Casey Demons 2024
If we’re putting in requests then I thought Tarkyn O’Leary was unlucky to not be drafted and would be worth a look as an outside runner. As well as Sammy van Rooyen, who probably just stays at Claremont and goes through the grades but it would be nice to have him over here.

Welcome Back to Demonland Marty Hore
I think he will. And I’m not disappointed in him being on the list. Just a vagary of the system that you get to replace guys who are out for the year but you don’t get to cover guys who miss the first half or even more.

Welcome Back to Demonland Marty Hore
There’s either no such thing as the Long Term Injury list these days or if there is there’s no provision for it to impact list management by adding other players. The only provision for adding extra rookies is the Inactive List, which requires players to either retire or be ruled out for the season. In a cut throat world under these conditions we’d be better off not even having Melk on the list at all. Potentially drafting a different rookie, then redrafting Melk in the mid season draft if we get a vacancy to fill.

Jackson Haul - Just wait 5 years…
Couldn’t combine the picks to replace star with star, but used them on: - part of the upgrade to get Tholstrup who has some star potential - Jefferson who’s off to a slow start but has some rare skills - and mostly on Windsor who’s a very different type of player but could be really special if he’s developed correctly And in a year when there’s a strong midfield draft and at least some potential for the team to take a step back it’s probably good to keep our first rounder.

I mean, GWS were probably taking Windsor for need too! But if we had taken Curtin, Caddy or O’Sullivan it would’ve been labelled as for need as well! I do wonder if we had stayed at 14, which became 18 and taken Darcy Wilson, Charlie Edwards or Harry DeMattia and added the 2nd and 3rd rounders to our offer to Hawthorn could we have got them over the line to do 4 for 6? But I’d be even more nervous if we had taken Wizard Watson and whilst Sanders is a safe and solid option he might not be a big difference maker. At the end of the day we were the first side to move away from the elite junior performers or the quality talls (and Curtin fits both categories). If it wasn’t JT I think there’d be more questions asked.

Casey Demons 2024
Really nice kick of the footy, probably too plain for AFL but happy to have a close look at him at Casey to see if he can go to another level. I like the idea that he can play mid, wing or half back so he can be used to bolster the young demons rather than hog a role.

Welcome to Demonland Koltyn Tholstrup
I suspect Windsor will actually start forward and of course rotating on a wing and will give us some much needed added pace across half forward, especially when Pickett rotates up the ground. Not sure Tholstrup has Bailey's pace, he's a bit of a different style of forward/mid. One of Tholstrup's advantages is he can probably fill a lot of roles as a forward. He can play closer to goal as a goal kicker, he can chop our talls and compete in the air a bit, he can hit up higher as a lead up mark linking player. As well as develop in to a midfielder in time. I see him a little like the Rivers of the forward line with the way Riv has been used as the 7th defender who can cover various jobs. He'll give good defensive effort but not sure he has the pace to really be similar to Bailey or ANB for that matter. Sparrow's skills let him down at times across half forward but he's often effective there purely by having the athleticism and size to muck up contests that others who get stuck at half forward are either too slow or too small to be a nuisance. Tholstrup's size, burst and aggression couple with skills to back it up make him a nice match up for certain bigger half backs who have given us trouble in one way or another. No pressure kid but there's a certain Collingwood half back that we need to match with an aggressive big body

Oh gosh, put the curse of less important players please Schache and KFW would be perfect

Welcome Back to Demonland Marty Hore
Page 111 of the new CBA spells out details of the Inactive List and it only mentions players with season ending injuries becoming inactive and able to be replaced. No contingency for players to go on the Inactive List for a period of time before being reactivated.

He removed his name from the draft to sign with us as a supplemental selection once that period opens (next week I believe).

