  1. Interesting to hear that they're already working on skills, not to mention The New Game Plan.
  2. Astonishing! It doesn't matter if he was the passenger or the driver. It doesn't matter if he was even in the car or anywhere near it. That's not why he's been disciplined. He's been disciplined because he was out drinking till 6 a.m. on a training day. If alcohol wasn't involved, he wouldn't be sent for alcohol counselling. Read over what the club and Neeld said, it's pretty clear.
  3. Neeld: "We spoke with Colin and my message is elite-level programs require elite-level preparation and he didn't do that. That's the message" For those calling for harsher penalties, not to argue the point, but the club noted that Colin was dropped from the International series. OK, some here may have doubts about how serious that is, but the clubs and players involved take it pretty seriously, and it's at the very least, a fairly public dismissal. Lots of "Sylvia dropped from Aussie squad after Boozy weekend" and "Bad Boy Colin Sylvia axed from International Squad" headlines.
  4. There was something mentioned in another thread somewhere. Don't quote me, but it seems that it has come up much better than expected and that he'd be able to start full training in the New Year, and should be right by early in the season. Not by round 1, but a reasonable slab of the season is how I understood it. Of course, physical healing is only half of it, getting everything else back up to AFL level is something else again - as we saw with Blease.
  5. I for one, have a a bit of a problem reconciling the constant call round here for the players to be harder and more professional in the way they play and prepare, yet when someone goes and does exactly the opposite, it's somehow acceptable or minimised. Toughness isn't about biffing players behind the ball, then boasting about it to your mates over a beer or three.
  6. It's BECAUSE it's 4 months away that it's going to hurt that much more. He has to carry it for the whole pre-season - and during that period, isn't going to forget it for a single day. Penalty matches the crime - though a period training away from the players could have been thrown in for good measure. He's had his chances. Pretty devastating to see IMHO, especially with the new regime, and Beamer's call to him at the Bluey presentation.
  7. Can't believe some of the posts here. Actually ... I can, typical. Congrats to Brad. Being captain of an Australian team in any sport, under any circumstances is an achievement. There are 24 - no wait, 23 players in that squad, and if Brad wasn't the best candidate, Eade would have picked someone else.
  8. Maybe, but it'll only take a couple of injuries to shorten that list. We need 30 good, solid players to be serious contenders, and if Dunn is number 29, so be it. Think we should see what happens under the new coaching team, and he can be moved on when his contract runs out in 12 months if surplus to requirements. Like a few others ... could be a big year in 2012, in more ways than one. Even Green only has a one year contract.
  9. But were there really any feasible key forward targets? Experienced KP players that are ready to go, and bring us something additional to what we have with players like Cook, Fitzy, Newton (I know, I know) etc. etc.
  10. No he won't, he'll end up where he wants to go. First up he'll put a price on his head that will discourage most clubs (even if they could fit him in their cap), then he'll just refuse to go where he doesn't want to. Luke Ball is exhibit 1. You can't make players go where they don't want, and for the moment, he has given strong and substantial personal reasons for needing to go back to Perth. It's got nothing to do with what we offer Brisbane, or his feelings about MFC. MFC is not in W.A., that's all that matters.
  11. We're doing the right thing in enquiring, but if he wants to go back to Perth, he wants to go back to Perth. Nothing to see here I would have thought.
  12. They are if he wants more money and it won't fit in their cap.
  13. GC offered pick 4 plus a compo pick ... and Adelaide offered pick 10 plus a compo pick (taken after their first pick, so presumably, a better pick than what we could offer). On both counts we lose out. Only possible way to win here, without getting into giving draft plus TWO compos, would have been if they'd wanted a player - Warnock for example. Which they didn't. Starting to feel that the GWS strategy is to finish at the bottom of the ladder for a couple of seasons, to make sure they can keep on getting the best picks. Tanking anyone?
  14. ... which, according to the press, is what we offered. So where's the problem? Bizarre thread overall though. No untried player, let alone a 17 year old, is worth 3 first round picks, which is what some people are suggesting. And for all those jumping up and down about "top 2 picks", it's only the mini-draft, one year in advance, for a small selection of the total of 17 year olds who'll be available next year. Whether Crouch and O'Meara would have gone top 5 once everyone was included and a year down the track, we'll never know. Be good to keep a bit of perspective on this.
  15. Hard to see how more positive projections are any less "real world" than your consistently negative ones. Even in the real world, teams go up and down. Look at WCE this year ... pretty well same cattle, same coach, same everything, and wooden spoon to finals. Reverse is true of Adelaide.
  16. There's nothing to say at this stage that Crouch and/or O'Meara would end up in the top 2 or 3 in a full draft (next year). The presumption is that they'd be top 10, but a year is a long time in footy, moreso for 17 year olds, and there will be a LOT of other 17 year olds come into contention next year. Can't believe the negativity round here. Disappointment is justified perhaps, but Adelaide always had higher picks to play with.
  17. So, according to the Age: "The Demons' Matthew Bate was also of interest to the Dogs" "North Melbourne has inquired about Melbourne's Addam Maric, having already held talks with him." Anyone we want from North or the Dogs? Nothing solid in the papers re Warnock. Apparently we offered Chris Dawes a deal, but he's decided to stay at the Pies on less money. Still looking for a big forward apparently, not sure who else could be out there? Re the mini-draft, seems that we're in with a good shot re Crouch, less so with O'Meara, either because a) GC have more to offer or B) GWS are going to do the dirty and manage to trade him back to themselves - even though (once again) that's against the spirit of the process. These kids were supposed to be players they could trade for established players, not pick up themselves!
  18. Sounds like a pretty credible source.
  19. Ditto on Crouch, and don't know that it's worth throwing everything at O'Meara. GC could easily trump 12 plus a compo with 4 plus a compo ... but hard to see us not being second cab off the rank. Though for mine, don't know that two mid-ranking picks on what is supposed to be a strong draft (next year) would be worth it for one potential top 5 pick (e.g. Crouch). We already have Viney, who could easily be top 5 in any case, so with what we have in hand, we would end up with Viney plus 3 first round picks next year - well, as long as no-one else bids first round for Viney under the Father/Son rules. So, IMHO, player plus a compo would be all I'd be going for - though not sure it would be enough to get us one of the (probably) two under-17's on offer.
  20. That compo pick stays with the ORIGINAL club. It doesn't matter where the receiving club ends up on the ladder, it's locked into Melbourne's position. If we end up with Pick 9 next year, we'll be trading pick 10, not matter who it goes to. Confusing I know ...
  21. Booboom ... excellent! Back on topic, article in the HUN today, suggesting that we won't be very active. Too early to bring in the older experienced players, and we don't have enough trade bate on offer.
  22. Fair enough, but even if we go by past drafts, there are very (very) few "class" players that come up - except for players who for whatever reason want out. Richitelli, Burgoyne, McClean (cough cough) etc. wanted to leave their clubs, and nominated where they wanted to go. The vast majority of drafts are for players that are playing in the two's, the Warnocks, Marics (ours) etc. etc We'd all love to land a Goddard, but I think it's in the realms of fantasyland.
  23. And just to put some of that in context, there are comments here and there on opposition boards, on what a good pick-up Scott West would be as midfield coach.
  24. Fairly widely rumoured around the time Neeld was appointed as well. Maybe Eddie has backed the wrong horse.
