WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DOM TYSON

-2 years experience vs a new draftee is very positive for us -his highlight reel is spectacular, exactly the player we need -upgrades from 20->9 and 72->53 as a bonus absolutely magnificent trade MFC -
of course it is, it's about 20 seconds from goal line to goal line
-
sheesh come off it, he got 2nd most centre clearances in the comp, 6th most clearances in total with zero support around him

2013 Player Review - # 5 Jimmy Toumpas

was it his 5 kicks a match, 13th most ave hitouts or 8 goals for the year that removed all doubt? -
2013 Player Review - # 5 Jimmy Toumpas
Curry & Beer replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
exactly these are the same people who were like 'OMG we took Watts over Naitanui' fast forward one year you'd have to have rocks in your head to swap them fast forward another year it might be different again fast forward ten years and and tommy mac at pick53 or Howe at pick33 might end up being the MVPs of their draft stupid stupid stupid -
2013 Player Review - # 5 Jimmy Toumpas
Curry & Beer replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm going to keep re-posting this because it is driving me insane.. STOP mentioning Wines every time Toumpas is in discussion 1. Toumpas was rated higher universally and every club would have taken him at pick 3! (just like Morton, Watts etc) 2. We are not in the business of recruiting blokes based on who they are mates with 3. They are 1 year in to 10-12 year careers how stupid are you to pass judgement already 4. Every draft there are players taken at lower picks than others that end up better, it doesn't just go in perfect order 5. How can you determine the impact of the development program/coaching at one club vs another 6. How can you determine the impact of being in a top8 side vs a bottom 2 side? 7. Toomp has actually been OK anyway! He has gotten better as its gone on such a stupid point that so many keep raising, I wonder if it is all 13 year olds around here sometimes my favourite is when someone reviews the last 3-4 drafts, chooses the player that is currently considered the best and goes 'OMG instead of so and so we could have had so and so' it really is a mental process that defies belief -
do you actually involve yourself in any conversations or just go in to threads and dismiss them?

The myth of losing senior experience
Curry & Beer replied to Curry & Beer's topic in Melbourne Demons
no because he left 9 years ago.. how far do you want to go back -
both Oooze and Bruce were like Gary Ablett Jnr compared to the likes of Miller and Jamar
-
i think this phrase is used often enough that now we can just say APSUHB
-
spot on I reckon
-
45/110 for mine

The myth of losing senior experience

agreed.. it is particularly true for us when we have a history of blokes like Miller and Jamar playing hundreds of games for nought impact -

why is that funny -
no I am not 'really sure' because I didn't say that. Pretty obvious that Roos and the board would be advising PJ as to who is and isn't doing their jobs properly at the club. Obvious enough not to say.
-
sounds to me like PJ is trying to instill a culture where the entire staff knows you need to be pulling your weight or you are straight out. The timing of it is a bit of a statement on how serious he is. Just a guess of course.
-
as if 95% of their decision making is who will pay them the most we also have possibly the best coach in the comp now

I can only imagine the utter bile that was being posted in order for him to make that comment. Seriously how many demonland members would like to make CEO of the MFC? -

First of all I am not by any stretch of the imagination suggesting he is a 'misunderstood genius'. I am also in no way anti-Daniher, I don't know if you are pointing that comment at me specifically. It just annoys me how people have this tendency to just point the finger and whomever or whatever they feel like to blame for the failure of 2007-2013. As nutbean describes it, it is just too 'convenient'. OK well I wasn't addressing the issue of alleged 'tanking'. You are right that his fingerprints seem to be more on that - however, again, this is not a 'strategy' that many people here, or in the MFC community in general were opposed to. It turned out to be a complete disaster (because we created a list with no idea about putting everything in in order to win) but go back to the threads on this board in late 2008 and you will find overwhelming support, including from me, for winning few enough games to secure pick1+2. It just seems ridiculous to now look back and go 'gee it was all CS's fault'. I didnt say he had NO hand in the FD. I'm saying that the influence of Stynes, Bailey and Connolly are all holding more responsibility for that, and they don't seem to be bashed on this board. I agree actually in that there WAS damage done... although I seriously doubt JMac/Bruce/Miller's departure were much to blame for this, it was more the establishment and perpetuation of a loser's mentality that screwed us.. perhaps I am splitting hairs there though. -

well that's entirely premature. We have Roos, which is massive, but it remains to be seen just how fruitful that will be. In any case, the AFL clearly played a big part in making that happen, do you not think CS would have preferred Roos over Bailey and Neeld, of course, but it wasn't on the cards for him was it?
