Roos signing on for a third year has made reference to Frawley's ultimatum earlier in the year, with a question of whether Frawely should now re-sign. The very fact they are mentioning it could imply some sort of onus on Frawley, whereas when you actually look at what he said, Roos hasn't done what he asked (in jest). Robbo was one who brought this up with Roos himself on 360, asking if the extension required Frawley to re-sign. But I agree that most of the judgement has been coming from supporters.
-
You made a facetious, totally indefensible comment, that you have since tried to defend. And are still trying. You should've just withdrawn it. You've chosen to make yourself look even sillier instead.
-
Playing devils advocate, I think the comments are, on the whole, defensible. The comment about Roos signing on for "a few more years" is all about the actual words he used. Roos hasn't signed on for a few more years. He's taken up the additional year, which was more or less expected. Frawley's comment I interpreted as Roos signing on to something longer term, which no coach would do, so it was a safe comment to make. And also one that was largely made in jest. The comment about loyalty being a big thing for a country boy doesn't obligate him. It merely points to his conflicting feelings about making the move. Like any player, he wants to play finals. He is fully entitled to that want after 8 years of service. Countering that is his want to be loyal to the club and his teammates. I interpreted the comment as giving insight to his thought process. If he does go, I don't think his comments will reflect as badly on him as the media and many others are suggesting.
-
I've got this image in my head that I can't seem to shake, which is Roos hugging players on the MCG looking as happy as Larry. Generally something you only see on one day in September. I don't know why but I can see it very vividly. Maybe I'm going loopy. Needless to say, I'm.not ruling out him staying on just yet.
-
lol...cause the Americans, Russians and Germans are always amongst the medals in the MARATHON. She was racing against African nations who dominate this sport for fun and came third. She is the all time Australian record holder. Your comments are absolutely ludicrous.

Six years of Jacqui Lambie... If it doesn't involve Tasmania or the armed forces, she doesn't want to know about it. Not the shiniest penny. But I will give her one thing. There is no filter, which appeals to many people. With the recent crop of "polished" media performers, I can understand how a bit of raw honesty can be refreshing. But outside of that, it's a scary thought having the Puppies holding the aces. To Ricky Muir's credit, he did salvage the Renewable Energy Agency, which is something I did not expect. Abbott wanted it dismantled totally, contrary to every respected critic's view of its fundamental importance (sorry to bang on with the anti Abbott stuff but these are the facts). Its funding has essentially been halved, but it's still kicking. So there's hope for the minor parties yet. 100% agree on the lack of leadership in both parties. It's a sorry state. The next true leader who arrives on the scene will be elected in a landslide. We will wait and see who that is.
-
Okay, thank you. I wouldn't dispute most of that, and absolutely agree we need to be prudent in how we approach the next few years. But the two points I was disputing was a) the state of the budget now, and b) the state of the economy now. Some careful budget management is what is needed. My personal view (not fact), is that the current proposed budget does not qualify as such.
-
Then please do so. It's Treasury and Finance. It's not some bloke out of the Yellow Pages. If you can find one economic analysis that stated pre-election it would take GENERATIONS to pay off the debt, I'm very open to reading it.
-
As for our economy, we have a triple A credit rating. Albeit in an environment where the economy is transitioning away from the mining boom, at a time when global economic growth is stifling, but still, indicators show a strong economy. Hockey himself has come out and stated the truth to a NZ audience that there is in fact no economic crisis. These are the basis for my saying we are travelling just fine.
-
DC, I'm not inclined to want to repeat myself when my views are in print for you to review. I've explained why it's crap. I pay attention to expert opinion. Treasury and Dept of Finance produced independent pre-election assessments of the fiscal and economic environments that forecast smaller defecits up until 2016-17, when the budget would work its way back into surplus. So unless you're going to argue those reports were corrupted, it's crap. Saying his grandkids are going to pay off a debt is nonsense. Isn't it? What do you think? Abbott's fiscal policy is the one that should come under scrutiny if the debt is to widen. It didn't need to. He is the one that has done things like tear down the carbon price scheme and kept the compensation measures. So again, what do you think? Tell me how I'm twisting/overlooking facts.

Rating our list - guess how many A-graders?
P-man replied to Deespicable's topic in Melbourne Demons
I just think some of the rankings are confusing. On what basis is Hogan C grade? No matter how good he's looked in the VFL or a pre-season game, he's yet to debut. Conversely, if he's C grade, how on earth is JKH, whose shown plenty, D grade? Why is Michie E grade?? He's still pretty wet behind the ears as well. The wait and see players shouldn't be graded at all, because we don't know yet. I'd agree that Jones is our only A grader. Aspect of Frawley's game are A grade, but he is not a rounded A grader.