PODCAST: Jason Taylor Interview
Really good set of talking points already, if you get good answers to those questions it will be a great interview. Just some ideas off the top of my head: - Windsor: can he play on ball, half back/forward, how’s his contested footy, how do they track his game running/tank - Tholstrup: how do they compare WAFL seniors to the kids in juniors? Was he heavily on the radar with his Colts form in 2022. - Progress of the young talls - Ruck depth - the midfield succession plan with Rivers, Pickett, Bowey, confidence they can evolve their games - Shrinking draft classes and whether that’s related to the list sizes and if they should be expanded back to pre covid levels - lack of long term injuries costing them the ability to make mid season picks - The impact of ever increasing running demands and how that shrinks the draft pool

Welcome to Demonland: Caleb Windsor
Caleb's a right footer where as this guy wasn't but in terms of players who have played somewhat recently he reminds me of one of my favourite opposition stars in Stephen Hill. If he can be anywhere in the same ballpark of him he'd be a great pick up

The 2023 AFL Draft Thread
List spots, list spots, list spots. We made the call to not attempt to wind up or push out Tomlinson, BBB and T Mc. Gave Schache another year because we need a prime age tall to cover for the old boys. And we rolled the dice on Billings (and to an extent Shane McAdam). Otherwise there's very little fat on our main list. We'll open up plenty of picks next year (I hope anyway) in a deeper draft.

The 2023 AFL Draft Thread
There’s actually a fair bit there. Thinks both should aim to play next year. Pretty much says Tholstrop has work to do on his diet and could even improve more as an athlete. It’s interesting how he’s not shy at all about the trade up from 6 nor the trade up from 11. Watson/Sanders and I reckon Caddy could’ve both been on the menu.

The 2023 AFL Draft Thread
They’ve both been given enough start up concessions for 30 years and Brisbane and Sydney both do very well with trades. As media scrutiny intensifies playing and living in QLD or NSW will only be seen as more of an opportunity for many players. That said, I’m fine with academies but it has to be only 1 first rounder per year, and they have to be made to pay the full price. Ie. For Walter they should’ve been made to start any bid matching with a pick inside the top 8 (within 5 from a bid). You can’t have a draft with 30 first round picks. It’s a mockery and really hurts and sides like the Eagles. Nor should you have a club getting 3 (or technically 4) first rounders and paying for them with bogus pick after bogus pick after trading back 100 times and pocketing extra value each time.

Northern academy rules are different to NGA rules. It’s rubbish, but the NGA is a joke, the occasional light training run and that’s about it. Northern academies do actually develop players (not that they should result in so many draft benefits).

It was. West Coast had their future first on the table. Geelong chose 11 and 31 over the Eagles first (and other swaps surely)

Welcome to Demonland: Caleb Windsor
Same. I suspect there’s a half forward/3rd winger role that they’ll be keen for him to take. Use his speed in quick rotations. Pretty much the games Harmes and JJ played last year have to go to someone and Billings and Windsor are the 2 favourites. If Billings isn’t up to it then get the kid in.

Welcome to Demonland: Caleb Windsor
Wilson and perhaps Duursma were the only other players you'd class as outside runners. There's certainly a good smattering of pacey players but a fair few of them are half backs or small forwards. In a comp where every team is desperately chasing speed and skill I can absolutely see why we went hard for the best one we could get.

Welcome to Demonland Koltyn Tholstrup
So...do we slide AMW up to a more prestigious number and go with the Kolt 45?
-
Welcome to Demonland: Caleb Windsor
Doubts over his strength at the contest and athleticism. Read the quotes in the thread that say he’s pretty much a 3rd tall back. Not entirely sure I agree but you want guys who’s strengths are genuine strengths for their position. JT and co clearly believe Windsor’s pace, run and skill stack up.

After JUH they changed it to 20 Then after the saints got Owens and Windhager it went to 40

Can we still use pick 42?
Once again, WE DONT HAVE THE LIST SPOTS! this pick was spoken for when we traded for Billings. Funnily enough we gave them a future 3rd and got a F3 back for 42

GWS annoy the heck out of me with how good they are.

Cal’s tipped every pick aside from the trades and Gothard in the first 16. Teams and player managers all leak it
