  1. Fairly muted reaction to all this from Essendon fans it would appear. Suspect that having the ASADA case go against them was something of a brutal reality.
  2. That'd be about right. On the other hand, regardless of what the club might have liked to say, the most important ingredient in all this is Howe himself. He had to agree to be traded, find an agreement with GWS on a contract, and agree to move to Western Sydney. Not the kind of thing you put together in a second - or even a couple of phone calls and an email.
  3. Certainly probably ran out of time to be able to package that pick up with pick 3 to really on trade and do something to get "insert name player here". I don't know that pick 10 as a live draft pick would have been all that interesting given that we already had 2 and 3.
  4. Surprised no-one has picked up on this. Basically confirms that the Trengove to Richmond deal wasn't just speculative, it was all but finalised. "After the Armitage approach was rejected Richmond set its sights on Trengove but that deal fell through when scans revealed he had more damage to his foot. “We were all set to go in a lot of ways but the last scan just showed that it wasn’t looking quite as good as first thought,” Richardson said. “We were disappointed about that because we did put a bit of work into that and Jack was, I think, pretty keen to come to the Tiges.”
  5. We're not getting screwed. Our coaching and recruiting staff identified a player we (really) wanted. We paid what we needed to ensure that we got him. It's what happens on an open market.
  6. We did in the draft period what Roos said we would, i.e. bring in some experience, so by that measure alone, a success. HL will be in our top 5, Garlett will be close to our leading goal kicker, and the FD obviously see something in Frost. So some useful pickups, with a very strong hand to play in the draft and PSD. Hard to complain, and no good lamenting what might have been. We live in the real world, not Demonland's fantasy construct.
  7. As if that's got something to do with anything. The guy who won the Brownlow this year was a Rookie pick.
  8. Meanwhile, over on a gws board, posters are complaining that they were screwed on Frost.
  9. You can't be serious (though I realise you are ....) The key to why that hasn't happened is in your own post - would the words "under-performing" have anything to do with it? Under-performing? The only "un" here is that they're un-tradeable.
  10. Lots of people talking about what Roos apparently said, below is what he actually said. It's a bit different to some of the claims being thrown around here - no mention of mids for example. Summed up in: "it’s going to be mixture of hopefully experienced players again and young kids." and .... "I’d like to bring in a couple more experienced players" "“My mandate is to make the club better and improve our list and we did that last year and we need to do it again in the off-season.” “I think a lot of it is getting through the trade week and just seeing what you end up in the trade week,” he said. “I don’t think we want to end up bringing in another seven or eight young kids – the Melbourne fans have seen that. We’d like to get some real high quality kids like we did last year. “We felt we did really well going into the draft last year and did really well in trade week, so I think it’s going to be mixture of hopefully experienced players again and young kids. “It’s hard to say absolutely until we get through trade week, in terms of numbers, but I think there will be a significant change to the list.” But Roos said the potential to recruit players with AFL experience again – a la Daniel Cross, Bernie Vince and Dom Tyson last year – was a priority. “I think so. I think Melbourne fans and maybe St Kilda fans can talk about a couple of years rebuilding because they’ve been in a couple of grand finals and my responsibility is to clean up the six or seven years [at Melbourne],” he said. “I don’t think Melbourne fans are going to cop rebuilding again – even though they know where we’re at. “I’d like to bring in a couple more experienced players and add to our squad and hopefully jump up the win/loss column – no question about that.” “My view is that all of your players are tradable and all of your picks are tradable. Last year, we did very, very well out of it with Dom and Christian,” he said
  11. Flogging a dead horse Nasher. (commendable effort though ....)
  12. Think it's pretty obvious why everything would hinge on the Trengove deal, as shown by the almost unanimous comments that "2 and 3 is overs" for Kennedy. 2 and 12 (or 3 and 12) would have been a very different kettle of fish. Or fowl.
  13. Or not. Perhaps - just putting this out there, radical ideal I know - just perhaps, there was no conspiracy. But nah, probably too obvious.
  14. Might I suggest that anyone shown to be deliberately posting misinformation receive a holiday?
  15. FWIW, Swans supporters outraged that it would "only" be 2 & 3.
  16. More than three ... we just as often have to satisfy the player's wife/partner, other players in our own club, player managers, the AFL etc. etc.. Very long list.
  17. A few posts on BF from (different) Richmond supporters who "have spoken to people": deal is OK/done, but won't be announced today out of respect to Flower's memorial service. Make of it as you will.
  18. Dons face China crisis as case against players set to be presented Game set and match you would presume. Only question is how long the bans will be, and whether or not Hird falls on his sword as promised.
