Although he deserves to be dropped, I wouldn't be surprised if Howe is named, even if his leg fell off. Gotta get him to that magic 100 games. The Lumumba experiment has also failed. Time for him to just go. I have no idea what he is supposed to be bringing the team, but whatever it is, it's not helping.

Melbourne - Trash. Utter trash.

6th Best Forward Line in the League
Dr. Mubutu replied to Allen Jakovich's topic in Melbourne Demons
You've obviously never read anything BBO posts, nor waded into the T$B$ thread. I'm envious. -

This is depressing: We only have 2 All-Australians on the list. Jamar and Lumumba. Sauce: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2015-08-04/vince-lauded-for-allaustralianlike-form

A familiar celebration from Harmes when he kicked his goal on Saturday.... http://www.afl.com.au/video/smart-replay?round=CD_R201501418&matchId=CD_M20150141803&eventType=Goal&seek=5915&videoQuality=high

6th Best Forward Line in the League
Dr. Mubutu replied to Allen Jakovich's topic in Melbourne Demons
IIRC, we were definitely high up in this stat in 2009 under Bailey. I remember hearing about it in the last game of the season against St. Kilda and nearly falling off my chair. Leading goalkickers: Robbo, Bate, Jurrah. -
Frawley and Jamar, 2010.

While I wouldn't say Bernie is our best player, he is definitely top 5 on our list. The trade for Bernie was the very definition of a win-win trade. Adelaide were desperate to get a high pick following the Tippett saga, and we sorely needed someone that had any talent. The free agency that gained us that pick though......all I can say is: sucked in, Ross.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 18
Dr. Mubutu replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The last one I saw live was 5 years ago today. Doesn't help that when they come to QLD (which has only happened 4 times since), it basically costs $500 anyway. -
Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...
Dr. Mubutu replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
It was identified by quite a few on this site that it was a player/culture problem pre-Neeld. He was only given 18 months. Roos has overseen 2 trading and drafting periods by this point. Trisul has pointed out earlier in this thread that 23 players have been delisted, traded or released in this time. That's at least half a list that was turned over. Surely we should be seeing more of a culture change? I'm not saying that he shouldn't be given time. I'm just saying that we shouldn't blindly accept that it's definitely the answer given what we've seen over the past three weeks. Surely 18 months of full-time football training (because it is, remember that Roos was appointed almost 23 months ago, for an original period of 24 months) would be enough to see skills improve more than has been on display in game situations to this point. Again, I'm not saying that Roos isn't the answer. I just think that there should at least be some questions. -

I'd argue that if it is working, and the players actually looked like they'd been coached some skills, the players and fans would embrace the style of play. As it is, the team looks as unskilled and clueless as ever. I fear that I am one of the supporters that Roos refers to when he says that fans think: 'Here we go again'. If only because I've been shown precious little to think the opposite. -

If you can honestly say that, barring the Geelong game, your expectation was for this side to lose by 6 goals to St Kilda, and see the slop that was served up the last three rounds, you're far more pessimistic than I. Edit: Forgot the deplorable showing against Essendon*. -
Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...
Dr. Mubutu replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
How long have we heard this? How may players do we still have on the list since we heard this? It is the coaches' job to make sure that the players are ready to play AFL football. What I saw on Sunday makes me question that. -
Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...
Dr. Mubutu replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Is that such a bad thing though? If Paul Roos is worth what he's (reportedly) being paid, surely, at some point, the fans have a right to demand better? Last weekend's performance may not have been '186' bad, or even 'the first 3 rounds of 2013' bad, but it was still putrid. To improve, we have to raise expectations. I don't think asking questions after the performances shown over the past month is asking too much. It may be a knee-jerk reaction, but why should Paul Roos be immune when so many other coaches are not? -
Delistings/trades at end of the season
Dr. Mubutu replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
So again, why is Jeremy Howe worth more? -
Why remove the discretion? How many times a game do you see a player blatantly dispose of a ball into space, hoping for the boundary? I wouldn't be surprised (apropos of nothing) if it removes 10-15 stoppages a game. 3-4 per quarter. It's a start, isn't it? And all with no rule change required!
-
IMO, this would be the easiest way to reduce stoppages with a simple rule enforcement. How many times, every game, do you see a player blatantly go searching for the line, only for it to be 'benefit of the doubt'? Heaven forbid, actually making the ball be out of play an unfavourable option!

Bulldogs pushing for top 4! Where do we stand?
Dr. Mubutu replied to Earl Hood's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree somewhat, but he's not Robinson Crusoe in this team. People are lauding Grimes for his game on the weekend, but his disposals have shown no signs of improving. I'd prefer Cross to have the ball any day of the week. He puts in defensively as well, which is more than can be said of most of the 22. -
Perhaps I misspoke. Jamar can stand around and be tall better than Dawes can. You're right, though, Fitzy would be even better. Dawes - 193cm Jamar - 198cm Fitzpatrick - 200cm

Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...
Dr. Mubutu replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Do you accept the criticism of Neeld as a coach? Many of these excuses (yes, let's call them what they are) could be applied to his tenure, and he was sacked by this stage. Roos is not coaching Sydney, he's coaching the Melbourne Football Club. What he did in Sydney 10 years ago is completely irrelevant. There are question marks over what he's doing here, as well there should be. If he was so infallible as coach, there should be no reason we're not playing finals this year. To blindly accept what Roos is doing, without the results to back it up, is fraught with danger. If the rest of the year is as putrid as the weekend was, I would fully back an investigation into the football department, and just what the hell they are doing. -
In: Jamar, Neal-Bullen, Toumpas Out: Dawes, Lumumba, Stretch B: Garland Dunn Jetta HB: Watts McDonald Cross C: Tyson Michie Vince HF: Brayshaw Hogan Neal-Bullen F: Garlett Jamar Howe Foll: Gawn Viney Jones I/C: vandenBerg, Grimes, Toumpas Sub: Harmes I was almost tempted to put Dawes in there, but we need to send a message. Jamar can stand around and be tall just as well as he can.
