  1. Why remove the discretion? How many times a game do you see a player blatantly dispose of a ball into space, hoping for the boundary? I wouldn't be surprised (apropos of nothing) if it removes 10-15 stoppages a game. 3-4 per quarter. It's a start, isn't it? And all with no rule change required!
  2. IMO, this would be the easiest way to reduce stoppages with a simple rule enforcement. How many times, every game, do you see a player blatantly go searching for the line, only for it to be 'benefit of the doubt'? Heaven forbid, actually making the ball be out of play an unfavourable option!
  3. I agree somewhat, but he's not Robinson Crusoe in this team. People are lauding Grimes for his game on the weekend, but his disposals have shown no signs of improving. I'd prefer Cross to have the ball any day of the week. He puts in defensively as well, which is more than can be said of most of the 22.
  4. Perhaps I misspoke. Jamar can stand around and be tall better than Dawes can. You're right, though, Fitzy would be even better. Dawes - 193cm Jamar - 198cm Fitzpatrick - 200cm
  5. Do you accept the criticism of Neeld as a coach? Many of these excuses (yes, let's call them what they are) could be applied to his tenure, and he was sacked by this stage. Roos is not coaching Sydney, he's coaching the Melbourne Football Club. What he did in Sydney 10 years ago is completely irrelevant. There are question marks over what he's doing here, as well there should be. If he was so infallible as coach, there should be no reason we're not playing finals this year. To blindly accept what Roos is doing, without the results to back it up, is fraught with danger. If the rest of the year is as putrid as the weekend was, I would fully back an investigation into the football department, and just what the hell they are doing.
  6. In: Jamar, Neal-Bullen, Toumpas Out: Dawes, Lumumba, Stretch B: Garland Dunn Jetta HB: Watts McDonald Cross C: Tyson Michie Vince HF: Brayshaw Hogan Neal-Bullen F: Garlett Jamar Howe Foll: Gawn Viney Jones I/C: vandenBerg, Grimes, Toumpas Sub: Harmes I was almost tempted to put Dawes in there, but we need to send a message. Jamar can stand around and be tall just as well as he can.
  7. If any other club's recruiter does that deal, they should be fired immediately (especially considering Academy, F/S and zone selections, pick ~6 will likely be pick ~10). I, however, will be over the moon.
  8. If we didn't pick up Daniel Cross, we'd be pummeled by 10+ goals every week.
  9. Hogan, Dawes and McDonald in the same forward line will give me nightmares for weeks to come.
  10. This, I think, is the most important part. Why do we persist on Howe in the backline, where he's not a defender's bootlace, when he is obviously best used up forward? This was even referenced by Roos after the Geelong game (and yes, I too think it was lip service). If anyone can provide some sort of insight as to why we keep him in the back half of the field, and not in the forward 50 as an attacking weapon, I'd welcome any explanation. As to what the coaching staff was thinking not playing McDonald on Reiwoldt on Sunday, the less said the better.
  11. Worst part was that we had one in the first minute.
  12. Finally, the tough love: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-06-01/paul-roos-flags-delistings-at-melbourne-after-port-disappointment
  13. Remember the game in late 2012 where our centre bounce 4 were Spencer, Bail, McKenzie and Nicholson? Those were the days.
  14. This loss was definitely more deflating than that one, but I feel nowhere near as bad afterwards. (That perhaps shows how low we'd ebbed). IIRC, that was on Easter Sunday 2013. I was still baying for blood by the Thursday. Given their trajectory since then, the result shouldn't be surprising, but it still smarts. Start of the worst 3-week run I've experienced as a supporter. (Yes, that includes 186.)
  15. No excuses, just over the sommelier club on here extolling the (perceived) virtues of a player not with Melbourne.
  16. What claptrap. Viney has shown more leadership than Wines, even if only through necessity. I, for one, am sick of the self-flagellation over us not drafting Wines. He's come on, being able to be the 4th-6th best midfielder in his team, and having better players around, so when he doesn't perform, it's nowhere near as obvious. He was drafted to Port, we had our chance but pulled the trigger on Toumpas (which IIRC had all and sundry over the moon on here at the time), but to say he is a better leader than Viney on exposed form? Come on, WYL. That goes beyond revisionism.
  17. One would hope it would be the other way around.
  18. Jeez, that says something, considering it's basically taken word-for-word from BigFooty.
  19. Wouldn't it be nice to support a team that doesn't roll over and die when things start to go a bit against them? Sometimes I wonder why I continue to follow this club. Oh wait, maybe it's because the members don't roll over and die when things start to go a bit against them. Maybe the players should take note......
  20. Melbourne Football Club: Novel, unique, shlthouse.
  21. No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Should be dropped to the development league until he learns to give a [censored].
  22. As you said, he wasn't our worst today (unfortunately). How about a certain player who was apparently worth pick 7 last year?
