  1. what's with the concern for his supposed 'introversion' is this a football club or Australian Idol? He is in our best players week in, week out, never gets injured, never hesitates to put his body on the line and is the most established senior player we have, he should have been made sole captain at the start of 2013. Frankly I couldn't give a toss about our captain's performance in the press conference 'yeah nah insert obvious cliche yeah nah' it is meaningless
  2. it's popular in the social media context because it works well, that's how things get popular. Here's another fun fact: the word 'like' is part of the English language which has been inherited by both the USA and ourselves. You're learning stuff.
  3. i wanted to like p-man's post that would have indicated that i found it insightful/amusing or agreed with/endorsed it in some way
  4. "To have a guy of his stature that's been involved in the footy club for 12 months and been playing in the VFL, where he played particularly well, I think he gets a jump on a the draft picks from this year," Roos said. "Where would (Hogan) be in this year? Pick one, pick two, that's what I'm hearing but that's irrelevant for us as a footy club," said Roos. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/jesse-hogan-must-earn-afl-spot-paul-roos-20131118-2xqan.html#ixzz2lGCQBcsA How good is it knowing that when we watch the draft tonight, we have already got arguably the best player from this draft tucked away
  5. mate go and ask Paul Roos and every other coach if they want their players reading this tripe. You will get 100% of them saying no... the reason is because part of their job is to control the psychology of the players although I must say I don't think it would do Wattsy any harm to know how he is regarded by many - might come out a little bit harder if he read it!!!
  6. that is the direct opposite argument to the one you started out with obviously you are just one of those annoying contrary types
  7. just because there is exposure that cannot be controlled because of twitter, doesn't mean you should add to the exposure by talking about demonland
  8. dude the players are under instruction not to read sites like this, for very good reasons. Many of them don't even read the mainstream footy media. The coaching staff is responsible for what information the group is working with. By telling them about carp on this site you are acting against the club.
  9. dude.. your argument is that we have the same return from indigenous players that we have had from non-indigenous, this is simply not accurate fair enough that you consider the pick they were taken at, but what about these blokes: Garland, pick46 Howe, pick33 T.McDonald, pick53 there are zero examples of this amongst the indigenous players, Davey gave us some good years though.. I concede also that obviously the non-indigenous late picks is a far bigger amount of players to come up with those examples.. also we should have had an absolute superstar in Jurrah but that didn't pan out the point is there is little merit in having a drafting focus on this group based on our recent history
  10. again, I am not trying to be deliberately antagonistic, but you haven't explained the link - the media and the club created some hype building up to his first appearance.. how does that translate to a lack of confidence since? He felt/feels like he has a lot to live up to, and therefore is afraid of making a mistake, so he plays without backing himself.. I don't know, I am trying to answer it for you? Can you clarify?
  11. What? None of them were top 20 selections, at no point has it been appropriate to use any of our top20 picks on them because there were better players available. I don't know why you would recommend we focus on drafting from a specific group that has brought a very poor return recently. Now I'll probably be called a racist I imagine, go ahead.
  12. but how has any of that affected him in the past let alone now, for you to say 'it still haunts him'? I have been asking for somebody to explain this myth to me for years: what is the relationship between having a big build up to your debut and your subsequent on-field performance?
  13. except for the fact that the last 5 or 6 in a row have been dismal failures
  14. Oh isn't he? I thought he had played plenty. I must have missed the first 80 times it was mentioned in this thread. We understand.
  15. god this shirts me he lies awake screaming about how he got tackled that one time and bounced up immediately to receive a free kick. It's like he was in Vietnam. get real FCS
  16. me too.. this time 7 years ago I was licking my lips reading about Cale Morton not much has happened since to restore that disappointment just a whole bunch of top20 picks at the club with zero of them becoming the real deal (yet)
  17. always liked both of them, didn't think they'd both be gone for such little output, oh well that's the demons for ya
  18. no Dawes cost us pick 20 but yeah its Hogan+Barry for Scully vs Martin i'll take ours
  19. thank God, I was starting to panic
  20. you know when you see a new thread and it is shyzen..so you don't look at it again... then a few days later you see it is still hanging around and has a bunch of posts.. so you think hey maybe this has gone someplace good.. then you check it again.. and its still shyzen
  21. All we said was that he was not a superstar, just a very good player. That's just a fact. To say otherwise is just pointless, baised revisionism. He was our banner player, but some of the others running around at the same time being banner players for their club included Buckley, Riccuito, Black, Carey, Voss, Cousins, Goodes, Kirk, Brown, Hird, Judd etc these guys won premierships with their clubs because they were a bit better than what we had to offer.. after 2000 the best we were as a side was to finish 5th in 2006. Of course that it is not on Neita's shoulders, but to me it demonstrates why we never quite good enough in the Daniher era... Neitz, McDonald, White, Johnstone, Yze, Bruce, Robertson, Green, Whelan, Brown - solid group of players but a cut below the best sides of that era. BH said he would be disappointed if Hulk is 'only' as good as Neitz, I don't know how anyone can argue with that. We need Hogan, Viney, Toumpas, Jones, Frawley, Grimes, Watts, Howe, Tyson, Fitzy, McDonald, Trengove etc to be a bit better than the group that preceded them or we will be just also-rans again. At present they are noticeably inferior (younger, of course) to that group, a group that could at best make week 2 of the finals. Of course it is 'silly' to put such expectations on a kid but let's face it, he is in very rare company - in general, but especially for us - when you talk about having runs on the board before even officially being at the club. How many 17-18 year olds have won the reserves best and fairest off 2/3rds of a season, the answer is bugger all, if any.. and it's not like he is some dime-a-dozen midfielder who may well not cut at it the top level, he is a genuine beast key forward, in terms of sheer probability there is very little chance that he for some reason won't perform at AFL level. We have stuffed up a few recently but in this case surely the hype is warranted. Sure, if he equals Neitz and gets a BnF, 2xAll-Australian and a coleman, that will be great. But if we want to see a flag in our lifetimes we need him to be on the level of stars I listed earlier, and get half a dozen all-australian guernseys and up there in the voting for the Chas etc. Of course it is not all on him, we also need some of our other young guns to break through the glass ceiling that has been over our talent for some time. Like I said, as far as 'raw product' goes it really does not get any better than JH so we really need to be able to capitilise fully on this one... and yes, if we don't, I will find it disappointing.
  22. you know what.. I think myself and some others are getting carried away.. I've just watched a replay and my lord, I had forgotten just how bad we are.. i think you are correct in that an extra 6 wins is fanciful indeed. Depressing stuff.
  23. I agree, Neita was great, but he wasn't quite a superstar, everything we have seen from the hulk promises more
