  1. Cracking 25,000 looks great on paper. However, how much is our club benefitting finanfially from memberships compared to previous years if 3,000+ of those are $40 associate memberships? I'm guessing an average price for a MFC membership is around three times what the MCC/MFC associate membership costs, so the 25,000 figure may not be as glorious as it first seems. On the other hand, I'm sure that the more members we have the easier it is for us to sell our club to potential sponsors, which may be the real benefit of a higher membership figure.
  2. 'Injured Demons cleared' - Brock out for six weeks. Hrm
  3. PJ is a better forward than ruck IMO. Having said that, I'm not sure he has massive potential as an AFL forward either.
  4. We're more likely to win a premiership in 4+ years than in the next few. Our backline is suspect and key backs don't grow on trees. We also lack a decent ruck duo, with White on the decline and Jamar/PJ looking like they'll be decent at best.
  5. Not sure about that. I was reading about an Indian spinner who bowled them to victory with a broken foot, so I think it'd be possible to hop to the boundary.
  6. Has been good for the MFC, despite some comments from a few fansite pundits. Shame about the new ruck rule as he was very good for a while there.
  7. Missing both McDonald and McLean would be a big blow to our engine room. It looks like they'll have a few out, so I guess it could be worse.
  8. Some people are pretty certain that x player would make a brilliant captain, while y would be truly terrible. I feel that trying to judge a player's captaincy potential from the grandstand - or TV - is almost akin to judging the quality of a car by having a look whenever you see one out on the road. FYI - Neitz is on record (last year iirc) as saying he'd like to hand over the captaincy while still playing, and play at least a year under the new leader.
  9. Haven't won one in 40+ years so it's a fair call When it comes to the team they barrack for, some people take things too much to heart...
  10. The tone is a little harsh there - I think it's to be expected that a host of our young kids make way for legit best-22 contenders coming into the end of the NAB competition.
  11. Even though this post is from '06, it's a nice segue into my comments. We're more likely to win a flag in 3-5 years than in the next couple. Our more experienced players aren't up to scratch when you compare them to the elite at other clubs, but we should be able to replace many of our elder statesman. If we can find a big ruckman, and someone steps up to replace Neitz in the forward line (not necessarily with the same output as him, perhaps it'll be multiple guys pulling extra weight) then we should be in a better position than we are now.
  12. We definitely seem to lack options when it comes to small crumbing forwards.
  13. I'm pretty sure he was referring to Lance Whitnall's sister-in-law, and she seemed decent looking - particularly in contrast to Lance's wife. vs Anyhow, pretty sad that this is being played out in the media. I imagine it's rather embarassing for them, although they seem happy enough to make comments to various media outlets.
  14. Not sure if this was a serious question, but it's at the ground formerly known as Optus Oval (and before that, Princes Park). I'd go along, but I'll be playing cricket.
  15. Unfortunately I'm finding it hard to be interested in articles like this these days. My eyes started glazing over when reading about the presentation listing our younger generation and how we have potential with our younger players. Today it's ND, but tomorrow I could read exactly the same from one of 15 other blokes to be honest. Anyhow, ND's assertion that the sky won't fall in when our verterans leave us is pretty much where I was going when I created a thread on how our premiership 'window' wasn't now, but in a few years time when guys like McLean and Bate are at their peak. Our more experienced players probably aren't good enough to bring home the bacon, but you never know - and that's one of the great things about footy.
  16. Considering Demons supporters on this board can't even agree on whether certain players had a great game or a shocker in any given match, I think it's a good effort. White may struggle against the very best rucks in the comp these days, but if he falls over we're in big trouble.
  17. Voss was pretty poor in terms of timing etc, but he's pretty inexperienced so perhaps he'll get up to a decent standard.
  18. Once you start betting on a sport you compete in it could be a slippery slope - particularly if you were a compulsive gambler with financial troubles. Having said that, from what I've read most of the bets didn't sound sinister in nature (ignoring any 'inside info' the guys may have had access to as AFL players that the public don't get).
  19. I'm sure the MFC staff have NOTHING better to do than hear about how Essendon sent you some promo material Unless Essendon somehow got MFC member details and decided to send out letters to them - which would stupid and not just in a business sense - I doubt they'd care. What's the common thread with you guys? Someone suggested the forum but I find it odd you'd give your address when signing up on a forum, although it could be just me =p
  20. Interesting discussion. After the '06 season I created a thread that asserted that while we could be optimistic about the forseeable future, I didn't think our flag 'window' was in the next couple of years. We may have more than our fair share of elder statesmen, but I don't think too many of them are crucial to our success... Neitz (aged 32 in 2007) McDonald (31) Bizz (31) Brown (31) White (30) Ward (30) Pickett (30) Holland (30) Yze (30) Robertson (29) Nicholson (29) Compare this to the guys at the other end of the spectrum (22 or under last year): Sylvia Jones McLean Bate Bartram Moloney Rivers Bell Chris Johnson Dunn PJ Warnock Newton Buckley Neville James Frawley Ricky Petterd Colin Garland Isaac Weetra It can be easy to be blinded by potential at times, but I feel that provided we find/develop a bona fide key forward to take over from Neitz we'll only be a stronger team. The ruck division seems a concern, but it does seem that White is now past his best. Apart from that I think that while we have some great MFC servants departing over the next few years, we should be able to fill the gaps and strengthen our team. Our midfield potential is most exciting, with JMac to exit while McLean, Jones, Moloney, and others continue to develop.
