Ah, but why is Roosy playing him then? Answer me that Ox!! Now you're stuck between a rock and a hard place aren't ya?? On the whole I agree with him. He does lack urgency, he is treading water, and it isn't working. I would lean towards giving him another year under Roos. Just. If we're at this point again next year it becomes a much easier decision, the problem being that by that stage I'm not too sure what we'd get for him.
-
The messy ending doesn't undo the years of service he gave prior to that. Well done Beamer.
-
Not an attack but still unfair to be calling his attitude into question imo. He's a first year player entering round 21 of the season who has played more the games this year than Salem and Barry combined. He is going to show signs of fatigue.
-
We should belt them and I hope we do just that. Salem for M Jones the only change I'd make, but no changes seems likely. Agree that JKH needs another run. He was poor but I don't think he was dreadful. He needs gametime. We did look a defender short at times with both Grimes and Terlich out of the side. Watts isn't a defender and Barry is a couple of games into his career. Will be interesting to see what Roos does this week.

Cheers mate, appreciate that.

Jets storms into fifth spot, polling 10 votes or more in an amazing 8 from 13 games, playing as a small defender. Cross and Jones the only two ahead of him for consistency in attracting votes. Basically if Nev Jetta isn't your favourite player at the moment, you're doing it wrong. Maximus Gawn the other big mover, entering the top 20 with a stellar performance against the league leaders. Gut wrenching sums it up pretty well.

After beating us in our hometown, the Lions have suffered their biggest EVER defeat at the GABBA.

Smilegate might be a non-issue, but Watts is no workhorse. There was an instance where he was coming off the halfback line, handballed it off, and then just casually jogged ahead and eventually stuck his arms out. Other players sprint to create an option. Watts barely breaks into a sweat. The amount of times you see him jogging around nonchalantly is alarming for a player at the elite level. Couple that with his complete lack of intensity and hardness and you have a passenger. When his decisions then also become questionable (e.g. balking in front of goal and handballing to Viney who gets tackled) he goes from partial liability to total liability. How much longer are his efforts going to be defended? ANOTHER 6 years? All these excuses of "he's too smart to run there" or "he's been played in too many positions" have run dry. If he plays like this for another couple of years, his worth on the trade table will be next to nothing.

Players to target at the end of the year
P-man replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Mitchell is another matter. I'd part with Pick 20 for him quite happily. -
Loved it. Strong message about what he is expecting from the remaining weeks. Nothing but 100% effort (like we got today).

Rohan for Pick 20? Yeah nah. -
Harmes and Salem are the only two players of genuine interest, and both were among the bests.
-
6. Gawn 5. Jetta 4. Tyson 3. Howe 2. Frawley 1. N Jones
-
What did do you expect out of today? Honestly? Today could've been much, much, much uglier than it was. You need to be realistic. We are not in Hawthorn's league right now. We're on a path forward, we just lack the cattle.
-
And yeah the commentary today was absolutely pathetic. They treated the entire game as a joke and made no effort to hide it. Chatted over the top of Melbourne passages of play and actually called the game when Hawthorn had possession. Brad Johnson is just an annoying little plonk. Zero premierships last time I looked. Back in your box you giggling fool. And Dermott just shouldn't be let anywhere near a microphone for Hawthorn games.
-
Kicked more than 4 goals. More than double that actually. Unlucky Tony Shaw. More than halved the howlers from last week and cracked in hard all day. No easy possessions. Pretty much all even in the second half which against a team like Hawthorn is a great effort. As a contrast, the Bulldogs got blown away in their second half. Far too many easy goals leaked out the back which I'm sure Roos will address. Composure in the forward half is still an issue. Gawn the obvious highlight. Terrific game from the big fella who is going to be a big part of the next successful Melbourne side, which hopefully is only a few years away. Overall, a lot more to be happy about than last week.
-
Overall they have done well today. Honest but outclassed.
-
Ed and Dermott have giggled their way through this match like a pair of schoolgirls.
-
Jets, who else?
-
Geeze we have butchered some opportunities. Could easily be a 5 goal game going into the last change which I would've taken at the start.
-
Need to look to offload Watts. It's been fun but it hasn't worked.
-
I think they're competing for who can be the bigger condescending [censored].

Maximus!

I seriously love Nev Jetta. Crossy welcome back. Barry getting amongst it. A sign of fight there. It's something.
