  1. I think (hope) you are right there, a 50% increase in 'i-50s-to-goal-conversions', even with no forwardline has to be attributed to a more precise, measured overall quality of the nature of those actual i50 entries... which is all credited to the performance of the midfield. It is fantastic that the number is also 16% above the league average. The mouth waters with the big three down there on the end of it... not to mention there was no Watts, who by all accounts performed very well as a midfielder in the intraclub
  2. agree with you totally, except that this time it really does feel different. There were so many aspects of our performance last week that were pleasing steps forward from the last 7 years, and that was without the contributions of a large number of players that we would all be expecting to be amongst our bigger contributors this year. To show such improvement in our very first voyage under Roos really is quite remarkable. Makes you wonder how much it will develop as the year goes on and the players get used to each other, the coach and the game plan. I really can't see us getting less than (say) 7 wins this year based on everything that's happening.
  3. Collingwood star Dane Swan accused of welshing on payment to bashed cleaner MAGPIE star Dane Swan is accused of welshing on his part of a $100,000 payment to a cleaner he savagely bashed at Federation Square, leaving the man with a permanent brain injury. His lawyers say Mr Celano, who was working at Federation Square, suffered a brain injury that left him borderline intellectually disabled. Just the bloke you want mentoring a wayward kid.
  4. I know and they had 51 i was shocked to see that that means we got 1 goal for every 2.9 entries vs last year's MFC average ratio of 1:4.4 and league ratio of 1:3.8 and we were missing our whole forward line! how were we so effective? its even more crazy when you realise we kicked 0.7 at the start, then 14.4 from then on exciting stuff
  5. yep and allocating blame for our failngs extremely refreshing
  6. as discussed in another thread, 2.5 mins to go with scores level, we were under pressure and managed to take the ball from a kick-out, pass it around 23 times successfully and finish with a goal to take the lead into the final quarter. Such a thing would have been unthinkable over the past few years. Sorry but it was worth repeating!
  7. I'm being totally serious when I say that this will probably result in somebody at the club having a quiet word with JW, or worse a statement to the group: 'here's why you don't chat to supporters openly when they come up to you'.. you have rocks in your head if you don't believe the club is totally aware of what goes on at this website. Unfortunately the result of sharing things like this is that you make future insights less and less likely to re-occur.
  8. Don't see the slightest thing wrong with JW's comments.
  9. Correct Things are actually looking OK at the MFC for once! Enjoy it while it lasts peeps!
  10. it was q3 goal to bail really good pickup GNF I missed it at the time as did the commentary team, just watched it again from 2:38 remaining in the third: 2.38 strauss kickout barry njones georgio njones mjones strauss frawley mcdonald grimes (+50m penalty) trengove (turrnover recovered) cross vince michie strauss mjones grimes toumpas terlich frawley bail howe (via freekick) who missed a pass that was gathered by bail for a goal that's 23 possessions in a row... seriously how long since we have done that! even crazier is that 16 of the 18 on the park were involved in it!
  11. it's a fair comment - from my memory there ahve been few occasions where he has concede 3/4 or more goals and is often the case his opponent is gifted 1 or 2 due to a teammate's indiscretions, a 50-metre penalty or a downright dodgy umpiring call etc.. however demon31 is right in that as an AA selection in his third season he has not quite come on as we would have hoped
  12. It'll be a smorgasbord of curry and beer on that day.. mainly beer
  13. we lost 8 games by 48 or less last year so pencil us in for 10 wins according to Hannibal's mate :D
  14. General Ralph Landry: You know, when they forced Khruschev out, he sat down and wrote two letters to his successor. He said - "When you get yourself into a situation you can't get out of, open the first letter, and you'll be safe. When you get yourself into another situation you can't get out of, open the second letter". Well, soon enough, this guy found himself into a tight place, so he opened the first letter. Which said - "Blame everything on me". So he blames the old man, it worked like a charm. He got himself into a second situation he couldn't get out of, he opened the second letter. It said - "Sit down, and write two letters". -Traffic (2000)
  15. I look forward to the day Jesse is named captain and the headline of the sports section is your username!
  16. Despite the inherent elation about getting to watch my one true love in action again after 6 months, I am nervous as hell about tonight. Call it pessimism, I guess it is. Surely we are the one side in the competition that has the biggest element of desperate need for an improvement. There is a bubble of confidence and belief that is being expanded, and if we get completely smashed tonight (which I have a feeling we might) it is going to pop a hole in it and deflate it. Even at this early stage, if the side, the supporters and 'the footy world' come away from this thinking that the Roos+recruits changes have had zero impact it is going to hurt everyone a lot. I've recognised that we have some massive outs but if we are still a basket case it is going to be very bad times for the whole MFC community (damn I wish we had even ONE of Hogan/Dawes/Clark in not to mention the criminally underrated Garland down back). Of course we will all write it off as 'just a praccy', but really it does have a correlation with the season proper. We have seen it time and time again that our putrid preseason efforts have carried over to the home and away. I'm not deliberately trying to be a 'negative Nelly' but I really feel like that is what's riding on tonight. So I look towards it not with excitement, but with fear. Hopefully about 6 hours from now the things I have just written will be unfounded. My 2c.
  17. Good points except number 4 which was my comment. Admittedly I was not paying due recognition to points 1-3. I do not recall seeing him 'streaming out of defense' on many occasions, the way a player like Scarlett did, who set the benchmark for the attacking defender. Don't get me wrong I rate TMac highly, just wondering on others' thoughts about the seeming disconnect between his running ability and the manifestation of it on gameday. If you can run like that you would hope to see him find space with the ball in his hands 60-70 metres from our defensive goal line setting something up. Again, not bagging him, he is a gem, but being the best/2nd best runner out of 40+ athletes should be translating a little better for mine.
  18. disagree, in terms of sticking with his man and nullifying him with spoils - tmac is the real deal, it's what happens when the ball is in his hands that is an issue.. wouldn't like to see him at the other end of the ground.. one thing I constantly question is this: he is considered the best runner at the club alongside nicho, but so far we have seen almost zero application of this strength on gameday.. does that mean we are under-utilising him or does it mean that being a great runner means f all on gameday? should we be seeing him streaming out defence or what?
  19. agree with that in spirit but let's be clear: the side we take in tomorrow is short about 8 players, but they largely occupy vital roles in the side. We will probably get smashed but no matter which way you spin it the missing personnel is signifigant
  20. hah yeah as sad as it is, the culture we have gotten accumstomed to is 'please can we not be the absolute worst' hopefully those days are behind us, 20 goal loss for the lions to start the year that's gotta sting
  21. spot on although having no ruckman is going to compromise the output there obviously
