  1. that, or it's inherently a wildly subjective evaluation process
  2. FWIW the dude on FB who has the MFC supporter page seems to be one of those avid training attendees and he named his best trainers so far as: 1. Hogan 2. Frost 3. Gawn 4. Salem 5. T.McDonlad I'd be dee-lighted if that is accurate and that it actually translates into gameday value
  3. on a serious note, wtf is the point of that scooter for Trengove? Does he actually do handball drills with it or something? Seems a bit silly
  4. sooooo you're suggesting Spencer is some sort of softc0ck because he wasn't able to keep his feet when aggressively shepherded by a mature AFL player?
  5. I was there for about an hour.. all I'll add is that I am so pumped to see Hogan out there on game day - he really looks like something special. Saw him slot one from 45 or so out, very casually on his way to a drill, straight through the middle and the smiles of folks around me were something to behold! I was very close to Spencer doing a 1on1 boxing drill with a trainer and the kid has become a monster - should be interesting to see how this affects his gameday performance as he will not be shoved aside easily by anyone
  6. and from the 'media' who develops its content by trawling sites such as this and presenting it as their own views
  7. For me there are 19 auto-selects, and I've been tossing up who should get the last 3 spots out of JKH, Kent, Bail, Frost (more dependent on KP spots) M.Jones, Reilly, Salem, Toumpas, Terlich, McKenzie, Mitchie, Brayshaw and Petracca. I've just watched the last match of the year and been reminded that Kent kicked 3 and had a big hand in several others, being highly effective with few touches - he's a definite starter for mine.Looks a belter of a pickup for us at no.48 in the draft
  8. no he's not.. in the photos he is clearly rocking advanced stubble on the chin and upper lip
  9. No it wasn't, it was the player given the opportunity to explore his options, like Howie and GWS, Howie has certainly moved on from that It had nothing to do with 'giving him an opportunity' it was about netting us a marquee player and realising you need to give up something of value to make that happen. Whether JT understands that's it's just business or he he feels betrayed remains to be seen. He probably does (and should) feel that he owes us something regardless
  10. and IMHO has very little to do with actually being an effective player or not just ask Nicholson and Bail how their track dominance translates to an AFL field sometimes I think people forget this is football, not track and field
  11. exactly (can't tell if arguing or agreeing) it's been one year, hence his ability to impact in the AFL better than his colleagues - he's already built for it. May not stand out so much in a couple of years when the reed-like kids (eg Toumpas) have filled out a bit. Just sayin' the difference between Petracca and Scully/Trengove in their first preseason is remarkable
  12. Even in the face he looks like one of the seniors Without trying to be a negative Nellie.. I hope his dominance at junior level was not because he had a clear developmental advantage - others will catch up to him over a few preseasons
  13. Brilliant pics, thanks Petracca is a monster... then again, so was Tapscott
  14. and you could always argue that Tyson would have been even better with a proper preseason.. nobody can be definitive either way
  15. there might be a grain of truth to it.. but not if you are talking about a bloke missing a few weeks in December FFS the ever-increasing focus on sports science annoys the S out of me. If you are declared fit and selected in the side there should be no excuses, certainly not missing a few training sessions 6 months earlier
  16. and confirmed as the first golden ticket holder, allowing him to have a poor season and be completely excused by demonlanders citing the 'interrupted preseason' clause who's next
  17. to state the unbelievably obvious, with every additional year you go back in time you find a side that less resembles the current side, and its relevance to 2015 decreases accordingly. With certain 'jumps' such as a change of coach, there is a disproportionate, non-linear degree of change and a corresponding jump in irrelevance if you are saying the difference between [MFC 2011 and MFC 2015] is the same as [MFC 2014 and MFC 2015] then we have nothing more to discuss I would have thought it perfectly logical and self-explanatory that the OP and myself started an analysis with the beginning of Roos' tenure.. but I guess the response from some is typical of Pedantland there are 13 players left from Bailey's 2011 side. 6 of them played under 10 games that year. If anyone argues that is even worth discussing from a 2015 perspective, then I give up
  18. yeah I see that you have no substance to backup your useless point and you don't want to backtrack out of pride which is pathetic
  19. oh really? Explain to us what the relevance is then - 38 players played in 2012 and 24 of them are no longer with us. That's nearly two-thirds. The coaching group is what 75%? new since then? Explain to us in your wisdom what the value is in looking at the stats of their 30 goal losses when looking forward to Roos and 2015 if we had a long-tenure coach and a stable list then it would make sense to look at the stats over a longer period but that's not the reality
  20. the fact you write 'lol' then write an ignorant, non-sensical statement is pretty lol
  21. um yes and the TEAM consists of the players and staff doesn't it? Why don't we just compare it to the Daniher years then if you don't see the relevance of comparing the same players/staff? Better yet, the Norm Smith era
  22. why? those years aren't relevant, it's a totally different side, coaching staff and admin
  23. huh? the bottomline for me is that we halved the deficit in Roos' first year and if we improve the same amount again this year we will finish around the middle of the ladder
