  1. Bit of a misquote there mate, and I don't think rpfc necessarily meant it literally as being exactly pick 50 as opposed to exactly pick 34. All drafts vary in quality - we all know that. Hows things going with recruiting Luke Ball? Have you made that sponge cake in the shape of his head yet..?
  2. Download Flip4Mac from the apple website. That'll do it. At the moment for some reason the videos on the AFL website won't work, but the bigpondvideo AFL videos do, if you get what I'm saying. (same video, but from a different site) Nice work on the future CHF.
  3. Nev Jetta is no mug. If there was a choice between him and Bartram, Cheney or McNamara I know who I'd take. And don't forget that 2003 was regarded as a weak draft but Sam Fisher was taken at pick 55 and Rischitelli at 61. Even Brad Sewell, Joel McDonald and Matthew Boyd were taken in the rookie draft that year. Being a weak draft doesn't preclude you from being able to find a gem with a later pick. The odds might not be on your side, but i'd roll the dice rather than persevere with a player who has pretty much been measured and found wanting.
  4. St Kilda's list manager may be in NY but that doesn't mean he's speaking to Ball. In fact, Ball might be quite annoyed by attempts to contact him against his wishes whilst he is away trying to have a break from all things football. If Drain pushes too hard to see him it may backfire. And I think considering how it has played out, regardless of what occurs in NY, Ball will come back prepared to sit down with MFC and give them a chance to show him what the club is all about.
  5. No, I'd agree with that to an extent. He may have been a leader, or at least, possess some leadership skills... but he seemed a bit of a lone wolf to me at times. Just a feeling I got.
  6. You may pay out the money owed for that contract, but you ignore the impact upon that player's future earnings. Managers would seek further assurances from you and better compensation for their clients as you'd be seen as more likely to pay-out contracts in the future.
  7. Technically you're correct in some areas. But you conveniently ignore the concepts of IR and best practice. Take a wholistic approach to the argument. I'm afraid if you were in charge of MFC's list management you would run the club into the ground with this attitude.
  8. That's what I'm wondering... What he looked athletic? Moved well as he got into his seat? Negotiated the airport traffic with ease?
  9. Rival schools of thought on leadership maybe, nothing more.
  10. I don't see what's wrong with it. It showed solidarity. It pleased the supporters. It showed leadership. It fortified a clear message to the player group. Brock wouldn't be proud of walking out on his mates - hearing Beama say that would most likely make him feel like sh**, albeit momentarily.
  11. I think in terms of AFL players the phrase 'honouring a contract' takes on extra meaning, that being of seeing a contract through to its completion as originally intended. Buying out of contracts is not good practice and doesn't really work in the favour of either the club or the player except for in extremely special circumstances. These are not special circumstances. It is merely a routine circumstance of a club trying to find room on its list. To buy out contracts now just to squeeze in another draft pick would cause untold damage to the club, even if some don't realise it.
  12. You'd have to be pleased with that E25? Nice work Dr. Like the effort you put in. Re: Black, I was a little concerned that due to a lack of footage and exposure that he'd be over-hyped. Sounds like that might be the case. Also a bit disappointing that he probably wouldn't be able to do the bulk of ruckwork at AFL level, but I should've known that just looking at his height.
  13. To paraphrase the man himself: He was momentarily gutted when told by his manager he'd been traded, but then when he mentioned it was to Melbourne he was more than fine with it.
  14. I guess its cos he is. Good head on his shoulders though. I often forget he's a good few years younger than me.
  15. If this is a common perception of the average intelligently-below-par AFL supporter, just imagine how revered Bailey, Stynes and Schwab et al will be revered once we are in top4 contention again and have our off-field 100% in order. (if our current success is anything to go by) These 3 men in particular will be lionized.
  16. Through to the keeper. I was making a joke about Shaun Burgoyne being the last 'best' player to be made captain, because he was Mark Williams' first choice as captain but the board decided another player had better leadership skills and was better suited to the role. They may be right, they may be wrong.
  17. Doesn't surprise me. Beama is actually a very good leader. I'd be happy with him as vice and even captain one day if he progresses in that role.
  18. I agree. In terms of on-field performance. But not in terms of leadership. Nor in his abilities to perform the role of captain. You do realise these things are not mutually inclusive?
  19. "Just because you are a character, does not mean that you have character."
  20. Ok, because you clearly didn't understand I'll spell it out for you: The days of choosing a captain, based purely on who is the best player in the side, are well and truly over. The captaincy is chosen based on who will best perform the responsibilities of the role, and who possesses the greatest leadership skills. If that player also happens to be the best in the side, then that is a bonus.
  21. So... you're basing it on stats? Really? I've said the position is about more than just on-field performance. And are you saying with Green as captain we'd have won more games? You are the one who brought up this hypothetical.
  22. Yes, if you have that. But you don't don't pick the best player if they have inferior leadership skills to another in the side. That is what the position is all about. Otherwise it becomes just a title. You often find the qualities that make a player so good are the same ones that make them a good leader. But there are times when the captaincy is better performed by a player that isn't necessarily seen as being in the best 5 or even 10 players at a club. Worked just fine for Geelong.
  23. No, but I disagree with your assertion and I've put up an argument for my side. I'm waiting for you to do the same, but I fear may be waiting some time for a compelling argument from you on this topic... Winning games on the field? Ok, name which player on the list would've won more games if he had the captaincy. Waiting... If you are going to say he should not be captain, you need to tell me who should and give decent reasons why.
  24. The leagues that play there do alright too. When I played there was some decent talent getting around in London.
